Cool Big Boobs = Big Bra = Big Bucks

Hello ladies! I recently joined the community and I thought I would lend as much information as possible to the community. I read a few posts talking about bras and I thought I would lend my professional advice and expertise as a previous Lane Bryant management a few years back before I went after my current profession. I don't mean to get preachy, but I thought I would offer as much advice and help as possible to help save a buck and offer information.

Bra Fittings: The worst thing you can do and get frustrated about is wasting your time trying on bra after bra. If you are plus size and even if you are not make sure you get a fitting every 6 months. Even if you don't end up making a purchase, slip into your Lane Bryant or other favorite store and request a bra fitting. If the ladies at your favorite store aren't seemingly nice about giving the fitting send a quick email to management. Trust me, they get a personal talking to and better step up their behavior/performance or else they get replaced. At Lane Bryant I was one of their top bra saleswomen in my region, so I definitely know the ins and outs of the bra business. They offer over the shirt fittings so you don't have to get undressed unless you request - including those who aren't plus size! You are even allowed to try on their bras and you get a professional opinion in how you look in return.

Look 10lbs Lighter: Yep, I can't tell you how much skinner you will look with the right fitting bra on. Guess what, if you are complaining about wires hurting you and disbelief you can have a great supporting sexy bra then you're in the wrong size. With the right size on, after having a bra fitting, you will, I guarantee see a huge change in your appearance and feel comfortable. I changed many a woman's day just by getting her in the right bra!

It's a lotta cash: Uh huh, it costs a little more to have bigger breasts. I know, I have 38 DDDs and I feel your pain on the wallet. Here are some secrets in the business of plus size booby business. When Victoria Secret is having their semi-annual sale Lane Bryant is usually right there with them. You can buy 2 get 2 free. Throughout the year the bras are always buy 1 get one 1/2 off and LB always has coupons!!!! So, plan your bra shopping to co-inside with your 6 month purchases and save your back, appearance, and wallet. The investment in a great bra is imperative to your health. Back issues are no fun. Those awful dig marks in your shoulders are NO FUN. Looking 10lbs heavier than you should is NO FUN!

What bra should I get? I understand the desire to want to wear something sexy underneath. There's something simply amazing when wearing a cute print and cut beneath the outer layer. Here's what I would do:

Wide Shoulders / Smaller Breasts (C-D): Demi Bra. I would link examples, but my count is not 25 or higher. Please refer to the Lane Bryant website to refer to the bras I am suggesting.

Hour Glass / Larger Boobs / DD - F: Balconette Bra. I'm 26 now, but in college this bra was all I would wear. I could get a sexy bra and I could get an every day comfortable bra. I LOVE THIS BRA. The widened straps aren't so wide that I feel unsexy and the way the bra is molded/shaped it helps tone down my cleavage. This the most popular bra that Lane Bryant sells for a reason - it's the absolute best for most big breasted women because of comfort and cuteness.

**For sizes higher than an F I would suggest a custom made bra OR ordering a Full coverage F or DDD bra from Lane Bryant. Full coverage is extra cup room.

Sexy Bra for short term occasions: I will tell you now that the plunge bra was not intended for women who are very curvy up top because it will be uncomfortable and usually you have to go a size up. A lot of women have to take out the air pockets to fit and at the end of the night the smaller straps dig down and hurt the shoulders.

Strapless for the Ladies? Guess what, YOU can wear strapless bras if you are fitted for the correct size and try on this gem of a bra. I have this bra, in fact, I have two. I can still wear strapless and not tug my breasts up every moment of the day. It's built for larger breasted women. It's not an every day bra, but if you have that special occasion and want to wear a halter, you'll have no fits with this product. BRA6 Convertable. You get straps with it so it's a 6 for one product.

Why should I invest? Simple, this is what you will wear (usually and hopefully in public at least) every single day and you deserve to feel good. Don't be miserable. Make the investment. This is the equivalent to a hair appointment, mani-pedi nail day, or a pair of those shoes you probably shouldn't have bought. What's even worse your bras that you purchase cheaply (and they break/tear up) surpasses this investment over one year. This is the product that is going to help you show off your body like it's meant too. Heck, clothes look better, too!

Making your bras last: Simple. Don't dry them. I have done routine bra fittings and have stayed the same booby size until recently. (3 years) After 2 years of having a few bras they're finally not wearable. If you make the investment and care for your product it saves you money. Make sure when you first try on a bra you are on the very last hook possible so that as it loses its elasticity you can tighten it up - same goes for your shoulder straps.

If you have any questions feel free to list them below. I'll try my best to help in any way I can. Of course this information is based on personal/professional experience. If you've had great happiness with a product then keep going with it! I no longer work for Lane Bryant, so I am not trying to advocate them in any form or fashion. It's just the product I know and have loved early on in life.

Thank you for sharing all this knowledge. I recently got fitted at Macy's and found out that I've been wearing the wrong cup size! The bras that I have now feel so good. There's no chafing or slipping or bulging or straps cutting into my shoulders or my girls falling out from underneath.

My aunt used to own a dress shop & bra fittings was something she offered. I learned soooo much about the right bra from her. Yes, when your bra fits...you feel better & you look better. Thanks for the reminder Scondy.

Thanks for the information Scondy. I was recently fitted at Nordstrom's. I walked in wearing a 38D (which I knew was too big) and walked out with a 34DD. I'm still perplexed on how that worked, but the new bra fit. Unfortunately, I had to return the bra because it was an underwire. I haven't worn an underwire in years and the wire was very uncomfortable. Now I'm on a hunt for cute, affordable bras in my size without wiees. I just looked on Lane Bryant's website and discovered they don't go down to 34's.

Hey there! You can actually wear a size 36D if you are wearing a 34DD! Your previous size, 38D actually equaled out to a 36DD, so you actually did lose.

The trick is finding the right bra with the right size cup coverage that wild mold and fit your ladies. I would suggest a demi bra for you!

**Also, adding in the extra room might be a more comfortable fit for an underwire. Also a lot of time the basting is often confused with the wire itself if you have any issues with something digging in under your armpit.

So you've decided you're going to go get your bra fitting?
I thought I'd pass on yet a bit more information for those who might be interested. Trust me, a little pre-planning never hurt anyone when deciding to make the investment in a great bra. Give a call to your local Lane Bryant or store to ask if a bra sizing specialist will be in. If a bra sizing specialist isn't in then request the manager. She has to know her stuff because she usually has to train others. Don't feel shy about being aggressive about this. It's your comfort and YOUR money that you're investing.

What to wear for your bra fitting:
In the winter it's easy to pile on the heavy layers, which can lead to the wrong bra fit. If you happen to be in the store with a sweater on make sure to scoop up a cami to put on for your fitting. You do not have to purchase this cami. You can simply use it for try on purposes. If you go you can also wear a tank top or cami underneath a shirt you're comfortable in OR you can wear a form fitting shirt for the best over the shirt measurements.

What to do while you're being sized:
So, a knowledgable bra fitter will give you a directions, but it doesn't help to be informed as to what to do. Ok, so she pulls out the measuring tape you just stand there. (Just kidding :3)

Step one: Both hands should have a "thumbs up" position.
Step two: Hook your thumbs underneath its respective shoulder straps starting the cup.
Step three: Slide your thumbs up the strap until they're close to your collarbone, pinch the straps, and LIFT. If you slide your thumbs up onto the top of your shoulders it'll more than likely just stretch out the band and not give you the right measurement.
Step four: Chicken wing. Elbows should be facing outward so that the bra sizer can get a measurement underneath your ladies. Do your best to maintain great posture.

Try the bra on after the fit WITH the fitter close by:
Sometimes boobs are just weird or the bra shape is not right for you. If you can fit your hand flat against the curve of your breast inside the cup, the cup is too large. If you're muffin topping over, after you've tried loosening the straps to adjust for comfort then you're in the wrong cup size OR wrong band size. Sometimes just going up a band size will allow for the extra room. Whatever the reason, throw the top you were previously wearing for the fitting on and step out of the dressing room. If anything you'll be able to look in the mirror and start to see the transformation of the new you. It's a HUGE motivational tool for those who want to see a transformation to skinny.

I wear this size here but that size over there:
There's a reason I mentioned stick to a product you love in a previous post. Bras are built differently depending on the brand or store. Cuts are different and padding is added in, usually to the store likes Victoria Secret, because these women are pushing for sexy cleavage whereas a bigger breasted woman is looking to tone it down a little. If you decide to skip to a different product make sure you get sized yet again for that particular brand/store. Some ladies have already mentioned they are different sizes depending on where they go. Victoria Secret sizes differently than a store like Lane Bryant.

What's wrong with Target, Walmart, or the like?
Nothing is wrong with their products but they are more than likely cheaply made, thus they can charge less. You're spending $20 bucks for about 3 months of wear time if you're not taking care of your bra properly. In the end you're spending the same amount or more on bras. Well built bras (great product) will last a lot longer than cheaply made brands.

I spent a lot of money on bras and the wire popped out/it broke:
If I remember correctly Lane Bryant has a 90 day return policy. Check the other stores for this sort of thing. On the rare occasion someone came in with a broken bra issue we would take it back, damage it out, and replace the bra. If for some reason the store refuses to take back the bra after you made the investment simply contact the regional manager. (Information is always on the website.) Go over the store's head and explain the situation and remind her that you're a loyal customer. More than likely this regional manager will do what will make you happy to satisfy YOU. Just shoot her an email. That's all it takes!

Molded cup or cotton?
If you don't mind headlighting people go for the cotton. Personally, I choose the molded cup to keep my headlights dimmed. Cotton is great for comfort and lounge days.

More information to come.

One boob a size different than the other:
Yep it happens and it's sometimes more apparent in some women than others. Always get the most comfortable fit for the larger breast. The product Lane Bryant has to solve this is the plunge bra because it comes with air pockets that you can take out or replace. Simply take the air pocket out from the cup that's on the side of your largest breast and the air pocket should compensate. Sometimes the balconette bra will mold to your shape a bit better. If there's just a little space between the cup and your breast (unless it's puckering the cup) it's ok.

I'm an F, G, or H
I know that Lane Bryant has F, G, and H sizes available. Since the number of women who come in to request said sizes is very minimal I know they rarely carry the sizes. OR if the store does get a shipment of them in, ladies of said sizes are in constant contact with the management to know when to zip in to purchase the sizes. If you get sized at the store you can (at least at Lane Bryant) get sizes directly shipped to the store. Once the product makes its way in, a sales associate will give you a call so you can make your way back in to try on! Ask a sales associate about LB2M or having items shipped directly to the store. You can even order online and have it shipped FREE directly to the store. Once it's in, you're called, and you can drive in to have your fitting or try on the bras. If it a size doesn't work for you, you can return it instantly back to the store and they'll have it in stock for the next lady who might need that bra just as terribly.

Wires SUCK
I'd say 9 out of 10 times the reason why women hate a wired bra is because they're in the wrong size or for a few other reasons. I'll do my best to explain. If the wire is digging into your breast it's probably too small of a bra. This is noticeable as well if you have a bit of underboobage. If the wire is poking the inside of your arm then the cup size is more than likely too big. If you're getting poked underneath your arm it's more than likely the basting. You can take the basting out without ruining your bra. Basting is like the boning of a corset. It's meant to keep the material in place but it's not always necessary. I've taken the basting out many a time for comfort reasons. Also, band tightness could be one of the main issues. Some bra fitters aren't knowledgable in this little fact. If you go up in band size (say a 36 to a 38) and go down in cup (DD to a D) then it usually equates to the same time, but offers a little more space around the rib cage for comfort.

Also, if you're overeating a lot of the times the wire does become uncomfortable. Since we're all here for weight loss tips and motivation this might give a bit of insight of why it's good not to overeat! The wire ends up putting a lot of pressure on your stomach. It's the same exact thing as wearing stretchy pants. It's worn for comfort and to keep the pressure off bulging areas. If you're not overeating more than likely you'll enjoy underwire a lot more.

There are also other reasons such as surgical procedures that may create a discomfort when wearing an underwire.

Still not a satisfied customer? I know Lane Bryant has some great options for wireless bras. It provides the right support and an array of molded up/cute print options.

Should I sleep in my bra?
Personally, my fit is so excellent I don't feel discomfort wearing my bra to sleep. I've never understood the "I take my bra off as soon as walk in the door" mentality. I find it more uncomfortable for my baby bags to hang down. I suppose if I had smaller breasts it would be a little more freeing. If you're worried about discomfort look for a wireless cotton bra for sleep wear and support.

Benefits of wearing a bra.
Why weren't we born with a built in bra when it's so great to have one? I'll never understand that! Other than the obvious reasons (less back problems) here's a few more:

Keepin' em perky. My great aunt Brenda has size DD breasts and she is in her 70s. She's always worn a great bra and keeps them up, perky, and youthful. She looks so healthy and has steered away from frump. She's had children but because she made the decision to wear good products to keep her ladies up, she's maintained her perkiness over the years - or at least the appearance!

Less stretch marks. Yes, I know that stretch marks come from weight gain or the stretching of skin, but if you understand how gravity works you'll understand that wearing the wrong bra or no bra can allow for gravity's inevitable endless pull of the weight of your breasts to the ground.

Self confidence. Your clothes will fit differently with the right bra. You'll be able to show off your figure a lot more. Your boobs don't look like they're lumps attached to your stomach. Empire waist shirts will begin to make sense and did I already mention you'll show off your actual smaller frame? People will notice this. Your husband, boyfriend/girlfriend/ and family will notice.

Lemongrab, if you don't mind me asking, what's your size? Rosie Huntington-Whiteley's boob size is 34 B (Victoria Secret model). Push up bras, tape, and clips on photo shoots and excellent photo shop skills increase the look of their breasts a great deal. Personally, i have given many a woman a boob job post processing. High fashion models are usually A cups. (I work in the fashion industry so I understand the strict sizing methods.) These women walk the run ways because they are coat hangers and the emphasis is on the clothes, not the body (if that makes any sense). Shirts and dresses become about the style, fabric, and cut for smaller breasted women which is what larger breasted women often dream about! Ah and the less back pain you have - I envy YOU!

It's only in America where people are obsessed with breasts. In Europe and elsewhere it's all about the booty! Also, smaller breasted women have a lot more options and clothes to wear. I can't imagine going braless with pasties, but smaller breasted women can do this so easily. Also, halters, strapless, and sexier outfits are often less straining for those with smaller breasts.

I normally don't support breast augmentation, but I do support doing what makes you happy and doing what's healthy. Personally, I could opt to do Lap Band surgery, but open holes and foreign things in one's body only increases the chances for something to go wrong. Check out Cristy Nicole, Playboy model, on google. She's a 34 A. Warning, she is nude because well...duh... it's Playboy. She rocks smaller breasts and had considered breast augmentation, but decided against it. Of course she's in tip top shape but she's embraced having smaller breasts when in the world of Playboy there are mostly breast implanted women! Fact is, breast augmentation can do a great thing and offer you the boost of confidence you crave if necessary. I'm not a doctor so I won't tell you what to do, nor have I ever felt the sadness I know a few small breasted women have had so I won't assume either. I suppose my question is what would the purpose be for getting breast implants? Would clothes fit better in your opinion?

Thanks for that info! You just increased my options. I will have to go and see what feels right. I'm frustrated that all the cute bras seem to be underwires. I wan to like them. I really do.

I'm currently in a 36H which is a pretty hard size to find. I had a fitting at Nordstrom and was put in a Wacoal Awareness bra which has thicker padded straps and hidden underwire. This is the most comfortable bra that I have ever owned but it costs $65. So I bought one at Nordstrom and I ordered more on eBay for around $30 a piece. If you know the size and style that you want, I would highly recommend getting bras from eBay.

I'm enjoying my bras now that are in a 34DDD; they flatter me nicely! However, I still don't get how I have this bra size when my measurements don't match up.

I measured yesterday at 32.25" around the ribcage. 36 for the bust, which comes out to a 32D right? I know damn good and well that won't fit me; D cups smoosh my boobs. I probably need to get a professional fitting. I wish we had a Nordstrom. -sigh-

Hey there! Did you get a professional fitting to put you in a 34DDD? The reason you're in this size (bear with me here as I explain) is due to your little rib cage.

34DDD = 36DD or a 32D.

A 36 waist band will probably be too large for you, this why the 34 waistband is most comfy. So, knowing the 32 will smush you, and the 36 DD will create a too roomy feeling, you made the educated choice to go with the 34DDD. You may even wanna try a 34DD if you can get your hands on it.
