I suppose it depends on how many bars......some of the girls here have notice that when they eat the bars, they tend to slow down their weight loss.

Ive been doing atkins for about 3 weeks, and have limited myself to 2 so far. They taste too good!

Welcome to 3FC!!

Hello Wishing,
I just had to give them up, it's been 5 days for me without the bars. Oh, they are too good. I was eating only one sometimes, which led to once a day and then a few times a day. For some people, they do seem to cause a stall.

What shakes are you using? I drink an Atkins shake for breakfast several times a week. What plan are you following? I'm assuming Atkins. You may need to forget the shakes/bars and switch to low carb food only, or mix it up with meals and shakes. The best is always eating food that is as close to nature as possible.

Everyone loses weight at different rates. If you have been yoyo dieting a lot, your body will take awhile before it has healed and is ready to move on.

Good luck, Nikki

how many carbs vs protein are in the bars and shakes? lots of folks in my support group use the bars [i think they're gross and disgusting], but they don't use them instead of a meal. rather, they tend to cut them into small pieces and use them as a snack, or quick, convenient protein boost.

how many grams of protein are you actually getting in?

My protein bars are 31 grams of protein to a bar and about14 carbs. I'm not going totally atkins. I'm actually using the Zone which allows me three carb servings a day. I'm kinda scared to go entirely Atkins. I used to when I was younger but lately I've just been lo carbing. I use a shake from Sundown that has about 24 grams of protein to 6 grams of sugar. I just don't know what to do!

Many people have said that the bars and shakes slow their weightloss. You are much better off to use real food. Check out our recipe section for ideas.

Why are you afraid of Atkins? I'd be more afraid of the exotic ingredients in some of the protein bars. If you can't pronounce it, why eat it?

There are lots of Chicks in here on lower carb plans. Post a day's menu and folks will comment. Maybe they we spot something.

Hang in there. It's only been a week and your body may be reacting yo-yo dieting.

I'm not familiar with the shakes your using, but if they add real sugar or any form of sugar, then you should get rid of them. Atkins shakes are sweetened with splenda which is why I don't mind them.

I'm not sure what your afraid of with Atkins. I think if you want to really be successful, you need to pick a plan and stick to only one for at least a month. Don't vary it.

Miss Ruth, I found a bar that is really good, which is why I quit eating it. It was really like candy.

You know, I was wondering that myself. There are some mornings when I grab a peanut butter atkins bar (you know they have reformulated it and it tastes SOOOOO much better) and then if I am busy I will have another flavor for lunch. Or something like that but if I have a lot during the week, my weightloss really slows down. I like the idea of cutting them up in small pieces and eating them for snacks I may try that. But I think I need to stop eating them for a while and see if there is a quicker weight loss... they are so fast and easy to grab.

June,
Your just like me. It is just too easy to eat one of them. I was eating the Carbolite bars, the toffee ones are just too good. I think the biggest problem is that they were beginning to replace real food. Instead of taking the time to cut up a veggie or make a deviled egg, I was back in the habit of eating quick highly processed food. It's ok for a once a week or so treat, but not all the time. Bad habits are hard to break, especially if you don't even realize what your doing, like me. Being aware of what I'm putting in my mouth is one of my biggest problems. I've spent years out of touch with how my body feels, like if I am really hungry or if I'm full. It is something I have to think about everytime I want to eat or when I am eating.

I have found a bar called 3Carb by a company called BIOX (I think). It says only 3 of the carbs in the bar are "useable" but I don't trust that. I never eat an entire bar. What works the best for me is to use it in a low carb dessert. For example, today I made a diet strawberry gelatin and when it was party set I folded it gently into some whipped cream. This was divided up into 6 individual bowls and topped with some chopped nuts and some little pieces of the low carb bar....the one I used today was chocolate mint. I really don't care for the flavor of most of the bars so I rarely use them.

I know that is one of my biggest problems, just eating it because it is handy instead of taking the time to prepare things. But of course this has been my whole life. It is sooooo much easier to eat a cheese and mayo tomato sandwich instead of cooking, it is easier to grab cookies or junk food instead of something healthy. Okay, right now I am going to go into the kitchen and boil some eggs and have some deviled eggs ready and I am going to chop up some celery and get all my low carb supplies ready so I won't be so lazy the next few days...

Linda, that's a good idea and I'll use it to use up those bars I have leftover. But not for awhile, got to get my head in a better place first.

June, good for you. I chopped some celery about an hour ago. I boiled some eggs this afternoon. One more thing I like is to cook up some bacon and keep it in a bag for just a quick little something that is salty. It's good for sprinkling on top of salads and if it's already cooked, it's not a big production to make one.
BTW, did you buy Suzanne Somers Contest Cookbook? There is a great recipe in there for Chicken Breast Salad. It is just wonderful.

I am suspicious of the bars. I like them waaaaay too much. Once I ate two in a sitting! I can't have them around, because I eat them. And I don't really trust the carb counts on them, even the Atkins ones. I think my body just reacts like they are real sugar.

Also, when I eat a lot of them (like one per day) I find my weight loss does slow down. So that's my .02 on the bars. They are good in a pinch though.

Default Nikki

I have a couple of her books and her desert cookbook. She does have some great recipes but sometimes they take forever to make. Lots of ingredients and time. But most of them are worth it. I boiled my eggs too and did my celery too so I am well equipped today for some lowcarb eating. That way I can stay out of the bagles and cream cheese someone brought in...

I also bought some low carb bread at the store. They were small slices but had only 2.5 grams of carbs per slice. So that was really nice. Didn't taste the greatest but it is nice when I am craving a sandwich. Unfortunately it molded very quickly so I should have frozen it, but at least I know it's there (oh and it was a little pricey $5.00 for a loaf) whew. But I thought how many times have I gone to a fastfood place and shelled out $10 or more at a time...

Here's to a GREAT low carb day without protein bars!!!

hmmmm.....I seem to remember that these bars have an ingredient in them that actually makes the carb count higher than what is advertised. I think, if I remember correctly that the ingredient is glycerine.

Yes, they are good in a pinch, but if your losing starts slowing down or stopping, save them for an emergency!
