Default Need Help

Morning everyone!
You all have been such a great source of encouragement and information and I want to thankyou for that.

Here is something I need help with and Im hoping someone out there has experienced the same thing and can help.

I have been on Atkins for a little over a week, and have lost 11lbs so far (77 more to go) now.....ive always had excema and always had a problem with itchy skin....BUT.....since starting atkins (about 3 days into it) my skin has exploded and I have itchy spots in the strangest places. It seems to be all in the folds or a place where sweat might form and stay ie, under breasts, creases under arms, belly creases, elbows and knees.

I read in one of the posts that this may be caused by excess insulin leaving my body, causing itch. Well, geez, Ive got alot leaving my body!

Do any of you ladies have any idea how to fix this? Before I dont have any skin left? I cant take zinc supplements...they cause severe cramping. I have all the creams from the doc and the drug store, but when its itchy, there isnt a cream on earth that can stop it.

Hi Robin,

My daughter has excema and everything I tried for this poor kid didn't work (creams & lotions).

I did bring her to the Dr. and he prescribed a steroid cream which I used on her during the winter/cold months, it did help. But then I found Cetaphil soap and lotion which by itself seemed to do wonders for her. What you bath in really makes a big difference. Using dove soap only made her worse, even the unsented sensitive kind. Now that the colder air is upon us your outbreak might be contributed to that and maybe not so much the diet ???

Try the Cetaphil soap, it is more expensive but it does work, and apply the lotion a few times a day (I use it on my daughter morning and night).

Hope this helps

Love, Leenie

I use calendula cream which I get at the Health Food store for my eczema. It seems to work better than the corti-steroid prescription!

Another thought - try an OTC anti-histamine specifically for itching. I take chlor-tripolon when I need it.

It sounds like maybe you are detoxing. Also, you have lost quite a bit of weight in a short time which might mean you are extra sensitive to carbs. Certain fishes have anti inflammatory properties (esp. salmon) so you might want to increase your consumption of those -- also certain fish oils and borage seed oil and evening primrose and flax oil are natural anti-inflammatories as well so you might consider supplementing with them. Don't scratch!!! Topically, you might try tea tree oil. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Thats what I thought too Tilly. I've tried all the creams, steroid and non. The only thing I have found that is helping is to shower when the itch gets out of hand, and recream myself.

Since everything is coming out, and obviously thru my skin, its sitting there, and irritating my skin.

Thankyou Leens, I'll give that soap a try, right now im using Dove for sensitive skin.

Ruth, thankyou, I will look into that. I find the steroid cream works for about 1/2 the jar, then it quits....or I've gotten used to it.

THankyou Ladies for your help.......please if anyone else has experienced this, let me know. Id love to hear what you did and how long it lasted.

Robin

nope, no cheese either........Ive been trying to cut out anything that helps yeast grow. A few years back I detoxed myself of excessive yeast in my system and need to do it again. I didnt have these problems back then.....anyway, no dairy, no vinegar, no molds. So it really limits my food on low carb, but im managing.

Hey,
If you have a problem with yeast it might be a fungal issue. To treat it internally, chop up one garlic clove and swallow the pieces (like you would pills), no chewing, with water 2x per day (a total of 2 cloves of garlic a day). Use parsley afterwords and don't worry about your breath smelling. I don't know if garlic has carbs??? But this should take care of any fungal association with the rash.

You might also want to use some of that cream that you use when you have a yeast infection (minoxidil?) topically on the rashes and see if that helps. Cornstarch powder to keep the area dry might help.

If you are detoxing and this is causing the problem is should abate within two weeks. If it gets really bad your doctor can give you an antifungal pill (forgot the name), but that can be hard on the liver so only take something internal as a last resort. The garlic works really well.

Please keep us posted!

I'll float away Sue!! lol But your right, water will help it all flush out.
Tilly, Ive tried all the meds out there a few years ago, and took Diflucan the pill for yeast. I dont know about the garlic, I think I'll wait til after the weekend.....I have the GRand Opening of my store tomorrow. But if the water doesnt work, I will try anything
