Grrr, I am not fond of the modern education system! Or, come to think of it, of the modern parenting system. Just let the kids dictate everything - how they will learn (entertainment), what they will eat (krap food). And then give them a label (ADHD, on autism spectrum, etc). WTH.

Dagmar, sorry you got so tired! The central California weather is nice compared to the east coast. Can't complain.

Allison, I checked you out on the news. You looked great and spoke well! I'll be staying away from online flowers -- great piece!!

My weight was down 2 pounds from Monday to 126.5. I always know it is water weight after a lot of hiking, but I'm always relieved when it goes away. Why are some of us (myself included) slaves to the scale? I think it is years of emphasis on the scale as the only important tool to measure feminine worth.

Thanks for the warning, Allison. A zillion years ago, we had to make a 'long distance' phone call to a local florist in the recipient's town to get flowers sent. That seemed to work well. Funny, I don't recall how we paid for them - perhaps mailed a check.

I always try to call local florists and have things delivered when I can. It is easier now with credit card payments over the phone.

Allison, I like your asymmetric bob and the color. Did you say recently you'd re-thought how you wanted your highlights done?

Dagmar, hope you have some kind of rewarding little moment planned for the day. Is this one of those times you'll run into other dog-walkers, and you all might share cupcakes?

I'm still adapting to being back at work. I am far too slow in getting started, lingering too long over the paper and the Internet after breakfast and before doing my mandatory weighted leg lifts. I can't believe how tired I feel by the end of the day -- and yet my thoughts are going over the events of the day and I don't fall asleep as quickly as I'd like.

This morning I got to announce my direct reports' bonuses and merit increases, one of the best moments on the job, when I feel like Santa.

My weight's up slightly, but at physical therapy, they were saying how my rate of progress picked up over the past two weeks, despite the weather-related missed appointments. That's probably due to my diligence in leg lifts and in making myself walk a little. Since none of the physios knew me before the accident, they don't really understand that I have a pre-existing propensity toward exercising & going to the gym, and physical therapy was simply a plug-and-play for that.

It's not really asymmetric. I think it was just the camera angle. But yes, I've recently changed the color. For about 10 years I've been highlighting my hair--adding "low" lights (darker color) after about 5 years. But I grew tired of two things--roots showing after just a couple weeks and that "stripey" look. So I mulled it over for a couple months and decided to forego the highlights and take the color my stylist uses for the low lights and do my whole head with the low lights. She warned me that the residual highlights will come through after a couple of weeks. They did, but they look more "natural" than when I put them there in the first place. My roots grew in--almost an exact match for the low light color although by that time my color had faded quite a bit. But I love not having to go in every 5 or 6 weeks for color! I go in next Friday and at that time it'll be closer to 8 weeks since I did the color. I'm also getting a trim and I can't decide to go with the kind of cut that is shorter in back and a bit longer in front or not. It's so nice to be able to put my hair in a ponytail for golf and that cut would not be conducive to ponytails.

Happy Birthday, Dagmar! Hope it's a great one!

I read asymmetric boob instead of bob-- oy... need more coffee and perhaps glasses!

Tomorrow will start a difficult week for me food and exercise wise. My dd is coming in tomorrow because my relatives (dh's parents from Houston, and dh's brother with his family from Hong Kong) are also coming. Dh comes home Saturday. Dd wants to do pedicures and dinner tomorrow which will likely eliminate my exercise plans.... Then, relatives will all be in Napa, which without traffic only takes a little over an hour from here-- but... with the holiday and the weekend, we will be stuck in traffic a lot-- as we have elected not to stay up there but go back and forth to have some meals, time together, etc. It is bound to be stressful, off my eating plans, and not sure how exercise will fit in. I just hope to keep things relatively sane to minimize the damage. My weight is up a little from last week, but it is "ok" for now... that may not be the case at this time next week.

saef We generally don't bring treats to the beach in the winter - it's minus 34 down there today with the windchill and the sand and snow are blowing directly across where we walk.

DH and I will enjoy a black and white "cakelet" tonite from a great bakery called Dufflet. Food porn link coming up

Happy Birthday Dagmar! Wow that is a food porn link! I had to look.

Michele, I cracked up at how you misread bob.

Saef, Probably the PTs are used to people not doing what they tell them to do and you are not only going to do it, but end up doing more! Glad you are working and giving bonuses!

Had my long day of regular job and the professor job. Always so hyper afterwards, I stay up till midnight and then I still have to get up so early. Not going to run in the morning so instead of 4:15 I can sleep in till 5:30!!! I have strength training after school though and at least it's Friday.
