Default Getting rid of fat clothes?

Hello out there! I'm not sure if this belongs here or not, but I was wondering what everyone else is doing with their clothes that are now too big. I have been tearing up my closet for the last 2 days, and I have a ton of stuff that is too big for me now. Should I take it to the Goodwill? I guess I'm just anxious that something will happen (like an unplanned pregnancy) and I will be kicking myself for giving away all my stuff. I don't plan on going back to eating unhealthy. I'm really happy with the diet I am on. Some of my "fat clothes" are relatively new, and in pretty good shape. I would hate to have to buy all new clothes if I ever need to. What are you all doing?

TIA!

I threw them all out. Every. Last. Item. I kind of wish in a way I kept my fattest pair of jeans so I could compare sometimes, and other times am glad that I got rid of them so I couldn't feel ashamed everytime I seen them on how fat I used to be. I have huge self esteem issues right now so that's where that stems from. I'd say send them to Goodwill. If you get pregnant, go to Goodwill and get maternity clothes then.

Yeah, you're right. I guess, as long as I have the money, I can always buy more clothes.

Congrats on your weight loss, BTW!!

I'd say if you aren't ready just yet then keep some and give away/trash the rest. I mean if you are trying to get pregnant I'd hesistate to get rid of some items.

I boxed up my clothes and as soon as I got a full box I donated them. I recently donated 2 huge boxes of clothes but many of them were clothes I wouldn't be wearing if I were thin enough to anyways lol. The others were all huge stuff I definitely knew I wasn't going back to.

Well, I'm definitely not trying to get pregnant, but the possibility is still there. I gave away all of the stuff that I would never wear again. I guess I just need to think about this.

As long as you have the fat clothes in your house, you subconscious is saying she's going to gain it all back and need those clothes. Get them out of your house now!

Yeah, that is a good point, Quilter. I guess I am a bit worried about that, too.

I organized a clothing swap with my friends and family. It was fun and cost nothing Then, if your weight fluctuates or anything, you can simply organize another swap.
I found out that I wasn't the only one of my friends who had clothing ranging from XS to 2X, just to cover my bases

Hey, Ashley Rae, that is a good idea. Hmmm. I might have to really consider that. Most of my friends are skinnier than me, though. I have always been the "fat one." But, that is an excellent idea. I like it!

Giving mine to Goodwill! I agree with everyone else, get rid of them. If something should happen, just buy new clothes. I am saving 1 outfit! It is an outfit I am wearing in a pic, that I am doing before and after photos with. LOL

I have clothes ranging from 0 - 8 -- not as much of a range, but still substantial. I think it's worth keeping a few pieces that are in good condition and high-quality, to do one of two things with:

1. Restyle: oversized shirts, sweaters, & sweatshirts are the rage right now. If you have nice tops 4-6 sizes too big, try wearing them with a cinch belt.

2. Alter: Other things you love, get tailored to fit your new body -- in different interesting styles if necessary. The result will be gorgeous, and more importantly, will remind you of why you love being thinner than you were before.

Save one pair of pants for comparison IF that kind of thing works for you, and tummy-tent shirts for pregnancy if you see yourself wearing them in the future. Donate or swap the rest.

Thanks for all the great ideas! Good points to consider. I guess there are some dress clothes I could have altered. Hmm. If I had a job, I would feel more secure about giving stuff away. I've been looking for a year and still nothing.

The favorites went to friends and/or Goodwill. The majority of worn out/ugly/junk went to the trash. A few of the "not to be seen in public" again clothes went into a work in yard/painting pile.

At my age no chance of pregnancy and I didn't want any safety clothes in the house. This worked out really well in the post holiday period where every pair of pants was getting tight. Focused my attention back on my workouts even though the scale wasn't reporting any gain yet. If I'd had a bigger pair of pants, I'd have been wearing them and saying to myself "I'll get back on my exercise plan next week".

I'm all about staying frugal and My husband and I are planning on trying for our first child next year, so I bought a storage tub, labeled it Maternity and I'm throwing all of my too big clothes in there!

Sounds like a good way to build up your closet with smaller clothes!

I kept the biggest pair of jeans that I was wearing and one of the biggest shirts. I still have all my summer stuff packed away, even though it will all be too big when summer rolls around. I'll deal with that when I'm doing the seasonal wardrobe switch.

I agree with others that having those bigger clothes to fall back to would be dangerous for me to have around.

As for frugality, remember that you don't need to buy an entire new wardrobe right now. I keep changing sizes and will for a while, so I buy a couple of new things at a time and add them to my closet. I've stuck to basics while I'm constantly changing sizes and I'm using accessories like scarves and jewelry to keep my looks fresh and different. You can find some wonderful things in thrift stores if you have the time and patience to weed through the racks regularly.
