Good morning, chickies! Another hot one coming up - glisten, glisten, glisten. DH and I have our usual power struggle over the AC - he turns it off first thing in the morning and I sneak it back on. He thrives in the heat and I find it hard to work in - especially baking like yesterday!
Got my exercise yesterday afternoon. My neighbour's nasty dog finally died - she was going to take her to the vet but Lacey decided to get it over with. Ever dig a 2 foot deep hole big enough for a large German shephard? Anyhow, we did it and then had a beer and a cry. I cry whenever anyone else cries - I will not miss this nasty barking dog!
Perfect Claire brought the dogs a wading pool yesterday. I threw a ball in and Lucy put in one paw at a time to get it. Finally Hershey said "Screw this!" and went in and got the darn ball! Lucy will finally get brave. Hersh is somewhat disappointed that the pool is not big enough for swimming but it will be good for them on really hot days.
I am not going to meet my Canada Day goal but have quit beating myself up over it! I've been watching carbs and fats but there are times when I go off program - like yesterday after the dog funeral when Laurie said "Want a beer?" - just seemed appropriate.
The Family reunion starts around noon today when the first wave arrives in the village - The Inn is full as are the two B&Bs. BBQ planned on the Lower Lake tonight, a lunch on the Upper Lake on The Island tomorrow, buffet dinner here tomorrow night, Sunday is a.m. Church, setting up the Fair Hall, renewal of vows for a cousin and her man, Party in the Hall, and then a lunch at Joan's place on Monday! Somewhere in there I need to shorten something to wear and also get my piano moved to the Fair Hall - plus cook for the Monday lunch. The meal here will be easy because it'll be bread, salad and cold meats but I do have to make 4 dozen eggs into devilled eggs for Monday! Sure seems that the Family is very food centred. Cousin Peter will probably say "OMG! No pie!!!" I am feeling a bit frazzled. There will also be a constant stream of drrop-ins here to see the old family house and barn but I'm set for that right now with the big coffee pot and teapots ready.
Soooo.....if I'm not around much, you'll know why. Right now I am going to turn the AC back on, take a bath and then take Miss Lucy to obedience in Kingston. Need to buy 4 watermelons in town too. Thank God I have access to the Church fridge.
This is nutsy! Remind me to bite my lip next time I have a bright idea!
Ruth good luck to you on that!! hope all goes well with the weekend. Iknow that can be a bit frazzeling so takke it easy. what is done is done and what is not, can wait!!!
for my my day is going to be busy but at a more controlled pace!1 Ihope!
yeah, it's a lot of work but it'll be so much fun to see everyone. jsut next time, let someone else do it!!!!
not sure about what's going on this weekend. would like to get my nails done. would like to go to the movies. and there's always errands and bills!!!!
still wrangling with the health insurance company about a bill from last december for heaven's sake!!! they admit that they owe the money, but every time they turn it over to the claims processor, it gets bounced back!!!
this time a couple of supervisors got involved, so maybe it'll actually get paid. i'm in no mood to pay this hospital more than 2000 bucks!!!!
so, have a great day, ya'll. leens... i need some play time. do you???
Ruth - I hope you will take some time to relax and enjoy your family! And about that goal, surely you remember the first rule of dieting?? "Goal dates are made to be moved" Oh, waitaminute, I think I made that one up!! Whatever, just enjoy your weekend, the rest will come.
Sue, I just LOVE your philosophy -- may I PLEASE adopt it? I think we're gonna need it around here this weekend!
Jif - my friend told me that she just loved "Ya-Ya Sisterhood".... talk about a chick flick!
samsgrandma, I was thinking about you last night when they post-poned the Brave's Met's game. Did you at least get your hot dog and beer before they called it??
Sue after yesterday you need an easy day.
Jiff we have one ot those pesky bills from the hospital too. Mine is only $180.00 the insurance company messed up and paid only $1.00 by mistake, they also agree they owe the money but are dragging their feet. I think we should just pay the money and fight with the insurance company later, but my hubby does not want to do it that way. Can you say cheap? The man, god I love him, but he squeaks when he walks.
Daughter and I had new hair-dos done yesterday, she looks so cute, the stylist did her hair in a mahagony (sp) color and it looks very good on her, she cut it in a chin lenght bob. Me, I was scalped! It's what I wanted, and boy, oh boy is it short. Nice and cool for the summer.
I have so many errands to run today, I'm off to AAA to purchase discount tickets to Universal, Islands of Adventure. My hubby, daughter, son and the son's girlfriend will go on Monday. I'm still not strong enough to do all the walking required at the park, that's okay I didn't really want to go anyway, don't tell the hubby! I need to do a Wal-Mart run and a grocery stroe run, and on, and on.
This will probably be my last post until I return on the 8th or 9th of July, so everyone have a fun, safe 4th of July.
I think we here onthis board are the ya-ya sisterhood--but chickie sisterhood! Who else do we turn to when things go down the crapper (or not in Sue's case?) or we have surprise hosptial visits, or caring for our families, or sh's and dh's, kids (or no kids in my case but crossing fingers!), gardens, cooking, water, weather and just about everything else? We always come here and that's why I love to "see" you guys first thing in the morning--the only sane people I know!! LOL Just the brightest spot in my day and you guys always will be!
Canada Day weekend here and typically the busiest weekend of the year (short of the weekend before Christmas). Estimitated at over 2 million people will be coming through all of Muskoka this weekend so I have to get my hiney to the grocery store for last minute stuff or there won't be anything left. Literally--last year, every grocery store, convenience store or what have you ran out of toilet paper and milk--couldn't find them unitl Tuesday afternoon! Not looking forward to it much, I usually end up as the person that almost gets run over trying to get my mail because they are lost! On this weekend, I usually have about 5-6 cars drive by asking for directions.
Other than that it's a quiet time at home but I might take Miree over to the next town since they are having celebrations in the ark for Canada Day and they are having an act called Jam Sandwich. They are really popular around here--two sisters sing kids songs and give a nice performance. I know Miree will love it.
Sorry I've already got one foot out the door, today is flying by and I just wanted to plop in and say HI .... HI HI HI.
Have a WONDERFUL weekend.
Love, Leens
Jifffffffy, I'm with yah Sis, I need play time BADLY !!!!! One day we should go to PA shopping at the Crossings and hit the candle factory. Great Place.
Oh yeah, I broke my tooth this morning eating a bagle....don't worry it was my wisdom tooth haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... WISDOM!!!
Only had the chance to do a bit of lurking lately. It just seems like there is always so much going on and I'm always playing catch up! Monday DH and ds are going for the yearly "boyz" week. I am hoping i can get things caught up and some things done in advance in preparation for my trip.
Office phone is busy this morning - need to run. Hopefully I can make it back later!
Good morning. We finally did get a bit of welcome rain last night. Our grass is completely crunchy and brown.
I am helping my Dad celebrate his retirement today. At age 76, he is finishing up his insurance agency job for 48 years!!!
I hope to get a little walking in this afternoon,. Miss all of you friends. Hugs to everyone,Love Linda
Hi Everyone! Just a quick post today--getting ready to hit the highway for DH's family reunion and then on to 2 days at the waterpark hotel. DH is a crabby stressed out mess and I am working up to it. I think DS and I will stick him in back and tell him to shut the H&** up! Anyway, DS's basketball team finished up their summer season 11-0 last night. They played without 5 of their players and still beat two tough teams. On the downside my DS sprained his ankle slightly in the second game-the coach told him to lace his shoe tighter and then back in he went! He played fine, but this morning it is a little stiff and tender. His Varsity coach has asked him and two other sophmores to be if they want to play with the varsity in some all weekend tournament up by Chicago in a few weeks. I have reacted with tempered happiness and pride.Another good day of eating and exercising for me yesterday.
Have a good one everyone and I will be back (hopefully without ticking anyone off) in a couple of days.
Debkay -- actually, I was thinking of you at the game yesterday!! - Several of us in the stands decided that all those rooting for Atlanta should have their umbrellas revoked!!! YES - I had 2 hotdogs, a beer AND a small bag of crackerjacks! yummmmm - I had forgotten how good mushy white bread (or in this case, Wonder hot dog buns!) tastes! With the rain-out, does that mean that I get to splurge again when we have the make-up game?
A beer? Wow. I'm salvating just thinking about it .... but, its hot and my feet are swelling, so I can just imagine what a beer would do to me!
I just about didn't make it here tonight -- I've been so busy and motivated to today! I did all my errands, made numerous phone calls and I think I found a place to take the dog to run. Her yard is just too small for her energy and I feel so badly for her. I don't run, just walk and its not enough for her.
I am happy to report that I am on day 3 of being OP! YEAH FOR ME!!!! I've managed to drink my water and stay on task. In fact, dh came home in the middle of the night last night and says, "why in the world did you purge the house of all the sweets"???? My response....."uh, gee, now why don't YOU tell ME!"
Have a great weekend Chickies! I think we are going to an air show tomorrow and then dh and I are thinking of going out to a nice fancy Newport restaurant to celebrate out anniversary -- its not until next week, but he'll be underway again.
Howdy ya'alllllll! Is that right? See I am practicing!!!!
Tea Gee Eye Eff....I read that somewhere!
It is great to be among the living and the sane!!! Yes! That means you chickies!
But! before I digress....Sam and Rosies Grandma? GO YANKS....(although Mo Vaughn IS beginning to hold a special place in my heart!)
Now I digress!
I can not wait to go to Hot 'lanta (except for the Braves thing...I am really looking forward to it)because life here is kind of nutty. For example yesterday dh drove to Pennsylvania (hello Chrissy B) to get the little guy a turtle! It is legal to own turtles here in my un named state and New York too (I don't want the feds crashing down on my humble home) but it is illegal to sell them. So, dh goes on his merry way. But! it is illegal to sell a turtle that is less than 4 inches across. BUT if you buy $91 worth of "stuff" to turtle paraphanalia...they will "give" you the turtle for free! Funny! I thought that gift with purchases were only available at cosmetic counters!
I digress
So, toby the turtle is happy, BUT autistic kid little guy gets up and now wants a savahna monitor lizard. We say, "no" he has fit and needs to be restrained. (oh Pooky...The explosive child is another good book...I got dozens of 'em!)
knock on the door.... Jiff on her way to work...I need to weigh myself
Dh is retraining the kid...I am putting a toy in a bag every time he clobbers dh (I got the good end) . Jiff comes out looking crest fallen and says, "I gained a pound"! Peach says, "go to the bathroom!"
So goes a typical day at the pit household! Atlanta, Braves and all is looking pretty darn good to me!!!!
Oh peach your house sounds like mine a bit!! LOL I have difficult children that like to throw fits of screaming. we had an extra child this week and well she got on everybodys nerves (especially the boys ) and having Mike still here he has friends over all the time. I have kids comming out of the wodwork here all the time. the other day a 9 year old called here at 10:30 PM to tell me to tell my son that he may be able to play in the morning. I almost died when he called!!! he did get a calm earful that night!!!
We did the turtle routine, that has been let go in the swim pond, but we have 1 hampster, 2 cats, 1 dog, 4 fish and 2 snails 2 little boys 1 big boy and 2 medium girls then DH and I so you can imangine how confusing my house can get with all the friends comming and going!!!
