Thanks Andrea. I stayed up late doing research and found other articles, too. The National Lymphedema Network changed its position statement on exercise in 2010. Mad scientist that I am, I'm off to buy a 6" PVC pipe in order to make a volumetric arm measurer tonight. It works by allowing me to weigh the amt of water displaced by my arm. I want to have baseline measurements before surgery. This surgeon is highly recommended and does seem to be up on all the latest in surgical techniques, so I'll forgive her this one lapse, especially since I'm really eager to have this tumor removed!

All your good vibes worked -- I got through the surgery and am feeling okay. For the first time in a long time, it's hard to overeat. In fact I'm probably undereating even with my reduced activity. I haven't needed the pain meds. When I feel sore I just recline on the couch for a while. According to DH, the surgeon told him she only removed one lymph node. I'm hoping that's a good sign. It will feel great to get the wrap off and take a shower this evening!

That's wonderful news, Alice. My DH had only one node removed when he had breast cancer almost 5 years ago and hasn't had a problem with lymphedema. Here's hoping it's the same with you.

Alice, best wishes to you for a complete recovery and to hear you are once again bending iron.

(And how did I miss reading this thread until now?!)
