After losing 75 lbs and going from a size 18 to a size 8, I had to replace all of my clothes except for my socks (including pajamas, coats and jackets!). It was a tremendous undertaking! While I was heavy, I didn't enjoy shopping or getting dressed or paying attention to myself, so I also needed accessories - purses, belts, shoes, jewelry. During my unhappy heavy time, I wore the same black loafers every day, I had one black purse, never wore a belt (why would I, since I never tucked anything in?) and the only jewelry I wore was a watch.
I had a similar experience to Meg - I bought way too much at first because it was such a joy to look good in clothes. Previously, nothing ever looked nice, if anything DID look nice I had to buy it! Now, with most everything looking nice I have to decide if I really WANT/NEED the item! It also took me about a year to get comfortable in "fitted" clothes. I always felt like if I could feel my clothes, it meant they were tight, tight clothes meant I was fat. I finally had to say "I will NEVER buy a big tunic sweater again!"
I would definitely recommend consignment shops - there are quite a few nice ones in my area. I consigned a ton of clothes after I lost weight and made over 100 dollars, I also bought a lot of stuff at consignment stores! It has taken me about 2 years to rebuild my wardrobe - a difficult but fun task
I love Talbots, but dislike the jeans I got there recently. Instead, I love the jeans I got at the Gap. They are more like trousers than jeans, kind of dressy jeans. I seem to be wearing a 6 these days, which is really amazing because 10 years ago I weighed 15 pounds less than I do now and was wearing a size 8. I usually get medium tops, but sometimes small. Isn't it great to go into a store and pick up a small and hope it isn't too big? So much nicer than picking up a large and hoping it is large enough.
I recommend you do some shopping online and request some catalogs. That way, you can get an idea of what you like before heading out to the stores.
Susan, WTG on getting the outfit. That suit is very pretty that you are bidding on now. Hope you get it too. That sure sounds like fun bidding on the clothes. I can't do that as I cut up every credit card. My DH has no sense when it comes to money or credit. I don't even use a debit card. It's cash or do without around here.
WTG on the make-up too. I just bought all new make-up last month. I don't use it often, only if going somewhere special.
Here's the trick Lily. All I have is a Paypal account. I have to transfer money from the bank and it takes a few days. There is no chance I'll impulsively buy anything on Ebay because it's a several step process that takes too long!
I almost forgot about this thread!
The checked suit was a NO ... very Molly Ringwald!
The box of 7 suits turned into three suits and one jacket that I like. In fact there's a funny green Rowena Rowan that's my new pants o'meter.
I must admit that I learned a few things shopping on Ebay ...
1. it's pretty optimistic to buy unknown size 4's right before Christmas and vacation.
2. a boxed lot is fun!
3. I'm going to be having a yard sale!
In Alabama I found awesome jeans at Academy Sports. Stretch, midrise, short, bootcut. $14.99, I love them. I'm an avid fan of Target where I got two jackets and 3 t-shirts with a bit of lace.
We went to that Unclaimed Luggage store in Scottsboro, AL ... it was overwhelming! I did get a sort of midseason jacket but ... HOLY COW for stuff. It's huge!
At a Bass Outlet, I got a plain white shirt.
I feel a little more like IT now ....
I'll try to do before pictures of the new pants o'meter later today.
Susan, that is great. It sounds like you are stocking you a wardrobe. It really is fun and exciting to get new things to wear. I haven't been to Target, but maybe I should look there for some jackets. Congrat's on those new clothes.
