5 am runs? There's only one place I run to at 5 am, then I hop right back in bed!

Hi Linda That's quite a zoo There are a lot of discussions about lapses, relapses and collapses on this board...scroll through and I'm sure you'll find some pertinent reading. We've all been there to some extent.

Elana- Rather than just upping the weight, try really changing your workout. If you work mostly with machines, move over to free weights. Try the same exercises with dumbbells and barbells. If your gym has bosu balls, try doing a lot of your arm exercises, like dumbell curls, standing on either side of the bosu ball. Sometimes I do a whole shoulder routine standing one one leg on the flat side of a bosu ball, rest, then switch legs. If you don't have bosu balls, try sitting on a stability ball instead of a weight bench. Use a stability ball instead of a flat bench by resting your head and shoulders on it (face up), hold your torso up with your abs and lower back, and do chest presses or flyes with dumbbells. You'll probably need to use lower weights at first, but you get an additional core workout, and lots of balance work...and it's more fun! Or move over to high and low cables. Anything you can do with a machine, you can do with free weights, cables, and/or resistence bands. If you can do an exercise sitting, try it standing. If you can do it standing, try it standing on one leg (then switch) or an unstable surface. Hope this gives you some ideas. Look around your gym...what are people doing? Are they moving while doing their workout? Are they doing different exercises from you? If so, maybe it's time to invest an hour or two with a trainer and learn some new techniques.

Ilene- Glad you finally made it to the gym

Time for bed!

Hey ..... shhhhh ...... it's me at work. Be vewy vewy quiet! But, I cannot keep quiet about the mortons neuroma. I had one many years ago and I've never had any more trouble as long as I wear very good sculpted insoles. Cloud Walkers, Birkenstocks etc. The first ones I got were inserts from the drugstore ..... really. Worth a try!

I'm unapologetically muching away on peanut butter and arrowroots. Beats he77 outa puffin' on cigs!

Hi maintainers,

Meg - how are your toes doing ? I read somewhere to up your vitamin E in these cases, seems to help prevent or solve problems with scar tissue in those areas.

Linda and Elana- welcome to the thread !

So far I am having a good week, 2 solid days of good eating & excercise. Today did 10 mins row, LBW, 30 mins jog and 10 mins bike.

have a good day,

Hi all:

Spring is defintely here. This board is buzzing today. I am enjoying some nice weather and yesterday took a walk, which help with my exercise. I am going to physical therapy for a neck problem and we are working increasing my strenght without hurting my neck.
Linda: Welcome. I have been struggling lately and this board encourages us all.
Ilene: Thanks for the constant inspiration with your workouts.
Meg: Once the cortisone works, its like a wow. It's just getting to that point. Feel better.
Elana: ENJOY YOUR SUCCESS. No help from me on the weights. I am still a beginner after about 5 years.
Take care.

Just lurking here. I've posted on the Accountability thread. But I just have to ask Ilene:

So you're not a maintainer in training anymore? You're a co-mod. Is that what I think that is? CONGRATULATIONS. You're just the right kind of person to be one!

We luvs co-mods!

Hi, everybody,

Well, I finally had time to read all your posts? 5 Am runs? Does somebody ever do that? I am not sure, but I can not do ANYTHING before 10 or 11 in the morning... I am an easy riser, have no problems with walk, but nothing more than that...

OK, her eis goes... My DD enrolled to the gym. And I am ENJOYING workouts with her... She is 15 and just yesterday after body ball class (which BTW I could not make 3 years ago and found way to easy yesterday) she said: "My muscles feel like flab!" I laughed explaining to her that muscles always feel like muscles, and what feels like flab is actually flab!!! We had good laugh and she is on to the gym tonight with DH - we decided that each of us will have a turn with wonderful teen!!!

Other than that I gained weight... That is exercising more and no-cheat eating and my scale up 3 pounds!!! No reason for gain - hence I decided to wait till the end of the week... And no cheating continues - all brownies are eaten, no chocolate in the house and even no parties scheduled this week! Can it be that I am gaining muscles - he-he, I know we do not gain muscles in a week, but still...

Hope your weight goes down when you exercise

Sandy.

Good morning!!!

I'm having a good week - three days of controlled eating and three hard days of exercise. My workout buddy has had a rough week with her baby, so I've been on my own. My major accomplishment for this week is getting to the gym each day even though I got that "I'm off the hook" feeling every time she told me she wasn't going. It made me realize how I need to be very careful about not getting too dependent on having a workout buddy.

We're having beautiful weather here, too. It was 60 degrees yesterday and it made my spirit soar. I wore a tank top to my son's soccer practice yesterday. It was absolutely fabulous!!!

Meg, I had a cortisone shot once in my wrist and it was, I think, the most painful thing I've ever experienced. Are you seeing any benefit yet?

Mel, your skating sounds like SO much fun! When we lived in Orange County, CA, we did a lot of roller blading along the beach boardwalks. It was always such a great workout and it was so exhilarating!

Welcome, Linda and congrats on your 5 months of maintenance, Elana!!

Rabbit, way to go on all your victories this week. Hope your shopping was fun!

Ilene, congrats on the promotion. It's very fitting - you are always so helpful and inspirational!

Gina, good luck with your neck appt.

Hello to everyone else!!!

Today's another gym day for cardio and all over weights. I think my workout bud will be there, but I will be there regardless!

Have a fun and fit day everyone!!

Hi maintainers,

Karynlee - Great that you stuck to it and went to the gym even without buddy
Meg - How are your toes ?

I did not do much yesterday and the day before. Went shopping and then was to tired to do much so I took yesterday as day off. Foodwise it was not good. I cannot seem to keep to a resolution once it is afternoon.

Today I am starting again, did FBW and 45 min jog, and will try again to keep in line foodwise.
Have a nice day,
rabbit

Talking

Hi again. I went to weight watchers today. I lost 1 pound. (It was because it was my TOM, but hey, I'll take it and run. ) I also added an avatar. I've never uploaded an avatar, so I'm pumped!

Linda and the zoo.

Linda - love the avatar! Congrats on the one pound.

Elana - for your five month anniversary!!

Susan - you just sneak right on in whenever you can ... we're always happy to see you. We're proud of you for staying away from those cigarettes! How long has it been now?

How terrific to have DD join your gym, Sandy! I always have so much fun working out with mine when she's in town. I'm just like Karyn - I like having a partner (and work out harder for whatever reason ). Are the three pounds gone yet? (they can't be real!)

So how's the rollerblading, Mel? All body parts still intact? Insurance up to date?

Rabbit - sorry you're having a tough time with the food - that's the hardest thing for almost all of us to get under control. Do you think that afternoons are tough for you because you're tired then? (for me, tired = no will power) Can you plan something to eat for afternoons that you really like and look forward to as a kind of treat (and that might keep you from the bad stuff?) At least you've been doing so well with the exercise - I'm always so impressed when I check here and see what you've done every day!

I appreciate all the good thoughts and suggestions about my toe. It's finally feeling a little better, though I still have a black bruise from the shot that's slowly spreading onto my toes. When I go back next week, I want to ask if a bruise like that is normal? Regardless, at least it doesn't hurt so much to walk and be on my feet. I've still been managing cardio on the bike and elliptical (though I took yesterday off - bad me ).

Today I have NO clients at the gym, so am planning to do a good leg workout and then spend the rest of the day studying and planning client workouts for next week. It's crunch time for my trainer certification - I need to take the test in about two weeks - and I'm busily making flashcards for the first time in 25 years. Can my brain cells still retain information or are they just little gray blobs of mush?? Why is it so darn hard to remember all the names of muscles yet I can still sing the theme song to Green Acres???
