hey ageoldie!!! welcome to this rocking board!!! i just wanted to wade in here with a few comments.
the high protein/low carb works for many people, but just because your husband will have to eat this way for the rest of his life doesn't mean that it would necessarily be the best thing for you.
i've also had the wls, and the reason we have to force the protein is because we can eat so little, and the only way we can meet our protein needs is with protein shakes, and high protein meals. the refined carbs add no nutrients to our diet. but we do need to get the vegs.
after the surgery, some of us don't process sugar well, not even the natural sugar in fruit, so we eat the way we do so that we don't get sick.
all this to say that you should choose this way of eating because it suits YOU, not because of your husband's surgery.
by the way, i hope it's going well for him. it's a hard, hard decision to make, and the first month or so isn't easy.
