Where were we going, I wonder, Jay? Of course I would ask that because I'm spending my vacation thinking about my next vacation -- I was online yesterday researching what Arizona would be like in late January, if you don't golf or hike.
Yes, discussions of the rest of life do happen here -- what's going on with us between feedings or preparing or thinking about food.
My weight is an indicator of my state of mind and also my emotional state, just like the instrument panel of a car. When I show up here, I'm recording the data, and just a little of the context for interpreting it. That's all we get here, is glimpses of the rest of one another's lives, which are, of course, richer than the data we're offering up here.
This morning I put on my gym clothes as usual, then remembered that I have to pick up a job candidate at the airport before I can go to the gym. Now, normal people would probably take off their gym clothes and put on something a bit more professional. I just put my work clothes on over my gym clothes.
Three thoughts: (1) it's so nice to have enough slack in my slacks to be able to wear gym clothes underneath them. This wasn't true 10 pounds ago. (2) it's also nice to be in a mental place where I really don't care if the job candidate thinks I made an unfortunate choice in undergarments that gave me a uni-boob. And, (3): Wow, I'm lazy.

Sounds like you're in a pretty good place all around kaw.

How do you feel about flora and fauna? The Desert Museum in Tucson is awesome, a place to spend hours wandering around. Tucson has some nice outdoor markets, galleries, shopping, and museums. My sister and I went to a spa for facials--a nice treat. Sierra Vista is a great place to look for birds, especially hummingbirds. Bisbee is a fun touristy town to visit. The best reason to visit Arizona, IMHO, is that it's warm in January. I could easily become a snowbird. Of course, after spending the last week with the high about 20, the 40 degrees we have today seems balmy.
Got dh home last night and we somehow struggled up the stairs to our bedroom. It became quickly apparent that he wouldn't be able to care for himself today so I stayed home from work. Horrible guilt when I do that as the library is closed and all classes cancelled. We are debating if I can make it in tomorrow. He's doing as well as can be expected. We had a machine delivered that straightens and bends his leg. Later today someone is coming to do physio. How on earth would he have let them in?
I'm sorry, Michele. The discharge case worker (whatever they call them there) should have advised you of what he and you would face and whether going home would be best. Too many assumptions are made about home care.
saef, even in Tucson, it is very cold at night in the winter. Just keep that in mind.
Sheila53, I loved the Desert Museum. I gave a presentation there on snakes of the Sonoran Desert to my classmates on a field trip, many years ago.
I have always wanted to live in a desert. Those big, big open skies . . .
The visit to the desert in Morocco was the highlight of my trip. Particularly climbing up a huge dune to witness the sun rising - breathtaking!
I still hope to someday visit New Mexico and see Georgia O'Keefe's ranch and walk the surrounding landscape. Like being in one of her paintings I imagine.
And the Grand Canyon and surroundings would be great to see too!
The Grand Canyon is spectacular! I have only been there once but plan to go again within a year. I'd like to do the rim-to-rim hike.
Yesterday I hiked and was tired when I got home. Around 8 pm I lay down to read for a few minutes before I fed the dogs and settled the cats for the night. And, I decided to have some dark chocolate. After midnight I woke up with melted chocolate all over my hand and the sheet :\ I guess I fell asleep before I could eat it. The dogs got a really late dinner.
Alice You have really good pets! If I'm napping and dinner is 15 minutes late Natalie gets on top of me and starts "snuggling" my face - smushing her face and chin into mine (and sometimes the other stinky end of her too) until I wake up.
Well it has been an interesting 11 months that I have been absent from this site.I have not been really absent, but could not log on

made me laugh!
What kind of dogs do you have? Mine wouldn't wait an extra 30 minutes!
I have to share an embarrassing story about my dachshund, Samantha. They are known to be garbage hounds and will eat anything. During her long and happy life, we saw that many times. I got her when I was 16 and she lived till I was 32... She went to college with me, was with me when I was married and had my girls, so much of my young adult life. Once she got into and ate an entire bag of Hershey's kisses including the foil wrappers! Chocolate is poisonous to dogs but she just got a little sick. Another time I was out with my roommates in college and had a bit to drinkp..... My roommate insisted we pick up foot long hoagies. She was known to pass out after drinking. We woke up in the morning and she was asleep on the floor with just the wrapper.... The last time made me My then boyfriend (now hubby) and I took Samantha to the beach. She just wanted to sleep and was dragging her stomach and moaning. My roommate didn't want to admit what had happened, but apparently when dh and I went to dinner, she and her friends thought it was funny to blow pot smoke in her face and throw giant marshmallows at her to see if she could catch them... That was the last time we ever left Samantha with her and my housing arrangements changed shortly after.
Dh is still mostly in bed following his knee surgeries. We are hoping he can start to get around a little better today so I can go to work tomorrow. I'm exhausted taking care of him. He does have our kitties and our dachshund to keep him company. We are frustrated with the doctor as he didn't get one of his prescriptions for pain. We assumed we had what we needed and they insist they gave it to us, but we filled what we were given! So he didn't have the stronger pain meds till late Friday after having the surgery Wednesday. It is making a big difference! We are also hoping to try the stairs today as we got him upstairs Wednesday night but he will eventually need to go back down!
My eating is good. Hadn't exercised except helping him, walking dogs, and going up and down the stairs a million times waiting on dh. I went to the gym briefly yesterday and am hoping to sneak away long enough to do yoga today. We will see...
