I'm in the group who, if I have it on because I was wearing it earlier in the day, then yes I wear make up to the gym, but I've never intentionally put it on to go work out. I only wear make up about once a week when I go out at night anyway, so it's a rare occurence. I've been using Bare Minerals for about 6 years, I can't stand regular foundation and the thought of sweating with it on just grosses me out. The Bare Minerals doesn't clog my pores or get cakey if I sweat though.

Mickeypnd 05-17-2011 08:17 PM

no. my gym clothes come from Goodwill. lmao

finn 05-18-2011 05:50 AM

nope - I'm there to do my thing...not strut my stuff! :-)

stacygee 05-20-2011 08:38 PM

I was wearing makeup for a while because I have been self conscious about bags under my eyes and the amount of attention my weightloss has been garnering. Then I noticed that I sweat so much it wasn't staying on very long so I quit. Also, noone said I looked better b/c of the makeup. All the compliments are still about the weightloss.

AshleyLaurent 05-21-2011 09:53 AM

No. But if I had make-up on before, I won't take it off. I like to sweat and if I sweat my make-up off, then that means I had a good workout!

nessalyn 05-22-2011 01:36 PM

If I go after work, I already have makeup on, I usually don't have the time to wash it all off before I go anyways.
However, on my days off I'll go in the morning I do admit to putting some powder on and mascara. I just feel better having it on.

This is what I love about my womens' gym. There is something very safe about working out there. It is a haven from being judged! Plus - they have a spa there. Nothing like a facial to get me to show up at the gym.

IDK if it's just me, or maybe we're blessed with awesome clients at my gym, but I don't think anyone is judging anyone else in the gym. I see people helping others who are new. I also see people who aren't new ask others for help. We fitness trainers instruct people, but are in no way being judgemental. Everyone there wants everyone else to be safe and successful.

Not saying this is you, but I think a major obstacle people have with gyms is this incorrect notion. I write this to encourage people to get over that hurdle and just show up regularly and soon that thought won't even be in your mind.

LA85 05-24-2011 12:30 PM

I LOVE makeup.. but when working out in the AM I don't put makeup on b/c im literally drenched and I just wont look all that attractive anyway with a sweaty *** n hair anyways lol... I think if you wake up early morning and you have insecurity or just want to look more awake then just add concealer n water proof mascara and that will make you look more awake :)

In the PM when i go to the gym, whatever I have from the day , I just leave it on and work out.. it will come off when im wiping off my sweat anyways

AlligatorSky 05-27-2011 03:40 AM

Well, even though I know it is quite a silly idea to wear makeup to the gym, I do it anyways. But, I use a whole lot less than I would on a regular basis. lol, I use foundation and powder and maybe just a very small amount of eyeliner, because I figure if I wore more than that, I'd end up looking like a racoon, lol.

But, as I said before, even though I wear makeup to the gym, I still think it's rather silly.

EDIT: @LA85 I never thought about using waterproof mascara, thanks for the tip!

GonnaTurnHeads 06-01-2011 05:47 PM

YES! I do!!! I put on make up and sometimes, if my hair is really dirty, I will wash it and dry it THEN go to the gym.

I think its important, regardless of if I am going to get sweaty, to put my best and cleanest self first.

An extra shower a day isn't a bad thing and the make up makes me feel better about ME which helps give me the boost to go to the gym.

Stopfat 06-03-2011 10:48 AM

I don't put makeup on before working out, but I totally think that feeling confident on one's appearance helps the workout session.
If putting makeup on makes you feel more confident, there is nothing wrong with that--it's just jealousy or nitpicking on your friend's part.

We women hate the girl who we think looks better than us. It's as if she is raising the bar for us all.
For example: It peeves me to see the girls who jog on the side of the road in only a sports bra and tiny, underwear sized shorts--or if they are doing yoga in my husband's yoga class in almost nothing ---! But really, it's my problem! (and putting makeup on before working out is nowhere near distracting as jogging in underwear). Most people probably don't even notice when people wear makeup during exercise.

Whatever boosts your confidence--and it isn't really anyone else's business what you put on your face.

No, "we women" do not. You do, apparently, but that's far from a universal and I think that's an incredibly misogynist opinion to be expressing.

From where I sit, the size of your butt and the appearance of your face are entirely unrelated to the size of my butt and the appearance of my face. Attractiveness and beauty are not zero-sum.

FWIW I run without makeup and I choose my running gear by function more than looks. "Function" includes shorts ("gym" not "bike") when it's above around 45 degrees, and bare arms above around 50. If you think I'm trying to appeal to your partner or to make you look bad in comparison, that's your issue, not mine.

ButterflySam 06-10-2011 01:31 AM

When I go to the gym in the evenings I don't bother taking my makeup off. But if I'm going in the morning before I've had any makeup on, I will sometimes put some powder on my face. I just feel better with some foundation powder on when I'm walking through the gym doors. I know I sweat it off anyway, but it makes me feel a little more prepared. I always wear at least foundation when I am going out though, I feel my face is too red without it.

Annita 06-11-2011 03:49 AM

no, i don't wear makeup when I work out. Not at all. If I already have it on, i'll wash my face and then work out. Even mascara. Well i already wash my face so what's the point of keeping the mascara i mean. :D

And i'm the type of girls who cannot leave the house without makeup. Just not for working out - gym or not.

And last thing, I LOVE my red glowing face with whole lots of sweats after working out. It might just me but yeah, I just love love love it :D

IsobelRose22 11-17-2011 03:14 AM

a bit of concealer and waterproof mascara.

sontaikle 11-17-2011 07:31 AM

I don't wear makeup period. I have my own reasons for not doing so, but I never wear it and I really don't care what other people think.

Jonsgurl0531 11-17-2011 08:06 AM

No I don't wear makeup at the gym. I sweat so much that I wipe my face on the little towel I bring all the time. I would end up looking like a raccoon. I don't dress up either... If my hair is gross when I wake up I just put it up... hey its going to be nasty half way through my workout anyway. My clothes sometimes don't match and sometimes I forget to shave my legs.. LOL I go to the gym for me... not to look pleasant to everyone else.

This is exactly what i do!

jenjulia 12-01-2011 11:34 AM

I put on makeup in the morning to take my kids to school and then wash it off before going to the gym. I sweat so much that it would just look like a canvas painting that's been exposed to a rainstorm. Blech. I don't clean off my eye makeup (waterproof mascara and sometimes a little eyeliner) and I wear a colored lip gloss or lipstick because I feel naked without something on my lips.

InsideMe 12-01-2011 03:36 PM

I use to cause my skin was so bad. But since getting deeper into my workouts and increasing my water, my skin is so much better I don't have to! I'm feeling pretty without it now :) Now I just dab the coverup on my zit (if I have one) before I go haha

Mimzzy 12-01-2011 05:03 PM

I don't wear make up when working out and if I'm wearing make up I wash my face before starting. The only reason for this is because whenever I work out with make up it ends up running down my face so I look like a clown and clogging my pores causing a terrible break out.

I don't. I envy women who are fitter than me, but I don't hate them.

enpointe12 12-03-2011 09:50 AM

putting makeup on sorely to go to the gym doesn't make any sense to me. You're just going to sweat it off, and it'll just be uncomfortable! Even when I have makeup on from before, I always wash it off before I workout

DesertTabby 12-03-2011 03:36 PM

Admittedly I don't put anything when going to the gym, no concealer, no mascara; maybe lip balm due to my lips drying while doing cardio (I guess that means I need more water intake!) I would sweat everything else off otherwise and I figure its not polite to leave make-up stains on their towels. :P Although to be fair my make up is a mess even in the best of conditions so my day to day use is limited to lipstick/tinted lip balm and concealer.

Un Cochon 12-03-2011 03:50 PM

Going out without make-up feels like I'm headed out naked, so any time I leave the house I toss some on. Nothing extreme, just some cover up for my acne.

lin43 12-03-2011 03:54 PM

Nope--definitely not. I sweat too much to do that, and besides, I really don't care much how I look at the gym. I'll leave looking like crap anyway, so why should I gussy up if my make-up will sweat off within 30 minutes or so?

rainydays 12-03-2011 05:35 PM

Same--sweat takes it off, makes me break out, etc. I've looked quite frightening at the gym actually!

brianna1212 12-03-2011 10:51 PM

I usually put make up every time I leave the house. I got used it. I put make up when I go to the store, to go to school, gym or work.

GlamourGirl827 12-04-2011 09:50 AM

Nope! I don't wear make-up regularly. I'll put it on for special occasions, but I can easily go months, especially over the summer, without wearing it. Definitely NEVER before working out. I don't give a fly hoot what anyone at the gym thinks. Or in the supermarket. Or whatever. I don't like feeling a layer of stuff on my face all day, and feeling like I can't touch my face, because I might smear something. My husband has a holiday party for work next week, and I'll wear it then. Because I do care what his colleges think. But just like i wouldn't wear dress clothes to workout (or throughout the day), I wouldn't wear make-up.
Besides, my skin is super clear when I'm make-up free. A few too many applications in a week, and I break out.

ncuneo 12-04-2011 10:42 AM

Holy cow with how much I sweat are you kidding me! I head to the gym after work and I actually take OFF my makeup when I get there! This is going to sound awful, but when I see women at the gym with makeup on I just don't feel like they are taking their work out seriously. I know that's not true, but I have some pretty bad adult acne breakouts sometimes and I still won't wear make up and I know I look scary! But I guess like I said it wouldn't matter because it would just sweat of and probably break me out more.

ilovemo 12-17-2011 10:39 PM

I usually don't bc i go in the morning.. but sometimes if i go when i know there will b alot of traffic.. i sometimes do.

BettyBooty 12-19-2011 01:06 PM

I use only mascara and lip gloss, and a light dusting of loose powder, and I have to make sure to remove the mascara before working-out because if I sweat and it runs into my eyes, it burns. IT BURNS!!!!

Love handles well 12-19-2011 08:59 PM

I always wear mascara, it just makes me feel awake and alert! But nothing else, I would just feel silly :)

baker23 12-24-2011 02:49 AM

Nah. I don't really wear makeup anyways let alone when I go to they gym. Usually before I leave the house, i'll put on concealer and a little eyeliner. By the time I hit the gym, both are prob gone. I seriously dislike the feel of makeup on my skin, and wouldn't work out with it on, if I did wear it, because it seems like it causes breakouts...:P Not worth it to look pretty when your walking in. Besides....I sweat so much when I workout. Anything I put on would be off in 5 minuntes xD

PollifaxFive 12-26-2011 02:17 PM

I never wear makeup anyway, but I probably wouldn't go to the gym with makeup if I did. Too sweaty! Then again, I also have a don't-talk-to-me policy in the gym unless I see a friend briefly or come WITH a friend. On that note (although I do understand that makeup is as much for oneself as it is for guys or girls!) I can't understand women who say that they use the gym as a meeting place for guys. When I'm on that machine, working out, I'm physically stressed & focused on sweating. Worst time to talk to me!

Cucumber Blossom 01-23-2012 01:04 AM

I have pretty sensitive skin, so I tend to think that if I don't rid my face of makeup prior exercising, I'll get a ton of acne come the next day.

ma26 01-23-2012 01:22 AM

Not to say there arent some pretty hot men at the gym (cause there most definitely sometimes are). But makeup at gym? Oh no no no no no! Thats terrible for the skin and if I do that then I HAVE to wear makeup the rest of the time to cover up the breakouts form the sweat mixing with makeup. Now I sweat a ton, and if I dont why am I there?

I'm married so maybe this is easy for me to say. I have no reason to impress anyone. But even in my singleton days I was never a makeup gymmer.

I go to the gym to look GOOOOOD the times I am not there.

jeminijad 01-23-2012 05:00 PM

God no.

And I didn't when I was single, either. I don't wear foundation, anyhow.

Energizer Jamie 01-23-2012 05:22 PM

I never wear make-up at the gym because it will get ruined anyways (if I'm working out properly, that is). If I absolutely feel I MUST wear something, I go for eyeliner because it makes a big difference without getting in the way to much. Just have to be careful not to smear it when I wipe my face off with my towel.
