Everytime I deviate from the following regime, acne comes back with a vengeance. I have success with Burt's Bees acne cleansing gel (only 1% salicylic acid; if I use a higher solution, it's too harsh, and if I use none, my regime is ineffective), followed by a 1% benzoyl peroxide product (Clearisil, Neutrogena, Clean & Clear, or a generic, but again the percentage is key to not getting your skin too dried out). In the morning, I also use an extremely gentle, sensitive-skin moisturizer like Cetaphil or just dab a little organic jojoba oil only on any dry patches. Jojoba oil on oily skin is healing in small doses and really gets rid of old redness and acne scars. In the evening, instead of the moisturizer I splurge and use a fairly generous amount of Philosophy's Hope in a Jar moisturizer/exfoliator product. This stuff has been an absolute godsend for me. It's a little pricey, but it lasts a long time and really does wonders for cell turnover, old scar reduction, redness reduction, and even the reduction of fine lines.
Nothing I do, even the combination above, really combats oily skin, but as I've gotten older, I'm okay with having a "youthful glow." It's the big red blemishes I'm way more worried about keeping at bay. With the above process, my breakouts are few and far between, but unfortunately now it's all about reducing the appearance of scarring from old pimples.
