More Raw Cookie Dough Stories!
When you were a kid, did you ever make one of those exploding volcanoes with baking soda and vinegar? If you did, you'll appreciate what happened to my neighbor (swear to God it's true, I was there) ...
She made chocolate chip dough from scratch, which includes baking soda. And then ate most of it raw. And then drank about 2 liters of Pepsi. Apparently the Pepsi reacts with the baking soda the same way those homemade volcanoes do -- lots of gas and bubbling and foam. :o She thought she was going to die for a couple of hours until it all settled down. :D Jiff, I bake for DH. He's lactose-intolerant and can't eat store-bought baked goods. So we've always got cookies in the freezer. |
meg... got any chocolate chip? oatmeal raisin?? i'll be right over!!!!!
and that story is enough to make ANYONE sick.. how AWFUL!!!!! and speaking of baking, i'm actually contemplating making a half-batch of biscotti for easter dinner for peachie and me. we just want one small cookie [isn't that bizarre?????] and we've agreed that we want the plain ones with some nuts. protein!!!!! |
The cookies du jour are oatmeal-chocolate chip. Not that either of us would want one, of course!
Ummm ... biscotti .... with a bit of orange peel and toasted almonds, drizzle of melted chocolate .... are you and Peachie doing a big ole traditional Italian Easter dinner? |
Hey! This isn't fair, I just ate and now I'm hungry again!!!!! I'd even eat raw cookie dough :D Biscotti??? Jiffy if you are in NJ you can't be too far for me to pop over and grab one with you.
OMG, Meg, that story was funny. I pictured her foaming at the mouth and groaning. I've never made biscotti- are they easy? Is it like Kamish bread where you bake it in a loaf pan, slice and rebake? Uh-oh, I'm going where I shouldn't go. Time to go to bed. Mel |
MAN you guys...
I saw that the Egg White Thread was still going strong so of course I HAD to look...and now I see it's turned into the Raw Cookie Dough Thread! (or the R.C.D.T. ) Oi vey you guys...
Ilene - I have a HILARIOUS Cathy cartoon regarding cookies that just came to mind. I'll have to scan it and upload it here for your amusement! You know, I told this to Mel and Meg but my baby sister who lives down the street keeps the makings on hand so she can whip out a batch of Toll House Cookies at any given moment. She's MEMORIZED the recipe. Ai yiyi. So last Friday night, I was visiting her and get this. First off, she was slicing a baugette, spreading the pieces with butter and noshing them. Ate about a 1/3 of a baugette...then she put a cornmeal crust PIZZA in the oven (it was about 10" in diameter) and we went outside for a bit. Unfortunately for ME, I hadn't eaten before I stopped by...I wasn't planning on staying longer than maybe an hour or so. So she takes the pizza out and offers me some, by that time I was starving so I had one SMALL triangle (and I mean SMALL). She had like 3, so there was half a small pizza left. She asked me if I wanted to take it home - for Jim... who was at a jam session that evening. WELL I know myself too well - I would've been in that pizza faster than you can say John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt! So I declined. Okay, so now we were watching Dateline, and THEN she remembers that she has to bring COOKIES for my niece's softball game the next day. It's 8:30 or so and she starts pulling out the ingredients for Toll House Cookies and arrrggh...making the cookies...and after the dough was made she licked the beater RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!! AAARRGGH SABOTAGE!!! I left soon thereafter because I knew once her house was permeated with the smell of cookies that I would be a goner... Anyway I gave her a talking to on the phone the next day, while she complained about her weight (she's not FAT, but she's getting pudgy compared to where she used to be...) I told her, dang, if she was supposed to bring cookies to the game, just stop by the Safeway bakery and PICK UP SOME ALREADY MADE!!! Her response: "Oh, that's what YOU would do." Damn skippy that's what I would do! Who cares anyway whether the cookies are homemade or not? Sheesh... |
jack.. i'm starting to fall in love with you... you have a nice dog. you quote hockey legends. you MUST be a nice guy.. can we clone you????
and mel... biscotti are DEAD EASY to make. i'll dig up a recipe for you. but be warned! i don't like the ones made with butter. not quite as authentic. ok. i REALLY mean that they're not like my grandmother's. but you're welcome to come on over and have some!!!! karen... i feel your pain. that whole temptation thing is difficult. <sigh> and one of my co-workers, in a fit of holiday celebration, brought in an ENORMOUS basket of candy and snacks. |

back to the yolks.....
I just saw this today and thought of your discussion:
Egg Yolk Paints (egg tempera) Carefully crack open an egg. Separate the yolk from the white. Mix 2 mL (1/2 tsp) water with the yolk. Pour a little of the yolk mixture into several small cups. Add food colouring, using a different colour for each cup. Use a brush to paint your egg. If the paint gets too thick, add a few drops of water. Note: Egg yolk paints can be used to paint designs on sugar cookies before they are put in the oven, or to paint faces or designs on bread before making sandwich or toast. Pop bread into toaster to dry the paint. |
WEll isn't that a cute idea!
