Questions for you gals?

I was surfing the boards and asked a question in the Sugar Busters boards and only 1 person responded. Thats no problem.

Then I thought I would surf that particular board and see if anyone else had the same question as me.......BOY that board is hard to find stuff, so I gave up.

Does anyone here know what Sugar Busters is about ? What type of diet is it......other than the obvious..NO SUGAR...hehehe.

Thanks,

Love, Leens

Sugar busters... that is the suzann summers program??? I believe it is. it is focused on food combinations. you must eat what they say. You do not mix protein and carbs. you can eat vegies and carbs and eat vegies and protein but not carbs and protien. and if you eat carbs you can not eat protein within like 2 hours. it is wierd like that. but it seems to work for people. that is my understand of the diet in a nutshell.

(If i am wrong then please some one let me know. )

Default Sugar Busters

Sugar Busters is written by 3 (or is it 4) doctors. It preaches good food choices, eat carbs in sync with protein, and only eat fruit by itself at least 2 hours before/after a meal. I think??? It's been a while since I read the book.

Sommersizing is the plan by Suzanne Sommers, and it is similar, although I haven't read that particular book.

There are a lot of websites about Sugar Busters, try a search engine! Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Talking Hey, nasus!

You're the workout guru aren't you? I have a question for you!

If I start doing squats and lunges will I get this horrible pain in my knees? I have a bursitis problem from way back, and I'm scared to aggravate it, but I need some lower body (read butt and legs!!) work. Any suggestions?

Thanks!! You're the greatest!

Hi Leens

I was just surfing around the sites here and saw your post about Sugar Busters. Sorry you missed the reply I had posted on the SB board.

Sugar Busters is a diet based on the glycemic index. This is a rating of how carbohydrate foods affect the blood sugar levels and consequently raise the blood insulin levels. The theory is that excess insulin causes the body to produce fat cells, and consequently weight gain. To get a good understanding of this woe you really need to read the book "SUGAR BUSTERS! Cut Sugar To Trim Fat" by H. Leighton Steward and Sam S. Andrews (and others). Another book that explains this woe that I would recommend is "EAT YOURSELF SLIM" by Michel Montignac. He explains things in more detail than SB. Both these books should be available in your local library.

Sugar Busters is not the same as Somersizing although both these woes were copied from and are similar to Michel Montignac's "Eat Yourself Slim" and all are based on the glycemic index. Sugar Busters does not use food combining like Somersizing and, to a lesser extent, Eat Yourself Slim.

We eat foods from all the food groups but restrict sugar, refined foods, like anything made with white flour, white rice (except basmati). We eat whole grain bread, whole wheat pasta, brown rice, although all starchy carbs are eaten in moderation particularly during the weight loss phase. We eat lean meat, chicken, fish. Lots of vegetables and fruits, although there are some restrictions depending on the glycemic index of the food.

If you are not familiar with the glycemic index there is some good information on Rick Mendosa's websites if you would like to check it out.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Sorry sherry I missed your question before.

YES it will hurt your knees i am sorry to say but if you do not go down to far then it should be better.

but let me just say that weight loss can not be done in spots. such as if you have large legs doing leg exercises will not spot reduce your legs it will help tone them so they do not jiggle so much but the fat comes off in layers like it went on. when you eat cake it is not designated just to go to the legs but your genes make more of it go to your legs than otherwise. so when you lose weight then it will come off similar to how it went on. that is good and bad news. I wish that i could spot reduce i would target my boobs and gut and legs. Do not get me wrong that you do not need to do leg exercises but just not to concentrate on them. so now what kinds iof exercise are you doing? are you doing weights? are you going to the gym? or if you are doing things like walking and biking then that should be good but to add things like lifts that would work the whole leg like the lay on the back and raise the legs that works the gut and the leg and leg extensions the kind where you are sitting and extend the leg with weights on it. if you have them

the key is t care for your knees, before you exercise to keep the inflamation down take some antiinflammatory like ibuprofen if you are not on anything now. and as you get more in you will find that you do not need it. When i started to exercise i could not walk a block with out my ankles killing me, now i can run with little to no pain and no ibuprofen (just my hip flexor muscle now) and i am working on that.

Talking I knew you would know what was what!

I'm exercising some at home, not at a gym yet, though I may resort to that because I can't afford good equipment. I walk after work every day and I have a set of hand weights that I work my arms and back and chest with a video. I also have an abs video, it only takes 10 minutes, and it's a killer! The thing is, any type of exercise where you use your own weight that involves bending and standing KILLS my knees. I hate it, because it hurts FOREVER after I get done, not the good ache that comes with working those muscles. The right knee has been hurting for about 2 weeks now but it's starting to slack off.

I recently saw an informercial for The Firm videos, they say their original gym is here in my hometown, but I can't find it anywhere. Hmmmm. Anyway, they have this HUGE step that breaks down into 3 heights and they say it really tones the bottom and thighs (sag city around here!!). The problem is, if I'm going to injure myself I'm not going to do it!

I never thought of doing leg lifts and such things would be less likely to hurt my knees, right? I'll add those to my routine. The upper body is coming along fine, I would like the lower to match! Thanks for your great advice!!

no problem sherri. one thing though is if you do the ankle weights do not wal with them on. it may seel like a great idea but i have had told to me that it adds stress to your knees and hips by using them it is caused by the swining motion which the momentum when swinging can cause joint strain (PAIN) so do them when sitting or standing these can be done laying sitting and even standing (side lifts and back lifts.) before i started with my trainer i was wearing them all day at work and it was a sight to see, everytime i went to get a drink i would do some lifts side, forward and back. i sure did start some great muscles. so if you do not do lots of walking you may want to wlrk your way up to that but do not do your walking with them. yusing weights for your hands when walking are not bad as long as you do not hold them at your sides (down) and just swing your arms hold your arms up with your elows bent and do a running type of movement with them.

Take your ibuprofen!!!! and make sure you take them before you exercise. I will ask OZZIE if there are any more exercises you can do. and join the gym. aslong as you use it you will not regret doing it!! and you will thankyour self afterwards. I have been working out for 10 months now and never regreted a single moment of the expence!!! (and I am dying here)
