Default Maintainers Weekly Chat: October 24 - October 30

Coup of the week was to buy several huge bags of stuff at a nursery school yard sale for the DGD. Our house if filling up to look like a nursery school itself.

Continuing to walk as much as possible even as it gets chilly around here. I'm losing my enthusiasm for walking in cold rain - there just isn't an umbrella big enough, LOL.

Alisson - bummer about Roundup on your choice yellow Lantana. DW is our gardener and she'd be heartbroken.

I still don't think it has sunk in what he has done, Bill. It'll be quite evident in a couple of days, however.

Today brings a possibility of rain here, too, but not anything like what we need. They're predicting a hot, dry winter for us.

Great! I'll take your winter and send you mine Allison.

Great score on the toys Bill. As your DGD gets older you can have yard sales for toys she has grown out of. My cousin had tons of kid stuff for about 10 years and their whole neighbourhood had a big sale every fall. My cousin several times spotted items he had sold now up for sale from other households.

Allison-- was that horrific bus crash near you?

Woke up last night to heavy winds. We are expecting rain beginning later today with high winds. Dh is supposed to fly home Thursday and that looks like the worst day. Hopefully it isn't too bad. Dewey is not a fan of cold/wind/rain..... he looks at me from under the blanket when I say it's time for a walk-- like no thanks-- I'll opt out!

Weekend was mostly good. Spent time with friends, exercising, running errands, etc. Weight is up though. Ate lunch out Saturday and Sunday so hopefully sodium is mostly the culprit. We'll see.

Yes, it was. Very, very sad. Thankfully we didn't have to venture out yesterday as I understand roads all over the valley were impacted by the closure of the freeway for close to 12 hours. I'm also glad my kids hadn't planned on visiting as they'd have a big problem trying to get out of the valley.

Busy here but enough time to

Very sympathetic about the Roundup mistake, Allison.

Bill, books from charity shops for the DB opened the door to many old classics and a huge vocabulary at an early age. The place was stuffed with old books, tottering in piles. You have been warned! (And now we've got more bookshelves.) No TV here.

Had to do something quite sad and awful to do with a missing and now dead pet today. Sometimes my job is really hard.

Hugs, Dagmar!

I can't remember how to update my ticker (on the left under my profile). Can someone remind me? I haven't seen 120 in quite awhile so it's time to amend. Sigh.

Never mind-- I figured it out as soon as I posted. I'll wait a few days and then amend. I'm almost to 5000 posts-- that seems like a good milestone to update.

Dagmar, I am so sorry. The animal ran off? And met with misadventure? My nightmare from the days when I lived in a family that owned pets.

It was one of the many cats that have gone missing - presumed eaten by a coyote that people in that neighbourhood have seen. I found enough of it on the street to identify that it had been a cat. Not one of the ones I look after but still very sad. The missing cat count is apparently now 14.

I have persuaded all of my clients down there to keep their cats indoors until the coyote is removed/destroyed. It's a sad thing to do to a wild creature but it's just too habituated and too many pets are dying. Several small dogs have been snatched off their properties, one from a front porch. So it's time for the coyote to go.

That's too bad about the coyote and all the pets, Dagmar. It's the one thing that keeps me keeping the cats indoors all the time here.

Well, it's the same old story here. More assistant issues. Today, I am sending her an email stating that per our employee manual, she may not return to work without a doctor's note indicating that she is fit to work and to drive. And I also want a letter from her counselor indicating that she is, and will continue to see him or her on a regular basis. She came into work Wednesday, did payroll and promptly said she hasn't been feeling well and wanted to go home, and then proceeded to call in sick yesterday and today. I've had it, and finally DH is on the same page as me.
