Default What's The Difference?

I am getting ready to start full time a low carb/high protein diet. My DH has just had WLS (weight loss sssurgery) and his doctor told him he will need to stay on a high protein/low carb diet for the rest of his life, so If its good for him, it must be good for me too.

I have been trying to read through these thread, and am getting plenty confused. What is CAD and CALD? how are they different, and how do they differ from the Adkins? Are there others out there? Where would I go to check out the differences and find out which one would be best for us?

I will have one of the CAD followers give you the differences between the two and what each one represents, but the best advice I can offer on comparing all the different low carb options is to go to the library and read all the books.

There are SO many....

Carbohydrate Addict, Protein Power, Sugar Busters, Atkins, just to name a few.

You may have to try a couple before you find the right one for you!

Good luck and post any other questions you may have! We are here to help!

hey ageoldie!!! welcome to this rocking board!!! i just wanted to wade in here with a few comments.

the high protein/low carb works for many people, but just because your husband will have to eat this way for the rest of his life doesn't mean that it would necessarily be the best thing for you.

i've also had the wls, and the reason we have to force the protein is because we can eat so little, and the only way we can meet our protein needs is with protein shakes, and high protein meals. the refined carbs add no nutrients to our diet. but we do need to get the vegs.

after the surgery, some of us don't process sugar well, not even the natural sugar in fruit, so we eat the way we do so that we don't get sick.

all this to say that you should choose this way of eating because it suits YOU, not because of your husband's surgery.

by the way, i hope it's going well for him. it's a hard, hard decision to make, and the first month or so isn't easy.
