Default Maintainers Weekly Chat January 18 - January 24

We had dinner at another new-to-us restaurant this week - feels like we're on a roll here. I had scrod since it was one of the few dishes without a huge mound of pasta included.

There's snow on the ground right now in need of shoveling. It's a holiday here - the celebrated birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. - so there's no hurry. But it's unlikely to warm up enough to melt the snow without help.

We're having a warming trend here. Highs are expected to be in the mid-70's all week.

Had a miserable workout this morning, the TV in the exercise room kept saying no signal. DH seems to think a cat is responsible as all the other TVs in the house are working fine. No TV while on the treadmill means a lot of boredom.

I made a batch of soup for lunches this week. 1.5 butternut squash, 2 medium russet potatoes, 4 leeks, chicken broth and some 1/2 & 1/2 to finish while blending it all smooth. It works out to less that 200 calories for a large serving and since I didn't add salt, and the broth was sodium-free, I count that as a win!

Allison.... At least you got it done! Win! And your soup sounds great.

Not sure I've had scrod, Bill. Is it a white fish?

Day off for me. Going to bikram this morning, lunch with dh, dentist and chiropractor. Dh has to work but he's going to lunch with me. We are celebrating the anniversary of the day we met... 30 years ago!

Going to be a good week for me. Any week that starts with a Monday corporate holiday is getting off to a good start. Plus, I kept a promise to myself and exercised this morning (TRX), and I expect to also have a job interview this week as well. And I'm down 3.5 pounds for the year. If I am able to tame the Laundry Demon today ... bonus!

No holiday here for me. And, a cold turn weather wise. I got up to go the park for a run in 25 degrees this morning only to find the gate locked and closed for MLK day. Makes sense, the city employees are off today, and someone has to open the gate. I can shift my run to tonight, when it is going to be 27 degrees with 12 mph winds, tomorrow morning at 21 degrees and 7mph winds or change clothes and go now over lunch in 32 degrees and 8 mph winds and just stay at work late. I'm thinking I'm about to go now. We'll see how it goes. It is 32, feels like 25. I don't even want to think about what the 21 will feel like tomorrow...

My first full day back from the dogsit was yesterday. Trixie got hurt on the morning walk. We're going to the vet tonite. I'm hoping it's not what I think it is - torn ACL - as that means surgery and a 12-week recovery. But I'll have to do whatever it takes to help her.

Last night I just lay on the couch with Natalie on my chest and Trixie snoozing in her dog bed near by. DH was busy with his band stuff upstairs and we girls spent over an hour hanging around in the dark living room just relaxing. Nice!

Great job, Becky!

Poor Trixie!! I hope it isn't that serious-- keep us posted. When dh had surgery on his knee, he had two surgeries-- one was a partial knee replacement-- the other to replace his ACL. Ouch! He'll be 7 weeks post surgery tomorrow and doing well.

Rainy day here. You should have seen the look Dewey gave me when I tried to take him out to potty. I know we've desperately needed the rain, but this El Nino stuff is beyond crazy. Thank goodness dh bought me rain boots for Christmas.

Went back to the chiropractor last night for my back and neck. My back was nowhere near as bad as it once was, but I'm trying to stay on top of it. I'm getting on an every other week schedule of an adjustment and a chiropractic massage so I hope that helps.

Ate too much yesterday too but scale only showed slight gain, probably thanks to a very hot and humid bikram class yesterday. The instructor used me as an example for a pose (cobra if you know yoga poses). Pretty cool!

Back to work today--- just a 4 day week. I can do this!

Shannon Trixie is in less pain today and limping less noticeably. We are taking her to the vet tonite. Not sure what they can do besides a physical exam but I think finding out sooner is better in this case.

Becky Was your interview today? How did it go? Same industry? or is that none of my business?

I'm off to a mammogram - fun times!

Dagmar: Gotta give you one of these: . Which, if you squint, kinda looks like two breasts being squished by a mammogram machine.

Michele congrats on 30 years. DH and I "met" 30 years ago this year, too, if you want to call "take a really boring 9 am class together" meeting. (We didn't start dating until much later.)

Sometime in the middle of the night, the cattens stole my contact case from the bathroom counter. My contacts were, of course, in them. I'm sure the case is in some dark and dusty corner of the house, abandoned when the cattens lost interest. But, it turns out it's rather hard to search for your eyeballs when you don't have your eyeballs in. I looked for a bit, then decided I needed coffee first.

kaw~sounds like the contact case best be left in a drawer or medicine cabinet overnight! I hope you find those eyeballs! My cats love to find things on our counters and fling them all over. Thankfully, we don't keep much out and we provide lots of stuffed mice for their entertainment.

Speaking of cats, last night Ringo, our oldest and most cantankerous cat, climbed up on the ottoman between our feet and napped while Waffles, our newest and hissiest, slept on DH's lap. Ringo rarely comes out like that so it was a nice change of pace.

kaw-- hope you find your eyeballs! I am grateful that I had laser correction surgery years ago and I no longer have that issue. Now that I'm "aging", I do wear glasses to drive and at work but I can function without them which still is mind blowing to me. I was a swimmer for years and years and I could never see the wall or the ropes and I would always know I finished a race when I hit the wall! Congrats on 30 years too. Little different meeting than myself it sounds like. I was a starry eyed 18 year old freshman in college and when the "cool guys" invited myself and my roommate to their apartment in our complex for a party, we went. I met dh at that party-- sometime around 1 am, and we've been together ever since. The rest, as they say, is history...
It's hard for me to fathom all we've been through and done in the past 30 years. I pray we have at least 30 more together.

Ups and downs emotional wise with our daughters.... I sense much stress in the next year.... younger dd went to visit older dd last weekend... she is contemplating moving to Texas where older dd is when she graduates in December. Older dd wants to buy a home this summer (with our help of course) and had hoped younger dd would live with her, at least temporarily, to help pay bills, etc. The two have never gotten along and we thought we had turned a curve. Guess not. Older dd still thinks the idea is great, younger dd says she can't live with older dd.... so.... who knows but they are both stressed out and anxious about all of the possible changes which stresses us out.... younger dd is going to be a teacher (same as older dd) and probably won't find a full time job halfway through the school year-- so she will probably sub which doesn't pay as well, which is why the living arrangements made sense. But if they can't tolerate each other for a few days, not sure how they'd make 8-9 months together. They also went to dinner with my in-laws and both girls are concerned about my in-laws health.... so.... we are debating how/when to go visit to a. check on in-laws, b. look at houses with dd, c. scout out possible apartments for other dd, etc. Looks like my Spring Break in April. Younger dd wants us to visit her in Arizona though, so we may do Arizona and Texas in the same week. I'm trying not to stress just thinking about it all. Thanks for letting me vent though!

Weight is good.... maybe due to 4 days in a row of bikram yoga which I haven't done in a long time. Won't be able to workout today though hopefully can take the doggies on a long walk if the rains hold off. My nail lady is in a hair salon and when I got my nails done on Saturday, she told me one of the hairdressers is looking for "hair models" to practice highlighting on. So, I'm going in this afternoon for free highlights! I told the gal she could do what she wanted with me, so we'll see how that turns out...

kaw Did you find your eyeballs?

michele How did your highlights turn out?

Allison Nice to hear the cats are socializing.

I am now facing big sad dog eyes everywhere. Our cat is driving Trixie nuts - stalking her, batting at her, grabbing her ears while she sleeps, etc. Trix is such a good dog she's just taking the abuse. I grabbed the cat and got a set of teeth squeezing my skin. She got a full shot of water in the face for that and is now off sulking in the bedroom. Serious cabin fever has set in. How many more months of winter?
