What do you use for salicylic acid? DH has psoriasis and gets these HUGE bottles of stuff called ReSal Cream which I use all the time - really helps the rough skin on my elbows and arms. The generic version is like $3 for an enormous bottle.

But another thing you can do is get a big bottle of plain, uncoated aspirin. Aspirin are just pure salicylic acid, so you can take a dozen of them or so and crush them and either mix them in a carrier oil or in distilled water and apply to your skin.

In fact the homemade TendSkin that I made has 25 aspirin crushed into a mix of alcohol and witch hazel and does the same thing.

PC - It's a kit by a company called PruGen, contains a cleanser and a big bottle of lotion. I think it was like $10.00.

I've been using a stronger Glycolic acid for my elbows, also prescribed by the dermatologist. My elbows are torn up and terribly itchy from spending too much time proofing photos. He said it's from leaning my elbows on my desk.

Aspirin? Really! So, that's why the 8th grade trick of putting an aspirin on a pimple works, huh. I'll try that out.

How can you tell a photographer? By her flaky elbows. I have the EXACT same problem - and my left elbow is the worst. I tend to rest my left elbow on the table and lean my chin into my hand while manipulating the mouse or the Wacom pen with my right.

It's MUCH worse in the winter, too, because I wear wool sweaters and so they tear up my elbow when I lean.

Heh. Who knew these would be issues for female photogs.

Oh seriously - it's awful. My right is actually the worse of the two ATM. I've been leaning my elbow on my chair armrest and pivoting around with the Wacom. The endless hours of tiny movement is making it a mess.

The wool sweaters do cause pain, don't they? I've been wearing a ton of sweaters because I don't have the padding I did last year.

Woe is us, the female photographers!

I'm a total cosmetics junkie, and have filled both our bathrooms with my stuff, even have 3 makeupbags

Everyday:
I tend to use foundation (Rimmel), powder (Rimmel) and bronzer (Maybelline) everyday because my skin is very pale and a bit uneven coloured. My eyelashes are naturally black so I'm not too fussed about mascara, now I'm roadtesting L'oreal telescopic mascara which is ok, I like the slim rubber brush. And I think Benefit Brow Zings eyebrow colour is very very good, looks very natural.

I don't always wear eyeshadow, but if I do, it's beige or brown, safe bets...
Lipgloss is more my thing, makes me feel girly

Lotions and potions:
I'm really into body lotions and perfumes, and now in my newest attack against the enemy, cellulite , I got a pair of exfoliating mitts that you use in the shower. Totally love all things Body Shop, except their makeup, it just slides off my skin, but their body washes and creams are heavenly! Ooh and Johnson's face wash and moisturizer are excellent and so cheap!

Hair stuff:
Anything goes, at the moment I'm liking L'oreal royal jelly shampoo&conditioner, makes my fine hair really soft. My partner and I both have long hair so we just buy whatever is on 2 for 1, and I haven't noticed much difference in brands. I wouldn't trade my Isinis hair brush for anything else though.

so i got my first semester of grad school grades back (two As and an AB, which is like an A-), so i treated myself to some Bare Escentuals eyeshadow... a shimmery shade called Celestine. it's brownish/goldish/pink. it's so pretty! it makes my hazel/green/gold/weird eyes stand out.

I don't wear hardly any makeup except for cover up and mascara on my top lashes only.

My favorite tip and something I do quite often is to just put a bit of shimmery white eyeliner in the corner of my eyes. It totally brightens my eyes and makes them look bigger and more awake.

The skin care line I use is:
http://www.eminenceorganics.com/products/index.php
which is an all natural organic skin care line from Hungary. Expensive but worth it, my skin is completely clear and well taken care of (plus facials every one to two months).

I also use A LOT of scent, on everything. My friend once said to me "I've never met anyone that has a scent for every single part of her body!".

~CGH~

PS - I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have my toes manicured and painted (I do it myself at home). There's no excuse for bad feet! :-)

ok, so it's not really makeup, but i LOVE Dove Deep Moisture lotion. i've been using it since the cold weather kicked in. it makes my skin super smooth and soft! and it has SPF 15, which is good, since i sunburn on rainy days.

I used to only buy super expensive designer make up (dior, chanel, mac) and then once I started making my own hair and skin care products I became more involved with a handmade / diy / indie culture--

I now try to only buy handmade products... so side from my shampoo (which I make myself) I only buy conditioner really (so far I haven't been able to formulate something comparable without using silicones)-- I buy Jonathan Product conditioner, the volumizing version.

For makeup-- I wear mineral colors by Coffin Color (http://coffincolor.etsy.com) and Aroma Leigh (http://aromaleigh.com), currently I will still purchase mascara but am always on the look out for a more natural, vegan version (that DOES contain a preservative though, i dont want staph in my eye!).

I don't wear foundation, it always feels cakey to me (whether it is powder, liquid, tinted) and not natural.

I have pretty clear skin though, as I take very good care of it-- I cleanse with handmade soap, no harsh cleansers, I use a natural clarifying cream (lotion in hotter months), and a little bit of salicylic acid treatment mixed in, every day.

I make my own lip balm/butter, too. (I'd give myself a plug here but don't want to be spammy )

Oh yeah-- and I've tried mineral foundations from bare escentuals (tried them a few years ago) and I had this terrible burning on my cheeks... they're really sensitive, and I actually have a touch of rosacea that runs in my family--- there are certain minerals that you can be allergic to... there's often talk about that on different forums.
