Hey Guys--looks like this exercise thread is starting to get lively!!!! I am so glad--I worried all day Mon. that I wasn't around to start-but hey I should have known you guys didn't need me to be responsible! I did a lot of walking and always used the stairs to our 3rd floor hotel room. Back to my Walk Away tapes today. I think I will start with 2 miles today and then get back to my 3 mile ones the rest of the week. My goal is to finish off the week with at least 3 walking days before Sunday. Glad we are getting so active--yeah us!!!
Hi all, I hope you don't mind if I jump in. I got up at my usual 4:15, took my 35 minute walk with DH. After he went to work I decided against Taebo and did Susan Powter workout instead. She's a LF fanatic, but her workout is good anyway. Tomorrow is my running day, I have shaved my time off by a couple of minutes. DH will be home so he can watch the grandkds while I do this. I'll also probably lift weights. Keep up the good work everyone. Judy
Ok this is bad, I haven't exercised in two days, and from the looks of the posts, I'm not alone! Yesterday (the 4th) I slept late FINALLY. This is my vacation week but I have had a doctor's appointment at the crack of dawn every day. I had a sore back (regular chiropractor was on vacation and the fill-in was a monster) so I layed down on Cody's bed in the afternoon and wound up taking a nice long nap. (I couldn't resist, he gave me his stuffed animal and covered me up) Then I had to go to the grocery store and get a few things for dinner because I had to eat NON FAT because of an abdominal ultrasound at 7AM this morning, and as soon as dinner was over it was time to go to fireworks. Today was ultrasound, labwork and TWO mechanics (goodbye payday) and then a family crisis and then company...so it looks like tomorrow is my day!
Wow, this looks like an awful lot of excuses. I look like a real sicko with a lemon for a car, too!
Hey kiddo, life happens. I hope your ultra sound turns out all right. You'll get back to exercising when you can. My last experience with a chiropractor is when he busted my rib, I haven't been back since. Just hang in there, and take care of yourself. Judy
Gosh Jennifer I would have not exercised for all that!! How is things going for your health?? I do pray that the ultrasond comes out good. And the back gets better. that alone is reason to NOT exercise. you do not need to push your back at all unless you are in good health. he last thing you need is to be in spasm that will put you out longer than just a day or two!!
Judy please jump in. I love having fellow weight lifters in this thread. I do not feel so funny!! I was just thinking of gettng some taebo tapes after i start making some income that is one thing that would be good for me and i can do them before work in the night. as the gym closes at 9!!
I am deciding if i am going today or not. maybe a long bike ride later. Ihave so much to do for packing. I have packed my stretchy bands so i can exercise when gone. but that is not the same as weights. and well i just am still to heavy to run as well as my sneakers being 1 year old and they reccommend changing them every 3 months. so I will have to make due with the bike and bands. I refuse to bring the weights whilecamping!!! that is way to much. (I did that last year and had to fight the kids for them and they smashed their fingers with them so that is out!! )
Jennifer -- I'm confused? why low-fat for the ultrasound? I am a sono tech (WOW! that is the first time I've ever said that!! - I just graduated!) and have never heard that.... we always tell patients to fast from midnight the night before, but never to eat low fat (or anything else, for that matter!) ..... in fact, if a patient has a cup of coffee we usually cannot do the exam! Good luck w/yours..... hope it turns out fine.
I'm sorry your substitute chiropracter is so bad..... I don't get to see mine too often - my long-term one is not in my insurance plan, so I can't go to her, and my "alternate" chiropracter (my brother-in-law!) lives too far for regular adjustments!
As for excercise: I bought the Leslie Sansone tapes (am waiting for them to arrive) - does that count???
I would think it was one for the gull bladder. I am a nurse but not in the field for about 10 years so i am confused too, maybe it has some radio isotopes used in the process. ia m asure they ment low fat the day before then nothing for 12 hours before??

as for me, it's amazing how much easier walking is after you take your asthma meds!! another mile this morning. this means that i've walked monday, tuesday, friday, saturday. yipppeeeee yahoooo!!

Yes jiff I am a bit off centered, but it is worse than a whole bunch fo boyscouts it is my crew i am camping with. atleast the bosycouts do not fight and kill eachother and listen to ME!!! my kids do all the above but they do not listen to me.
Hi everyone, did an hour and a half weed wacking, Hope that counts for something. i did't get my walk in Thursday and Friday, my grandchildren came and stayed with me those 2 days. I am going to walk today and tomorrow. I probably won't lift weights until tomorrow. Nasus40 speed walking, or just plain everyday regular walking for 30 to 45 minutes is beneficial. I started running because my son and oldest daughter told me I couldn't, they said I was too old to start.Well granted I'm 50, but if you tell me I can't, I promise will. Jenifer honey, my advice is to take it easy until your health gets better. The last thing you need is to land in the hospital. Judy
Thanks for the hugs and encouragement, everybody. It made me feel so much better that I got on the treadmill and walked for 45 minutes!
About the ultrasound, I don't know why they wanted fat free either. I had my gallbladder out almost 2 years ago. They viewed my pancreas, liver and spleen. I have aches around my liver/gallbladder area every now and then. It actually has been happening since before the gallbladder came out...I just thought it was phantom pains. I have had unexplained chest pains for months. I was put on Zantac daily, also from lots of acid reflux and when the pains persisted I went to the cardiologist and he gave me Prevacid since my past heart checks were normal, and referred me to a Gastro doc. The gastro doc took 6 weeks to see, but they have doubled my prevacid and scheduled me for ultrasounds and an upper gi scope on Aug 19th. The pain finally over the last 2 days has lessened. The main pain is right in the center of my chest and it comes and goes and feels like gas. I haven't had diet coke for two days either, so I wonder if that is the connection. The guess so far is esophagitis or an ulcer or something related. One thing I do know, is if I didn't have to wait so dang long between doctors I would be all better by now!
By the way, I kicked my heels for almost a year because I didn't want to do low carb, and when I had to eat ff the other day, I spent almost an hour reading recipes trying to figure out WHAT i could eat! Afterward, I spent almost that long in the grocery store trying to find food. It was amazing how much my feelings have changed about my way of eating.
Jennifer how long have you been low carbing?? I will say that before Pp i had been eating Tums like candy and not it is a rare occasion that i have had anything. What you are saying does concern me though. if it is gastric reflux the decrease of the carbs (Insulin) will decrease the gastric juices causing less reflux. I am wondering if you do not have a hiatial hernia, does it hurt worse if sitting or scrunched over? or even a deep breath? if so then it is most likely a hiatial hernia. but if that it should go away at times too unless your stomach has pushed up high in to the hiatial space. (diaphram. ) if this sounds like it then try leaning bacwards to help get the stomach back in the right spot. standing up and leaning back like you are looking up at the light with a stiff neck. sit with a very stiff back like you have seen people with back surgery for a while to see if that helps to relieve the pain. the other thing is to try to eat low carb but also watch the fat content. check your foods on www.fitday.com that will help judge your fat contentso for now stay away from the cheese (I am sorry) and eat leaner cuts of meat. limit your eggs for just a few a day. use some more shakes and p bars. that will help. I will try very hard tog et some of the recipies poster here for you so i do not have to worry about you when i am gone!! Boy what a mother hen i am!!!
last thing is to eat frequent small meals. that should help the stoamch a lot!!
Aww Sue, you're so sweet! Don't worry about getting the recipes, I can await your return! I have been doing various low carb things for several months I guess...recently found out that my own little concoction wasn't helping at all because I was mixing 'the best' of all the diets together! I guess I can have the fats from Atkins or the whole wheat bread from SB, but big fat cheese sandwiches don't work!
I am not sure how the pain is worse. It does usually come at night. If I get it tonite then I will try and pay attention. It usually feels better if I can burp. I am the MASTER at that in my house! No, I'm not too delicate and graceful to my poor husband and son. They get a kick out of it, I mostly do it to amaze them. You know, do something sweet and ladylike and then belt out a big one. Hehe. Anyway, it hurts through to my back usually when this happens. Lots of times it spreads out one direction or the other. Sounds cardiac, but I had a good EKG and a great treadmill result. Been doing good for 2 days pain wise though!
I will cut down on the cheese. I already do eat lean meat. I'm not much for greasy meat. I ate bear once, and it was nasty and greasy. Oooh, shivers. I'll watch it with the cream too! Is Pp a lower fat program? Have a nice vacation and don't worry about replying until you get back. You should be packing!
PP is not lower fat per say but it does say that pigging out on fat is not reccommended. The rationalization is to eat a realistic amount of cals. if you eat to much it usually is not conductive to losing weigh fast. it will slow you down no matter which program you follow it stands to reason that if you eat 3500 cals with most of it being fat then it will limit your weight loss. but where my concern is with you is your stomach. may people when eating higher fats they do not adjust very well for a while. I am more concerned that your reflux can be limited with some limitation of the bile production (fat stimulated) and that the grease may be just stimulating your reflux. that will cut down as your diet gets regulated. it took me a while to get back to normal from carb loading. it actually took me a month about to rid totally from the reflux. with the pain radiating like that it really sounds like hiatial hernia. it is almost a stabbing pain that catches you mid chest and hurts like heck!! for me when it gets to me it makes me jump right up as the pain is so severe.

DD is wahing all her clothes and i cleaned all DD2's room today 3 hours worth and took out 4 loads of laundry from her room!! have not gotten to that yet to wash. I am not allowed near the washer yet. I must have had 10 loads go through today so far!! believe it or not i am just checking on directions!!! we are leaving at 8 am tomorrow and it is 11 pm!!!! I love this. I work best under pressure!!
