Default Help for hair!

Due to my ever increasing grey hairs I colour my hair every 2 months or so. It is a reddish/brunnette colour. However due to arthritic knees, my exercise options are really limited and I have started swimming twice a week. Even with a swimming hat ( not a great look for a fat chick!) my hair still leeches colour really quickly.
Can anybody offer some advice/product/suggestion?
I am not working at present so have a really limited budget.
Many Thanks

Red is a hard color to maintain. Period. The molecules are smaller, so even people without gray have issues maintaining it. What I would do, is ditch the red completely and start getting rid of it with some heavy highlights. Blonde disguises gray and highlights you only have to maintain 2-3 times per year.

Maybe do it out of the box for now instead of going to the salon? I need to touch up my red locks too but I can't afford to spend 50+ at the salon when I can pay 8 bucks at Wal-mart and do it myself.
