Do you put on makeup before going to the gym?
My friend was making fun of people who put on make up before going to the gym. I get the joke. If you're gonna sweat, why bother, right?
But I do. Every time. I wake up at 4:15 am to teach boot camp and shower and put my make up on. I refresh my make up if I'm working out in the evening. I put make up on (not a lot) before my 9 mile run outside yesterday, and I knew I wouldn't even see anyone close up!!! Why?! Do you know how much money I'd save if I didn't? LOL So what is your preference and why? |
I never wear makeup when I work out. I belong to an all women's gym and I just go makeup free in sweats and a t-shirt. I don't wear makeup to workout b/c the mascara gets in my eyes and I feel like my foundation would clog my pores.
|
I pass on it. There are times that I have but have decided that I prefer not to. I love my makeup 100% of the other time, but I figure it's probably not great to clog my pores with a nice makeup/sweat combo. That said I try to never wear glasses to the gym...prefer contacts...so I can wipe my whole face when I'm sweaty.
|
I don't actively put on makeup before working out, but if I already have it on then I don't take it off. So I may look like a person who puts on makeup before going, but really it's from earlier in the day.
I really prefer how I look with makeup on... but I can't bring myself to put on makeup solely for the gym. It makes me feel... fake, sort of. |
I will often put on tinted moisturizer or powder, but not always. If I'm coming from somewhere else, then I usually do have a little make up on. I'm not really a fully made up kind of gal for every day stuff though.
However, I always brush my teeth, even if I already brushed them that morning. If I didn't shower the night before, I do shower before I go. I have lots of friends there and don't want anyone to see me with greasy hair lol |
The only time makeup is on my face when I go to the gym is because I'm coming from work. I don't apply make up more then once a day. I do it in the morning and thats it. I make fun of people who put makeup on before the gym and usually the girls that do is because they're not sweating it off they're just there to look pretty to see how much penis they can get. LOL most of the time anyways.
|
I like to still leave with some mascara on, some nice stud earings, maybe some lip balm.
Usually i gym in the evening, so I will have some on already. Then again, I never wear foundation - just lips and eyes. |
To put makeup on before working out to me seems pointless if you sweat a good deal. I have never put it on but if I had some on I don't go out of my way to get rid of it.
|
Mascara. Always. But I won't leave the house and go anywhere without it on. My hubby jokes that he could be dying and I would still put mascara on before taking him to the hospital.
|
No, I don't. I work hard and sweat.
|
I work out in the morning two or three days a week- so no makeup then.
I also workout EVERY night after work.. I take my face makeup off with a cleansing wipe before I work out. My mascarra, I leave on.. If I am not sweating at the gym, then why am I even there?! Dunno about you gals but, one of the BEST feelings to me is being completely drenched in sweat after I busted my A$$ at the gym.. If I leave my makeup on (and I do wear foundation, powder, and bronzer/blush) then that mixes with sweat and clogs my pores and I break out something terrible!! |
Although I usually wear make up all the time, I don't wear make up at the gym cause I'd feel like it clogs my pores.
|
I don't put on makeup for the gym and sometimes choose not to wear makeup, period. I like my "raw" face and my made-up face equally well. :)
I wouldn't dream of making fun of people who do apply makeup before the gym, though, nor would I assume that they're just looking to hook up with someone. My ex-sister-in-law wouldn't leave the house without makeup because she had a crippling fear of people seeing her "acne" (she never had bad skin, or at least not as bad as she believed it to be). If someone finds that a little slap helps her self-confidence, I say wear it--but be choosy about the kind you wear, because full-face makeup can certainly gum up the pores and make a mess of your towel. |
I don't wear make up very much at all. My grandma told me every single day that I was so much prettier without all that make up so I seldom put any on. But, even when I do, I don't wear it to the gym. Bad idea. It can clog up your pores and break out your face. Not a good thing.
|
I put on a hat or a bandana before I go to the gym. That's it. There's no point, to me, in putting any effort into my face or hair when I'm just going to sweat.
|
Nope. I sweat it all off and if I don't take it off before my workout, I end up looking like a raccoon because my mascara has melted all around my eyes!
|
If I work out first thing in the morning, no.
If I work out in the evening, after work, when a lot of classes are held at my gym, then yes, because I put on makeup for work. Recently, in fact, I had to give some thought to the makeup question. One of the young, beautiful girls who works the front desk at my gym -- that's the only type they seem to hire ;-) -- covered for a coworker's evening stint for a change. This girl is usually working only mornings. So she got to see me walk in, wearing full "work drag." She blurted out: "You look so good in make-up! You should always wear it!" I laughed at the time, but on reflection, afterward, thought: Ouch, ouch, ouch. And I actually debated whether I ought to start putting something on. As I was debating, I took a good look around me at the women at my gym. Lots of them wear makeup to class. Lots & lots of them. It has to do with the demographic that my gym primarily targets. Anyway, I haven't, so far. BTW, personally, I don't find that makeup clogs my pores. My skin is better now than it's ever been. Maybe my changed nutrient intake, my increased water intake,my annoyingly time-consuming skin care regimen or my calmed-down hormones (who knows?) have offset the combination of sweat & liberally applied water-based foundation. And I do sweat like a horse, so it's not that I just glow or don't work very hard at the gym. |
Last week, after a Zumba class, I noticed that one of the ladies had sparkly eye shadow on and a bright red lipstick. She looked very nice (dark, almost black hair). I thought, maybe I should put more effort into my appearance before I go to the gym.
Then reality quickly kicked in. As saef says, "I sweat like a horse", especially when I am doing cardio. My Zumba class is very, very fast paced and because I am very fair-skinned, I usually end up with a red face (heart attack, here I come!) afterwards. Also, I swear that the amount of sweat I produce on my entire body is only a fraction of what I produce on my face. I sweat terribly around my hairline and in Zumba, I do need to have a small towel to wipe off my face in between songs. So, my makeup consists of mascara only (which I have on anyway). Surprisingly enough, even though I sweat in my face so much and the mascara is not water resistant, it does not smudge. It's the cheapo Maybelline mascara (pink tube with a lime green top). |
I go to the gym afterwork. I take my make up off before working out because I want to keep my skin in good condition for as long as I can. I'm in my 30s now and can't get away with neglecting my skin.
I'm not going to the gym to find a husband. Now if a nice guy actually approaches me at the gym for a date, then I'm all for it. If he likes the way I look without make up on and he'll love the way I look with it on. :) |

I go to the gym straight from work, so yes, I already have makeup on. I leave it on. I sweat a lot, but I use good makeup and it stays on. As soon as I get home I take it off, wash my face, and moisturize. My skin has never looked better. On the weekends when I go to zumba straight from home, yes, I put on a little something--mostly just eyes and lips. I do it for me, because I want to. Not because I feel like I have to.
|
well if i haven't done anything prior to that, such as going to school or work then nope. but if i do have work then workout then yes, but i find my pores do
|
F4L - I've hesitated to reply but I shall, as you've said you're here to listen and learn.
Response starts. :lol3: Of course not! I don't wear makeup anyway so I wouldn't to the gymn. Thinking of all the women I see at the gymn, I can only think of two who do. And one is a trainer. A number of gymn rats have commented that they find it odd behaviour. This is a different part of the forest here, though, and we're probably more casual or relaxed about things. Response ends. No offence, I hope. :) |
I use high quality mineral makeup
as a sun screen. It seems to look even better after I've sweated a bit. And my pores look good, no break outs.
|
I always wear make up and will reapply before going to the gym. I am horribly self conscious and just feel naked without it.
I only wear foundation and chapstick. No mascara, eye shadow, lipstick or anything else unless it was there from earlier in the day. It's not to impress anyone as I'm married with two kids and definitely not looking to score. I would just be too self conscious without it to really focus on my work out. It likely doesn't make that much difference it's just my security blanket. |

my sister as well wears makeup to the gym, i refuse to. it doesn't help your skin, causes breakouts.

As for make up, I'd never intentionally wear it to the gym but if I happen to be wearing some from the daytime I don't bother removing it. But I don't wear much anyways.:) |
Great responses! NO offense taken, btw.
Saef - I wear that waterproof mascara and agree it rocks! Two things: 1. I have transparent eye lashes - very long, but so blonde you can't see them. Mascara and a tiny bit of eye liner make my blue eyes existent! Also, my eyebrows are blonde as well. When I was younger and blonder, my brother called me "no brow" but at least they're browner now and you can see them. I do not put make up on my eyebrows, but my point is, when it comes to my eyes, they fade into my skin color without makeup. Add to it, I have an unfortunate vein that many mistake for purple bags. If I don't wear concealer make up, people often ask me if I have a black eye. So all I wear is concealer (only Laura Mercier will do - and only under the eyes so no blemish concerns, but I have been blessed with blemish free skin 90% of the time.) and mascara with a little liner. Alas, it still is considered wearing make up. 2. I overslept today. I usually open the gym at 5:15 am for 5:30 open time. I got a call at 5:39 am. I was sound asleep and my boot camp class starts at 5:45!!!! I live 8 minutes from the gym. I jumped into my clothes and arrived at 5:58. No make up on. No one said a thing. Not even a "you look so different without make up" comment. Will it change my habit? No. Why? Coz often life gets away from me and when I leave the gym, I gotta live my life with no time to put my face on. I guess I am vain. Or....not married and putting my best face on for any possibilities. |
I see lots of women with full make up at the gym. They don't sweat like I do, though! I'm all about looking great but the gym is not somewhere I go out of my way. I'm there to work out, nothing more. I shower as soon as I get home so it would be a waste anyways.
|
Nope, but often a little bit lingers since I work out after work. When I go on a Sat, I go au natural.

And yes, I am aware that this it the weapon of choice of many professional make-up artists. |
I think it is funny when women have their hair all curled and it is down when they are at the gym.
I look like h3ll at the gym!!! I have showered before going because I was just that dirty, and once I went after a long night at the bar, but most of the time, no make up! I will even wash my foundation off. Mascara can stay, but don't want to clog my pores. As someone else put, I am not here for a husband and if a guy can ask me out looking that rough, he will appreciate me when I do "clean up." I am normally dripping in sweat and bright red when I leave anyways, make up won't help at that point lol |
I have dark circles that make me look like a zombie so I use concealer and mascara before the gym. Wouldn't want to scare anybody! Really though, I just feel more comfortable when I look awake.
|
I usually try to go to the gym first thing in the morning. To accomplish that, I sleep in my workout clothes and roll right out of bed! :-) If I work out after work, I don't make the effort to remove my make up.
Basically, I don't put any on just to go but to each their own. |
I don't go to the gym, but I can relate to making sure my face looks decent before heading off on a run around town. I live in a rice paddy and the only people who ever see me out are little old people who probably fought in WWII, but I still feel a little weird going anywhere outside the house without my safety buffer of black eyeliner.
|
Hello all friends how are you?
Well in my point of view if you are going to the gym then put a little meek up like blush on or eye liner sort of thing,It looks cool when you are doing your exercise.. |
Uh, I wear make up like once a twice a month. So no, it would never occur to me to wear makeup to exercise.
|
Nope, no make-up at all here. My dermatologist told me it's bad for the skin (break out wise) to sweat (okay, not the act of sweating, but the act of letting sweat stay on your face too long creating food for the bacteria), but make-up on top makes it a lot worse -- and I am 40 and prone to acne, so heck no. I have no qualms about it at all, I'm not there to look pretty or whatever, and I think it would make me MORE self conscious to worry about getting more acne, having my make-up melt & run and being laughed at (I hear people doing that pretty regularly - other women AND men). I work out at a huge YMCA - so lots of men and women.
|
I don't, but I don't wear any makeup to work either. I work for a veterinarian, and give a lot of dog baths. By the time, I been licked, water shook on, flying slobber, etc., it's a losing battle to wear make up. I save that for the weekends.
