Do any of you ladies know anybody who has had liposuction done? I'm giving myself one more year of exercise and diet, and am considering this as a 50th B-Day present to myself at that time.
I've recently been doing alot of research on this and I would like to hear how others have done post-op with this procedure. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
Hmmmm... I had a friend who had liposuction for her thighs about 7 yrs ago..... never could figure out why, she only weighed about 100 lbs!!!......... anyhow, she said she had to wear an extremely tight "girdle" for about (I think) 6 or 8 weeks after and that the whole "ordeal" (her words) was very painful. HOWEVER, I don't know how much weight I would give her words, after all, anyone who weighs about 100 lbs and has lipo for "saddlebag thighs" is, imho, not working with the same vocabulary as mine!! For whatever it's worth, that's all I know about it........ I hope you find better wisdom from someone around here who is tons smarter than me (most are!! )
I don't think it matters to women weather they are 100 lbs or 300 lbs..... Speaking for some and not all, it seems as though we all have a bad self body image and we all want to be "perfect" what ever that may be (I'm guilty thats for sure). Unfortunately society says if your not a twig your not beautiful. Its sad that we can't love the person on the outside as much as we love the person on the inside, or is it that we don't love our innerself so we can't love our outterself ?
Who know's...... All I know is who ever created this "being skinny is being perfect and acceptable" should be shot
Love, Leenie
Sil, if Lipo makes you happy, then go for it... Huggs !
As you may or may not know, I'm scheduled to have cosmetic surgery next Tuesday, Oct. 22nd.
Altho I've not personally had the surgery yet I know of so many women who have. Everything from nose alterations, chin lifts, liposuction, tummy tucks, breast reductions &/or implants &/or lifts, etc..
I'm not sure what specific questions you may have but I can offer what I've learned....I've been preparing and went for my pre-op visit this week to offering what my SIL and dear friend Bonnie (who's had six procedures) has helped me with.
LOL ~ BTW-those "girdles"! I received mine today. I was fitted for the proper "girdles" at my last visit. sams-I thought they were to fit extremely tight, too. They're to fit "firmly". It's vital that air is allowed through for heeling purposes. So, only one XL and the others are smaller as the swelling decreases. Also with the lipo suction it helps the sculpting. If I'm remembering correctly (and depending on your procedure) you're to wear them 20 hours a day for the first 3 weeks )for tummy tuck. With liposuction for 23 hours daily for 3 weeks and then 10 hours a day for one week.
I have a folder full of into! You let me know what you're looking for and I'll to help. Also, someone shared a terrific site with me that offered great info. I'll have to pull it back up tho.

Oh, something to think about when selecting a surgeon. There are different methods of lipo. I'm not good at repeating all the technical terms (maybe someone else here can jump in!). The surgeon I selected uses a procedure that removes fat cells. Once the fat cells are removed they will not come back in that area. I hope I'm repeating this correctly - other surgeons use a procedure which removes and redistributes fatty cells which increases the chance of "new" fat in those areas. The procedure I'm having - even if I lose additional weight after surgery there will be no sagging. My friend Bonnie had her completele "overhaul" about 2.5 years ago - tho she's gone back for other procedures (and eats chocolate like drinking water!) her original areas look like something I might've had when I was 16!
Don't get me wrong. I am not looking to be perfect or thinking that this is an excuse not to exercise or eat right. But I want to look the best that I can with what I have to use. Isn't that why most of us are trying to lose weight. You can still be happy with yourself and still strive to look your best.
I also have an issue with my saddlebag and thigh area. Even when I weight my lowest, it is stiil out of perportion. This has always made it difficult to find pants that fit. if they fit my hip/thighs then they are too big in the waist. I usually have to make darts at the waist. I also would like some of those fat cells to be gone for good,so that i don't have to starve myself in an effort to get rid of the hips. i don't know if this makes any sense to anybody, but at 50 I feel that I've earned the right to a little extra help in this matter. I hope that I did not offend anybody but I am just trying to be honest here.
I want liposuction too. And a tummy tuck, and a breast reduction. The thighs aren't so bad, pretty firm considering how fat I am. I want lipo on the upper arms, I have a "second bye-bye" as my sister calls it. As I lose weight it just gets saggier. UGH! I would actually be a surgeon's dream, I'd just give him my checkbook and tell him to do whatever he deemed necessary!! Unfortunately, it ain't happening! So, maybe if I start saving now, I can fix all this loose skin by the time I make goal!
Sil, I don' t know much about Lipo, but I did have a tummy tuck a few years ago. I lost about 50 pounds after having Cody and I apparently didn't spring back in the least. I had a bad apron and the cosmetic surgeon sliced off about 5 pounds of loose skin, including my appendectomy scar. I will have bad scars for the rest of my life from this, but it was worth it to me. I think if you are this seriously considering it, then that may be your answer!
Yep, it hurt, but that is what the pharmacy is here for! I didn't wear a girdle, but I did have to wear a wrap around stomach band that was covered in velcro. I could only remove it for showers and I wore it for a month. I also had more than 300 stiches (had a hysterectomy same time) so that might be why so strict!
I agree with you, be the best you can be and if it makes you happy, go for it, life is to short not to be happy. I would love to be brave enuf to have that done, but they would have to do some serious work, I mean my whole body sags. I think the first thing I would do is to get perky ones ( o )( o ) I hate having droopy dogs UU
Thanks for all of your thoughts, ladies. I'm open to any pros and cons on the subject.
I am saving my money now and will wait until my 50th B-day (Feb. 2004) to do this. that gives me over a year to research it and think. The surgeon that I am interested in, credits the initial consult fee towards the surgery if it's done within 6 months of the visit. So I will wait until later next year to actively meet with a few surgeons , and then make a final decision.
Hello 2bfit1. Had my consult and was a little discouraged. I went in for lipo consult. I don't consider myself a big girl at 5'5 and 168. The doctor told me tummy tuck would be my only option because lipo. would leave me with to much loose skin. And he said his fee is good for 1 year and not 6 months. The price was 5900.(his fee 4500, and surgery room with iv and drugs and nurses) It would be a few hours procedure and I would need 3 weeks off work. He said it would take a few weeks to stand straight up. I'm still thinking about it and have plenty of time to decide. The consult was only 45$ Hope this helps. Tamra
I had liposuction TWICE. Tummy, inner thighs, outter thighs, butt. Once when I was 25 and the second time last year @ 34. I was very happy both times. There was a 7 year gap and felt that I needed more done, so I did.
Its not a pleasant surgery BUT the rewards are worth it.
My mom had a tummy tuck and a breast reduction after she lost 120 pounds a few years ago and she would LOVE more surgery especially on her legs.
Plastic surgery IS not for everyone, but there is nothing wrong with having something done if it will make you happy.
When (not if but WHEN) I get down to a reasonable weight (anything under 200 would thrill me right now), I'd love to have a tummy tuck. I dont care if I still have bulgy thighs and a saggy butt. I don't even care if my widdle puppies just shrivel up to nothing. I just want to get rid of this humongous apron of flesh hanging down the front of me. It's horrible and ugly and the more weight I lose, the more it flops around. Disgusting! I have seen the tv programs about liposuction and was horrified. They are so rough! I can't remember what channel it's on but there's this commercial for one of the medical shows and there's this doctor ramming this hose into someone's belly and singing "I've got you under my skin". How macabre!
