  • Good morning everyone.
Jayaredee, no matter what you are going to say, it will never be accepted by the RS people. If you really believe in what your doing, like they seem to, you just can't believe anything else. It's almost like talking religion or politics. I know there are transfats that are bad for you, but like Aleka says, we just don't eat them, so they are not a concern for us. We eat good fat.
Anne-what book was that that Peter N is in? I found a recent picture of him on the internet at his HS prom I think. He just looks like a regular kid.
Aleka, I've read it takes awhile sometimes for your body to adjust to the woe. And some people have said that the 2nd time around, your body has already learned the tricks of low carb eating, so it may even take a little longer.
I have found that there are hidden sugars in everything. You have to look at all the label, even in vanilla extract for heavens sake. Durkee doesn't have any sugar in it. On one of the threads on SS website, there is a list of national brand names that are legal for ss. I've found it helpful.
I went to the store to pick up a "few" things last night. Like usual I bought more than I intended. It took a lot longer, because I was reading everything. I will feel more confident when I can just go into a store and know which is legal and which is not. I wanted to buy lemon pepper, there is sugar in all of the brands. I guess I'll just have to make my own.
I need to go exercise and get strarted on my day, have a wonderful day everyone!
    Nikki
  • I know i made a mistake about trans fats(stupid me) but mrs jim and that other person were trying to corner me so i had to argue with them as opposed to agreeing with them so i just dont bother writing back. Thanks Anne for backing me up in the RS forum, what a pain!

But seriously the food mover has way too many starches I was only benifiting them for their own good. The only weight i lost on that program was water and you couldnt even notice a decrease in my size be just looking at me. I only like richards exercise only because exercise is good for you and sometimes those videos seem so corny.

Talk to you all later i have to have a one on one conference with mrs jim.
  • Hi Everyone!
Another steamy one here in Toronto. Nikkic the book where
I am seeing the young man who lost 125 pounds is called
Eat, Cheat and melt The Fat Away.page 71. The name
is different in the book but I am thinking it must be him.

I had two delicious beef patties with cheddar cheese melted
on top and a side of broccoli and green beans.

We are becoming expert label readers around my house too.
Even the sour cream had modified corn starch in it!!

I'll have to be sure to to bring my reading glasses when I go
    shopping this Saturday.

Aleka you are right about the diabetes. When I was on Susan
Powters program I was getting this awful pain in the gut.
I was loading myself on carbs, pretzels, potatoes, and all that
stuff!!!Why I was just reading in the paper today there is a
30 per cent increase in diabetes. I am hoping I am doing
a little preventitive medicine following Suzanne's program I am
worried because I am 45 and significantly overweight which
    puts me at risk,
    Anne.
  • Jayaredee,
It's like I said before, when your talking to people about diets, it is almost as controversial as talking about religion or politics. You weren't stupid, you just got caught up in the moment.
I usually don't look around on the forums here anymore. I spend a lot of time at other websites and then check in to talk to you guys too.
I hope your days are going well and that you are all feeling good. Later, Nikki
  • Hello everyone

You are right about the WOE discussions niccic! I did ww for a year and people were whenever I mentioned it but that program worked well for me, I lost 25 lbs! A friend recommended SS books to me and I thought it sounded good and I was tired of counting points. I don't even talk about SSing with anyone as I have just gotten attitude whenever I mention it. I love SS as I find I am eating a healthy balanced diet with fresh food and yummy recipes.

Through SS and WW I have cut out junk food and don't even crave it anymore (I was a chip and dip girl )
Once you get use to preparing delicious healthy meals you never want to go back to prefab or takeout as it tastes so much better.

I have a great trick I use for grocery shopping. The first few grocery trips into my Woe I wrote down all the name brands of the "legal" food I bought then I typed up a master grocery list and saved it in the computer. When grocery day comes I just copy the list onto another page and take off things I don't need that week or add any special extras and print it off and take it with me. The master list stays the same for the next time.

I also have the list organized by the layout of the store and geared toward the fresh food sections, which may sound crazy but I breeze through the store getting everything I need and I don't get distracted by things I am not supposed to buy. I also smile and keep on pushing my cart past those free sample carts to avoid inadvertent snacking. I save time, money and calories
  • Good Grief! I just checked out the RS thread-were you girls trying to start World War III up there?

Hey, everyone has a plan that works for them. We like SS and are happy with it so Yay for us and power to everyone else whose personal WOEs work for them.

I personally feel better since I started low carbing and cutting out sugar, but hey, again, that is what is working for me.
  • Hi everyone,
It seems I spend a lot of time on the puter anymore. I have to go pick up my daughter at 10pm from work every night, she doesn't have a car. So I am forever on taxi service, even though she has her own place.
Anyway, when I get home I can't sleep for awhile, so I look at a few places I post on.
Mauvaisroux (what does your name mean?), do you know of any legal ham to buy? I have a list of legal stuff too, but I'm just not finding any ham.
Anne, if you can get Daisy brand of sour cream it is legal. It even looks like it's better than the other brands of sour cream. I find it at Walmart.
I got the condiment package today from Suzanne. It has the ketchup, bbq sauce, secret sauce, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. I had the ketchup and secret sauce for supper with burgers. They are both very good. I'm a big Heinz 57 fan and the ketchup is not exactly like that, but it's very good and I like it just as much. I have a lot of recipes for ketchup from the ss site, but I ordered this package when I started ss so I wouldn't have to spend days in the kitchen cooking and preparing stuff.
I will probably make my own next time, due to the expense. But if you want to buy it, it is good.
Jayaredee, are you ok? I was just wondering, you seemed so upset before. I feel the same as Mauvaisroux, I just quit trying to talk about this woe most of the time. You should hear my youngest daughter, she doesn't say anything too bad, but the tone of her voice is very disapproving. I guess I'll just have to prove it to her by example. This whole low fat, high carb deal is wrong, but propaganda has been instilled in everyone since birth. It is an automatic response that people give when asked what is healthy eating, most people say low fat. I am an RN and when I worked in the hospital, we were instructed to teach diabetics to eat low fat and to limit sugar intake to a certain amount prescribed by the Dr. But they still combined starches with proteins and fats and they were allowed to eat all of the stuff we avoid. There was no way I could have told anyone about this woe without being taken to the office, instructed about my deficiencies and sent to education for retraining.
Oh well, got to get on with being happy for us that we have found this woe.
    Take care, Nikki
  • Good morning everyone,
It's still so hot and muggy here, the weather people say we should see come relief by Mon. Actually, this weather has been good, as I haven't drunk so much water in my life!

JAYAREDEE, how did your one on one go yesterday? I hope you are doing alright. I also don't talk about this WOE. One day I was eating some of my "legal" foods when a GF said it's a good thing I didn't cook for her because I'd kill her with the higher fat stuff. This, coming from a person who lives on potato chips, ice cream & Reese's P'nut Butter Cups, plus any and all junk food that is available. I was explaining this WOE to my cousin, who is a nurse, and also a lifetime member of WW, this WOE. One night at dinner she was noting what I was eating, and said that this WOE seemed healthy enough. I just remembered, sometime, last year, I believe, RS & SS were on Larry King Live explaining their eating plans. I wish I had known about it to watch, but from what I've heard it was something!

nikkic, I honestly think moderation in anything is the key. Are the condiments worth the price? I bought her salad dressings on HSN, but I haven't thought to make any yet. She does have salad dressing recipes in her book. I see that sometime, I don't know when, she is coming out with a bread machine and bread mixes. I am really tempted to buy them if they aren't too expensive. I bought some marble-rye bread for myself the other day, it has no sugar, but noticed it has the hydrogenated oils in it!!! Do you find that Daisy brand sour cream in a Super Walmart? What do you get for legal cream cheese? I've noticed that the Philadelphia brand has milk in it. There is a Super-Walmart being built near to where I live, which should be opening, hopefully in a few months. What other "legal" brands do you find there?

mauvaisroux, whenever I grocery shop, I just do the outside perimiter where all the fresh foods are, I have one or two aisles (if I don't need laundry detergent, etc.) that I go down. It doesn't take me that long to shop that way either. I stand in line at the cash register longer than it takes me to shop I am an Irish gal, and loved my potatos. I thought I could never give them up, but I could care less if I ever had one again, especially since I read in some low carb book that you might as well take pure sugar and put it in the potato skin.

ANNE D, I too am afraid of diabetes. My late father got Type 2 diabetes when he hit his 80's. High cholesterol, tryglicerides, blood pressure, etc. runs on my mother's side. I have high chol. & tryg. which I'm on medication for. Eating a low fat/high carb. diet, which was the way I was told to eat, I could never get my numbers down, and I'm sure my Dr. didn't believe me when I told her how I was eating. Then I saw SS on HSN and got her book. I started SSzing, and my next blood work, my numbers were down considerably. I told my Dr. what I was doing, and she told me to continue doing what I was doing. She never told me that how I was eating was unhealthy. I just had more blood work done earlier in the week for Chol., tryglicerides, and glucose. Hopefully the numbers will be ok again.

Everyone enjoy your day, and to those of us who are swealtering, stay
  • Hi Everyone!!
Thank God it is Friday How is everyone doing.
As you know tomorrow is my weigh in day. I am not expecting miracles as I had such a good loss last. week. I am happy to know I am feeling alot better!!! My weight loss pattern
is I lose in chunks. I may lose every third or fourth week but I
will lose 5 pounds. This is the way it went for me when I lost
100 pounds at weight watchers 8 years ago. I am thankful I
have been able to keep 54 of those hundred pounds off!!
Aleka that is so great about your blood work results That
just proves what Suzanne's books are saying is true. I am
not telling too many people at all that I am following a high
protein and high fat diet because I don't want the lectures
Jayaredee, I had to laugh reading your posts to Mrs. Jim I
hope she does not get angry with you You are
only saying what you beleive to be true but we all know
everyone has their own beliefs when it comes to dieting
Nikkic pointed that out so well in her posts. Talk to you
    all soon!!
  • HI everyone,
Aleka, from what I understand about cheese, cream cheese and the process of making cheese, all of the carbs are separated in the process of making it so what is left is a pro/fat product, even if it does have milk listed on the ingredients. There is only a trace amount of carbs left and Suzanne says in the faq that it's ok when she was talking about cheese. I looked on the back of the Philly cream cheese box and it says Carbs 1 g/ 0% of daily requirements, so I'm taking it that to mean a really small amount. I found a thread on the ss site that has a bunch of legal brand name foods listed and Philly was ok. This has been looked over by lots of other sser's so I'm sure it really is ok to use this. I even found in the faq's someone asking about shredded cheese with potato starch in it and she said it was such a small amount, it probably won't hurt, but it would just be healthier to shred your own cheese. In my opinion, it would be fresher too.
I just bought a food processor to help do stuff like this, I've never thought I'd needed one before. But with this woe, I spend so much more time in the kitchen cooking and washing up, I decided I have to find ways to decrease my kitchen time.
We have a super Walmart here, but it's the smallest one in the midwest, I think. That's where I get the Daisy sour cream. Some other brands that are legal - Knudsens, and in Canada-Island Farms, Avalon, Hewitts (Ottawa and Toronto) and Harmonie in Alberta.
I found a post over there on how to make your own sour cream. The woman that posted it says she has made sour cream this way for years. You have to start with store bought. You just need a starter like sour dough bread. Buy sour cream, take 1-2 tbsp. of it and put it in a clean container with a lid, add one cup of heavy cream (make sure it's cream, no milk added). Mix gently, cover and place in warm place for 24 hours. Then refrigerate til it gets cool. If it thickens up too much add a little cream. Once you make your first batch, that is what you use from now on for your starter. You don't have to buy it anymore. After reading that, I understood why they call it SOUR cream.
My husband and I had ribeye steaks and a wonderful cauliflower salad with bacon, mayo, parmesan cheese and onion in it for lunch. What a wonderful, satisfying way to eat.
    Later, Nikki
  • Hello everyone

Hope you all had a great weekend!

I went to Montreal for the day with my DH on Saturday, did some shopping and then ended up staying there for supper. It was nice doing something together alone for once without the usual pack of people around us. I love my friends and my family but sometimes you need some downtime especially as a couple.

I probably gained 2 or more pounds as I went for dim sum on Sunday and totally pigged out!
There is no such thing as low-carb chinese food

    Take care everone!
  • Good evening everyone,
I hope you all had a great weekend. The humidity finally broke Sun.

I got on the scale Fri., and I'm down 3 lb. I didn't have a good SS day today, so I probably put them back on!

I marinated some chicken in Suzanne's salad dressing, the Lemon Tarragon. It was really good. The next time I'm going to use the Chiptole salad dressing.

mauvaisroux, I'm glad you had such a good time with your DH. It is nice going out as a couple. Since we don't have children, and most of our family & friends live out of state, we do it quite often.

nikkic, I found the Daisy brand of sour cream at a NH super-Walmart, so I know that whenever the one opens near where I live I'll be able to find it. I also found some of their Bunny ice cream, fat free and sweetened with Splenda. Can't wait to try some!

ANNE D, hope you had a good weigh in.

JAYAREDEE, hope you had a good weekend.

Take care and enjoy your evening.
  • Hi everyone, glad the website is back up and running. We had a good weekend. Since DH works and I don't, I really don't do a lot of anything most of the time, it seems. He works as a Drug Rehab Councelor, and works 6 days a week.
We are going camping starting on Thursday. We're going to take the camper out to the campsite tomorrow night, it's only 15 min. away from home so not a big adventure. It is just nice to go camping. DH has about 10 days off and we wanted to go somewhere. It is a nice camping area, next to the lake and there are a lot of woods around it. The area is full of wild life too, so it's just really relaxing being there. I want to keep on ssing while I'm there, but I already have a planned cheat for Thursday. I know we'll be drinking that night, so I'm going to have diet 7-up and whiskey, rather than whiskey and coke. I know wine is suppose to be better, but I can't drink it without getting sick.
Hopefully, I won't gain too much from that. I don't really think I've lost anything, but tonight when I was on the abdoer doing the workout, I could feel my sides folding over like they haven't folded over in years. That made me almost fall off of the thing. I can tell my body is changing, so it won't be long before the weight starts to go too.
I made some spicey chicken wings for supper, coleslaw and celery sticks with homemade ranch dressing for dipping. It was all good, but I tried a different wing recipe than the usual and it was just not as good. Everyone on the ss website was bragging it up, but I thought it was not so good. Too much garlic, not enough heat.
Mauvaisroux, I think my one down fall is Chinese food. It is just so good. I'm not tempted now, but I know sometime, Kung Pao Shrimp is on my horizon.
Aleka, glad your weather is getting better, ours has been great, but now that we're going camping, it is suppose to rain for the next 4 days. At least we'll be close to home if it gets too wet out there.
Hi Anne and Jayaredee, I hope everything is going well with you both.
    Later, Nikki
  • Hi everyone!

nikkic-have fun on your mini-camping trip. Though you are not going far it sometimes just takes a change of scenery and a break from your usual routine to get you to unwind and recharge your batteries. Someone on another thread said that there weren't many carbs in whisky but they may have been kidding or just wishful thinking-I like Scotch too and treat myself once in a while. Hey I like hot food too! My husband collects hot sauces and even makes his own. He had two of his recipes published in the local paper here and is working on a cookbook (better be a low-carb one, heh, heh ) I love chinese food, Indian food, Thai food, Greek food, oh heck...I just enjoy food I don't like heat for the sake of heat though (suicide chicken wings just taste vinegary and burning) but a flavorful heat is great. Thanks for the info on the sour cream.

Aleka-Yay for you on your bloodwork results!
I don't have kids either but my parents live downstairs from DH and I and we have an assortment of friends that we have collected (kind of like stray cats) that practically camp out at our place guess it is our fault for having a cool apartment, a large assorment of "b" movies and DVDs and yummy healthy scooby-snacks for the gang. If we ever buy a house I am sure all the neighborhood kids would gravitate to our place whether we have kids or not

AnneD-hope you had a good weekend and your weigh-in went well! I don't tell people about SS either, they usually just or give you a lecture. Did you get your books yet?
I have Eat Great and Lose Weight, and I love it. I am considering getting her other books too, let me know how they are after you have finished reading them.

Jayaredee(hope I spelled that right!)- hope you had a good weekend too! How is your WOE going? You were right about some of the things you posted on the other thread. It is hard to deprogram yourself from the low-fat thinking mindset. I don't eat sourcream or cream that often but I have been following the line of eating fresh food and non-processed foods for some time now.
SS has just confirmed this for me. I hope this Woe works for all of us here and that we can report our success stories on the success thread!
  • Good morning everyone,
We're having showers so far this morning, don't know if we'll be putting our walk on hold or not. We do need the rain very badly.

mauvaisroux, DH & I LOVE hot food too!!! The hotter the better. We've had some that have actually brought tears to our eyes That's great your DH is working on a cookbook. How hot are his sauces on a scale of 1 - 10...(10 being the hottest)? I have a carb counter book, and whiskey, vodka, rum, scotch, etc. do not have any carbs in them. That's nice you have so many friends. We only see our friends occasionally as they all live in Mass. One of my friends has a cottage in the area where I live, and she stays the whole summer, her DH comes up on weekends and vacations. My GF &I do something about once a week. This week we're going out to lunch and to a summer play.

nikkic, have fun on your camping trip. It's fun to get away even if you don't go very far. DH & I have our own machine shop in our garage. He does the machining and I do the books, so I'm home a lot too. It's great in the winter that I don't have to go out too often. Have you gotten on the scale yet? I bet you have lost some weight. One drink I really like is, raspberry flavored vodka ( I didn't see any sugar listed) with diet Sprite. We've found Diet Rite Black Raspberry soda, and I've had that also with the raspberry vodka HMMMM, haven't had this in awhile...the weekend is coming!

Hi Jayaredee and Anne. Hope you both are having a good week so far.

    Have a great day everyone
