I have always had large arms. At my best My arms were still huge, just not as full...more like wings with popeye/gunshow forearms. I just noticed today that my arms looked a little smaller. Still big, but closer to 17" at the widest instead of a solid 18" and down from the 19ish starting point.
Does anyone do inthing interesting to give their arms a little bit of a workout? Or coping with large arms?
I also have large arms - weight just doesn't seem to come off them like it does the rest of my body. They run in my family. grrrrrr.
One thing I've noticed is that OTHER people don't notice.
I've added in some arm strength training (in addition to my cardio-walking/jogging). I don't notice a difference, but my muscles have never taken well, on the outside, to toning.
That leaves me with coping. Its really only difficult in summer, where I feel my arms are on display for the world to see.
I would like to see how my arms would look if I were 135/140. I've never been that low. I'm wondering if, at that point, they would be thin - as it would be the LAST place for the fat to come off.
Probably not. Instead, you would see a bony rib cage sticking out of my shirt!
Well, nobodies perfect! But, I really sympathize with your pain.
My advice: just stop looking at them, stop dwelling on them. No one else sees your arms as negatively as you do.
Jillian Michaels is helping me to get my arms into shape. I Shred with her every day and I add an additional mini-set to the end which includes 15 push ups. (I'll do more when I can! At least I'm doing them right for the first time EVER!!!) I'm slowly seeing progress.
Coping? I wear long sleeves all year long. Is that coping?
Oh, I should add that I'm only using 3 pound weights. I may move to 5 lb later, but I've been using 3 for months now. You don't need a lot of weight to see a difference.

Reason: Added bit about weights
I also have very hugh arms.....However since I started losing weight I do notice a significant difference.... The arms just take longer than anywhere else......I suggest using your arms as much as you can so you can burn up some of the stored fat. I hope this helps......
Big 'ole arms here. Yuck. As they deflate, I'm getting serious bat wings. I am seriously considering having them "done" when I'm finished. Quite the trade off though, majorly long scar or skin that flaps in the wind? Hmmm...
i have the "bat wings" as well. mine is from losing muscle, getting bigger then losing weight again. too much for my skin to handle i guess. i'm going to start doing strength training on my arms as well as cardio for the rest of the weight, and hopefully i will see improvements on the bat wings and i won't fly away in the wind. lol
I'm with katkitten, I have stretch marks on mine from my elbows to my shoulders so a scar from plastic surgery would hardly embarass me. I have ginormous arms, I havn't measured, but I feel like they are as big as my legs. I have not worn tank tops or short sleeve shirts in over 8 years. Even in 100 degree weather.
I'm with both of you mango 30 & katkitten...I do wear short sleaved shirts, but rarely sleaveless. I not only not that comfortable, but i also don't want people checking out my sideboob.
Take a look at this picture (it's a contestant from a past episode of The Biggest Loser. Look at the picture on the left - can you, especially on the right side, how he has a fold of skin under his arm? (As if his boob continued there).
It's my guess that that's what was meant by a "sideboob".
This thread has me cracking up. I have big arms. I also have some pretty gnarly scarring on one of them due to an accident when I was younger. The skin on that arm is wrinkled and twisted in places, so I have not gone sleeveless since that accident. I'm working on weight training right now, and I've been working my arms and upper back twice a week for - a whopping two weeks now!! - and working my lower back and core for the same length of time, but 3 times a week. I am noticing that things are starting to look less "puffy".
Having failed at determining a goal weight, I am trying to determine body goals instead. One of those goals is to get rid of my pudgy elbows. We'll see how it goes.
I have large arms, I have stretch marks and loose skin as well. I still wear short sleeves and sleeveless. I really don't care what someone else might think.
I'll have to see how they turn out in the end whether I'd want surgery. I'm a bit surgery phobic though. Meg showed me her skin removal surgery scars (in person) and they didn't look that bad, especially her arm ones.
