Hi everyone, this is generally something I *never* like to talk about but this seems to be a safe place to do so. I've inherited cellulite ever since I was aboue 12 and am distraught at the idea that even after getting to an ideal weight, it will never go away. I've come to accept it but I still believe there are ways to minimize it and even reduce the appearance. And ideally without spending hundreds on endermologie/similar treatments.
But if anyone has been challlenged with this and has tried various things, whether they worked or not, would you be willing to share this here?
Well, when I start losing weight I notice that some of it goes away, not all of it though. A tip that really works is to wrap your most affected areas (thighs, belly) in plastic wrap and leave it overnight. It gets uncomfortable because you get really hot and sweat a lot, but that just means it works. Try applying some cellulite cream before wrapping yourself in plastic (in my experience, they all work the same, even the cheapest ones, as long as they have caffeine). It doesn't have to be thick plastic, go for the type you can find at grocery stores, used to wrap sandwiches.
I'm the same as you... I vividly remember being 12 years old at a dance competition, wearing only a leotard- when a few girls started making fun of my "cottage cheese butt". I hadn't ever even noticed it before- but I've been overly-self-conscious of it ever since! When I lose weight it goes away... But I had to get REALLY skinny before it was gone (120 lbs..and 16% body fat. Very small for my height). I DO notice though that building muscle in my legs & booty helps a lot also- when I'm in peak running season it starts to fade away. I also notice that a little bit of a tan goes a long way in disguising it... So- if anyone has better answers please share!!
Funny thing, I had more of it when I was "thin and young". I ate poorly, I also had gluten allergy which I did not know of. -- Now I don't eat any grain, and so many more fiber rich fruits and veggies; my cellulite is going away. I never believed that at the age of 44 I could possibly live low cellulite life
I think it is because I don't eat any grain. I was in great shape when I was young. I danced ballet and I was active. So it is not the exercise aspect. It has to be my diet?
I've never had it, not even at my weight but I do get evil stretch marks easily as they started when I was in 6th grade and only 100 pounds because my breasts grew quickly.
My daughter is the opposite, she's 5'5, 123 pounds and has some on her upper back thighs. She is toning now and uses Vichy cream and believe it or not that stuff is working for her.
Seems we are always hating on our bodies, it sucks!
okay, first off, you have to know what cellulite is: it's fat.
that's it. same stuff as you have on your tummy and under your chin and on your back. there is no difference. the human body only has two kinds of fat: brown, which is metabolically active and kicks in when regularly exposed to subzero temperatures (newborns have a whack of it bec they are so ill-equipped to regulate their own body temp) and white, which is the stuff we love to hate.
the reason it gets that cottage cheese appearance is bec of the way women's skin is attached. our skin is attached by ligaments that form round apertures. men, the apertures are hexagonal in shape, rather like a honeycomb. round is an unstable form - it allows the fat to bulge out.
the only way to reduce cellulite is to reduce body fat. if you want it GONE, gone, then it's liposuction.
wraps and steam treatments and spa type treatments will minimize the appearance the same way they make your boobs look bigger and fuller: by forcing the area to flush with water, thereby puffing out the skin. soon's you get cold, however, you're back to square one.
We all know Jillian Michaels right? EVEN SHE HAS CELLULITE!
Okay so do I actually, but I notice as I get small it starts to slowly disappear as well. It also depends on how I stan, some poses make it appear more, others make it gone...lol
