Are you changing your look?

I've noticed that alot of people that reached goal have changed their hairstyles. I was wondering how many people planned to change thier look when they reach goal? I'm blonde and always had long hair when I was younger. I've cut it to shoulder length for the last 10 years or so. When I picture myself with all the weight gone I always picture myself with long hair, so I'm growing it out. Anyone else plan to change things up a little to go with the new body?

Madame Souza 04-10-2012 11:04 PM

I have noticed that I am attracted to more flamboyant and daring colors and styles than I used to buy. I think when I was at my highest weight, I didn't want to be noticed and now I don't care. I am considering growing my hair out.

berryblondeboys 04-10-2012 11:12 PM

Well, I cut my butt length hair just before I started this journey because it was thinning out so much (later discovered it was thyroid trouble). The only rerql change is thwtnim wearing form-fitting clothes because they are the most flattering and I bought a few pairs of summer heels whereas I've always worn something like Keens. I still plants be my normal self, but will be a bit more fun with the wardrobe in my smaller size.

sontaikle 04-11-2012 12:19 AM

I can't really imagine changing my hair all that much. I still love it. Every few years or so I do get it highlighted and I am due for another round so I might do that.

Like berryblondeboys I really have changed my clothing style. I'm wearing tighter clothes now when I probably wouldn't be caught dead in them before.

ValRock 04-11-2012 12:26 AM

Yes! I used to wear my hair pulled back in a ponytail every day. Now I have sideswept bangs and usually curl it all and leave it down :). I used to wear jeans/tees every day, too. I'm branching out to skirts and dresses and more fitted tops.

Definitely. I've been growing out my hair. It almost reaches the small of my back now and I have no immediate plans to cut it. I figure that when I reach goal I'll have a lot of options as I'll be able to do pretty much anything with it. I think being able to change your look is one of the great motivators for losing weight, so keep growing out yours!

lovemydoggiesx2 04-11-2012 05:20 AM

I have always had longish blonde hair, but tomorrow I have an appointment to get it all chopped off. Like serious short pixie style. Iīve never had short hair and am so excited. I might also change the color, or do new highlights. I hope I donīt look like a dork.

I think itīs really important to change your style, and feel as good outside as you do inside with your new body.

banananutmuffin 04-11-2012 08:19 AM

My husband and I have a deal: He keeps his military length, and I keep mine long. So my hair stays. lol

But my clothing style has changed, and continues to evolve. More short skirts, more cute dresses, more color (less black), more kitten heels. Just basically stuff that's more feminine and shows off my figure more. I finally feel good about my body, so I might as well enjoy it!

stimkovs 04-11-2012 08:30 AM

yes- i no longer feel the need to primp, and preen myself forever. my style has always been good- but now i feel like i wear plainer clothes with a little more colour, just throw it on, and it looks fantastic.

i have always worn 4inch+ heels, even at nearly 270 lbs when they hurt, now, i can wear them all day without a care. i wear less makeup, plainer jewelery, and feel much less materialistic - i no longer need to have the hottest styled clothing in order to be noticed, I am just noticed. so biggest change? confidence.

That's exciting! I don't have the courage to try the pixie do but have always wanted to. I bet it will look great!

I have definitely changed the way I dress, especially at work. We work in a
"business casual" office but I have been dressing more business - cute suits, both pants and skirts. I got rid of a ton of clothes this past weekend, I have no choice now but to dress nice! I have also been on a shoe kick, I got rid of most of my old ones and have added a bunch of new ones in the past year.

I could definitely use a new hairstyle. I have always been kinda a tomboy so I never really learned how to style my hair plus I am lazy. I have owned a hair straightener for the past 2 years and just used it for the first time this weekend

Natasha22 04-11-2012 10:19 AM

I was actually contemplating getting bangs. I have long hair and I really like it, but it can get boring, I feel like it has no dimension to it. So maybe bangs and a few layers. I'm also considering making it a brighter red. It had a reddish color now, but I want it to "pop" more, I would even go as far as dying it orange.

As for the clothes, lately I've getting into a younger looking style, bought a pair of light grey high converse shoes and I really want to get them in black as well. I've been also wearing flower head bans, I don't know what's up with that, maybe some inspiration from Lana del Rey? :)

I envy you! wish I had the hair for a pixie cut! If I get it cut short like that I'll wind up with an afro.

Thistleberry 04-11-2012 11:23 AM

I haven't changed my hair at all yet. Remains to be seen if I will when I get down to goal. It's funny though because if you looked at my starting pictures you would think I had indeed changed it. I've always had long red hair with sideswept bangs but right around my highest weight I decided to go shorter and brunette with full across bangs. I've since gone back to my original look.

My clothing style hasn't really changed but this is largely due to the fact that I haven't bought much any clothing. Necessities here and there, sure, but very, very few new dresses or pants. The few "new" things I have are different in style because they're hand-me-downs from my sister-in-law.

baker23 04-11-2012 11:44 AM

A few years ago, I chopped off a good portion of my hair, into a very short angled bob. Now I'm growing it out to donate (should be more then a foot and 1/2 by the time I'm done) and when I hit my goal, I'm chopping it into the same cut. Can't wait to see if it looks better on me..

Style wise, Definitely less use of black, and a bunch of color has ended up in my closet...seriously. I look like a freakin easter egg sometimes...but i love it. Alot of dresses and skirts, and shorts with cute tops, none of which would have ever been worn before. I wear heels sometimes which never happened when I was heavier...

I'm this way. The one time that I got to my lowest adult weight (in college and not the healthiest way, btw) I wore jeans and fitted t-shirts and didn't feel the need to wear heels and dresses as much. I was hot because my muscles were hot. ;)

I don't know that I'll get to that low of a weight again, but I'll certainly keep trucking, and will likely wear plainer clothes on a daily basis if I ever get there!

I have long-ish hair now, but when I was a teen I decided to cut my very long, very curly hair into a pixie. It was awesome!

Sometimes I'm tempted to go back, but maybe I'd go longer than before like this

fyreflie24 04-11-2012 12:34 PM

I'm still a ways to go but at the 50% mark I started messing around with different looks. The thinner I get, the closer I get to having straight across bangs (because my face is thinner), bolder colors and going back to wearing fun clothes. I'm having more fun with makeup too... I have a school function in a few weeks and I'm wearing a 'pinup' look about which I am super excited!

I love that!

summerlove 04-11-2012 12:49 PM

The slimmer I get the more I want to treat myself to new makeup, clothes, manicures, etc. But I suppose that's just me wanting to take better care of myself. I do have a tattoo and piercing planned (something I wouldn't have the guts to do 20 pounds ago) :)

Beach Patrol 04-11-2012 02:20 PM

I haven't changed my hair since "weight loss" - but AGING is what makes me want a change.

Such as....bangs to cover up forehead wrinkles or help hide crows feet (cause I can't afford botox, LOL)

However, I like my hair WITHOUT bangs (easier to maintain) so I haven't had bangs in quite a few years.

I prefer my hair long (shoulder length to bra-strap length) because I associate long hair with femininity. But I wore my hair short all thru college - and that was during the big-hair 80's trend... meh.

BUT - now that I've lost some weight & my face is not so "moonpie" shaped anymore, I do wear it pulled back more often. And some people seem to think that a ponytail (or braids) has a "youthful" appearance. I just know what works for me, and I drive a convertible so ponies & braids are good convertible hair. :D

Elladorine 04-11-2012 05:17 PM

I'm hiding behind my glasses less these days and actually started putting makeup on again when I go out. And as for hair, I just don't know yet. I liked "hiding" behind my hair when I was a teenager, which infuriated my mom. She'd make me cut it short and I hated it, since I felt so defenseless and exposed. I doubt I'd feel the same way once I reach a lower weight, but I think I've been rebelling ever since by letting my hair grow much longer. It's down to my waist right now, but needs a good trimming, maybe 6" or so. Not sure if I'll ever be ready to have short hair again.

I think my clothes will change gradually as I'm able to find more options as I get smaller. I'm still stuck in plus sizes and my stomach seems to be my central feature, so I'm not fond of clothes that cling to that area, which seems to be about everything. :dizzy:

aseret123 04-11-2012 08:42 PM

Yes! I'm currently growing out my hair, but by the time I'm done with the weight loss I'll probably be bored of it and go for something a little more daring :)

My clothing style will change a lot - I tend to stick to jeans and t-shirts at the moment as I feel too fat to wear the clothes I truly love. I actually adore fashion, but no one would ever know it from looking at my everyday clothes. I can't wait until I feel like I can wear the things I really want to!

kimminy 04-14-2012 07:08 PM

For style: I'm pretty low maintenance and I don't think that will change. I'll just be able to wear slightly hotter clothes since I'll be able to fit in more sizes. Yay! I'm pretty minimalist and classic with shots of radness.

For hair: I am the kind of person who will get sick of their hair and go to the bathroom and chop it off myself, so I have an obligation to change it up once in a while so I don't look like a weed wacker attacked my head. So who knows what it will be like when I lose more weight.

PS right now my hairs like a wonky asymmetrical style, like longer on one side of my head than the other. I kind of want straight across bangs or maybe asymmetrical bangs to go with the cut, not sure if that would be super weird looking? Hair grows back though! :)

runningfromfat 04-18-2012 11:33 AM

Most definitely! At my highest weight I put almost no effort into my appearance. I just wore all black and baggy clothes to cover my body.

As I've lost, I've gained a lot of confidence and now know about how bras are supposed to fit properly too. That radically changed my wardrobe because it made clothes shopping so much easier! Also, I found stores that catered to busty women so for once I could buy clothes that fit me well. ;)

I don't have a very big wardrobe yet being that I'm still not quite a goal but I've added a lot more color to my wardrobe and now wear well-fitting tops, which has changed the way I look quite a bit. I also love dresses now and have started to add a few to my collection. ;)

Teacher2B 04-18-2012 09:35 PM

I am already thinking of using skirts and dresses again, as well as shorts :3 My promise to my boyfriend is that when he arrives in December, I will be waiting for him at the airport in a beautiful blue summer dress =^.^=

Regarding hair, I don't plan to dye it, seeing as how I have been trying to get rid of the horrible red dye I used for about 18 months a few years ago (and now, after other 18 months, I am mostly a brunette again, with only a few streaks of red hair in the back of my head). I might let it longer and tie it, but I am not sure. Let's see how longer hair looks on me when I am thinner ^^

xirene 09-29-2012 11:46 AM

I've been growing my hair for the past 15 years and there is no way I am getting it cut! I'm still dyeing it bright red, but I've started to think I might try dip-dyeing the last few inches in a black temporary dye (like Manic Panic) to see how it looks. I've always wanted to dye it a really outrageous color, like hot pink, but never had the nerve!

kelly315 09-29-2012 12:18 PM

I'm growing my hair out, which already just past my shoulders, but I want it a little longer. I'm also wearing different things- like ankle boots with heels for example! I just ordered these: http://www.shoecarnival.com/shoe/Wom...ump&navCount=0

IsabellaOlivia 09-29-2012 03:39 PM

I've already started wearing different clothes. Gone from jeans and sweaters to dresses and tights. Though, I'm going to wait until I reach my goalweight before I splurge on a new wardrobe.

Kymish 09-29-2012 03:52 PM

In definitely planning a trip to the salon once I reach the 200 mark! ( I'm 244 today!)
I went to the salon last year to have the black lifted out and she fried my hair I'm still pulling chunks of hair out :( needless to say I'm back to black colored hair ad that's where in staying ! As for clothing I figure with winter coming and being a sahm I bought lots of stretchy clothes on clearance racks) sincd im not willing to spend a fortune on clothes that I hope to only be in for winter season ! Lol

1spunkygal 09-29-2012 04:33 PM

I go back & forth with my husband on this . I DO NOT plan on buying anything till I reach my goal (maybe some undies). I think it's a waste of $$ & winter is coming so my nice matching sweats will have to do . I wear hospital scrub uniforms so that won't be hard not to shop. I do want to wear bra's & panties in matched set's when i reach my goal. I plan on wearing bright bolder colors less black. When I do reach goal LL BEAN will profit big time I'm a casual gal. As far as my hair it is stick straight & short so not much you can do with it. If i were to perm it I look like a poodle after a while.

I have the nerve I would love bluish green but my job will NOT allow it :D

RoyalAthena 09-29-2012 06:58 PM

I'm excited. My hair is shoulder length and I am growing my hair out because I want to have layers and maybe a side sweep bang. When I get to goal of being in Onderland, I am thinking of starting to wear weaved hairstyles (which I would never have done!!) so that I can start trying different hairstyles. I dress girly right now skirts and heels But once I get to my 14/16 I will be wearing more color and jazzy shoes. After that when I am in Onderland and closer to goal I will wear "weirder" color combinations which is more my stlye (example stripes with polk-a-dots-if I want!)

I work from home, so it's just a matter of hearing my mother tell me that a 45 yr old woman has no business having hot pink hair, and dealing with the looks from strangers ;)

ChickieChicks 09-29-2012 07:31 PM

I finally wear the style I always wanted! I was never, and am still probably not, trendy. But as I gained weight and we moved so much with the Navy, my wardrobe got more and mired condensed. I usually had about two pairs of jeans, 4-5 pairs of shoes and t-shirts, Camis, etc. one or two "nice" things, for the once-a-year ess up event.

And then I lost the weight.....woo boy, did I have fun shopping! :)

I realized that since I felt good, I could look good, even if I was just running errands. I was never the type to go up in sweats or anything, but just nothing exciting. But now I love to shop. I do a lot of dressy casual, although I seem to be riding the edge between you ger outfits, and more mature clothing, f that makes any sense.

Garnet2727 09-29-2012 09:04 PM

This is something I wrote in February that I think is relevent here:

Inspiration can happen in the most mundane places. This morning, I shared a brief elevator ride with a woman who had stunningly beautiful hair. It was white, mixed with silver and it was long. Her hair glittered in the light of the elevator and it looked so soft...like silk. As I was behind her, she couldn't see me gaping at it, which I did until she got off the elevator. A few thoughts swirled around in my attic as I got off the elevator and went to my cubicle, the main thought being, "There goes a woman who flouts convention."

Her hair was neither dyed nor cut short as is the fashion of women of a "certain" age where I work. My own mother had beautiful silver hair sprinkled with bits of black. When my husband first met my mother and saw her hair, he just gaped. At the time, she also wore her hair long despite being in her sixties. Then, my own long hair had just a few sprinkles of silver and on that day he asked me to never dye my hair as long as we were together. It's been 18 years and now I've far more silver although I'm still mostly brunette and I haven't, nor shall I, dye my hair.

In this I will flout convention too. My hair will honestly show my age and my silver. I will not cover it up with dyes and now I'm inspired to let it grow. I cut my hair short years ago when it was damaged due to stress and other factors. Now? It's healthy and shiny albeit not taking well to the short styles I've tried to maintain over the years. I miss my long hair. I think I'll have it back. So as my weight diminishes, I'll let my hair grow. I'm reclaiming my own style.

Why is it that no matter how old we get or what we do in life...to our mothers, we will forever be stuck at about 12 years old? ;)

I have a woman who comes into the store I work at who's in her 40's. She has her hair different shades of blues, purples, and pinks. I love it and she looks awesome. Oh and there's the 80 some year old woman who comes in with lavender strikes through her hair.

I've always changed the way I look for no reason at other than I wanted too. And thinking back it really never lined up with weight gain or loss through out the years. Thinking back I loved every "phase."

novangel 10-10-2012 12:14 AM

My hair is long and black and I'm definitely buying some clip on dark red and maroon hair extensions. I don't care that I'm 38.
