  • Quote: YAY FOR SHOES! Ok my suggestions:

    1) Flats - go with leather as they will stretch to accomodate wide feet. They are the best show ever because they look a little dressy, but casual and cute and more put together.

    2) Boots - go for little ankle boots if you are worried about them fitting over your calves, although if you go with leather again, they will stretch if they are a little snug.

    3) Oxfords! I'm surprised that no one mentioned these! They are very in right now, they are flat and comfy and look cute!

I have ankle boots, but I didn't think they'd work with a skirt. Maybe I'm wrong. I thought it might look weird, or too divided, to have a short chunk of leg showing between shoe and skirt. I think I'd have the same problem with the oxfords. Maybe if I had skinny little lets, but I don't, ya' know?
  • Quote: A nice option is "ballerina flats" you can get them dressed up with designs/jewels or more sporty.

first thing that popped into my mind also! you can try torrid.com they have wide widths, a bit expensive but they last forrrevvverrr!

You're right... ankle boots would probably look awkward with anything but a long skirt or long pants, especially with an ample calf (I have large calf muscles too!).

Some ballet flats with thick tights or ankle length leggings would work well. I live in central Texas, so I don't have to worry about cold, cold weather though so I don't have a great frame of reference! Could you have a pair of snow-boots to wear outside and then change into your flats once you get to your destination? I don't know how practical that is...

    Good luck!
  • They're kinda pricey, but I love these little Birkenstock half-clogs, and they run wide - I'm a size 10 wide or double wide, and I can wear the narrow or regular width in these - http://www.birkenstockcentral.com/in...aria&pageId=41 They look really cute with knee-length skirts, too!

I'm also a fan of Dansko clogs, and I've worn mine plenty in the snow and muck.

I meant the boots/oxfords for tights weather! If you wear opaque dark tights and a dark shoe it will lengthen the leg a lot. I see lots of trendy girls doing this and not all of them are skinny minnys!

oh, haha! I was picturing a knee length skirt, bare legs and then boots. Tights would be cute.
  • I have never ever been able to wear boots. I would be so thrilled to finally fit my thick calves in a pair... Maybe when I get to goal.
  • Don't worry about Zappos - return shipping is free. I return waaaaay more shoes than I keep from there. I usually order 4 pair and keep 1. You are just out the $ on your credit card for a week or two.

I can't wait to be able to wear boots!
  • So I went home last night and dragged out all my shoes and tried this and that. I don't have tight, so I'll have to get some before I can really tell what works and doesn't. I do have some very thin ballet flats. I think they looked ok, but not perfect. I may give them a try. My ankle boots looked better than I expected with a skirt, although in typical me fashion, I was had on bright turquoise t-shirt that I'd worn yesterday, the first skirt I found to throw on which is black and brown and colorful and I can't describe it but doesn't go with turquoise, bare legs and the boot and then stood back to see how it looked. And I wonder why I can't tell!
