Just saw my neighbor escorting a realtor to his apartment, which he's put on the market. So he's okay. That's a relief.

My own accident seems to have made me unusually attentive to news of other accidents, particularly when the people injured or killed were just going about their daily routines and didn't see it coming. I hope that I get over this soon.

ETA: That's a great neopunk band name: "The Puking Cats."

Allison - Gracie has done the same thing for years. We have't found a reason why yet, and it doesn't seem to hurt her. Sometimes she does it with food, sometimes it is with water.

Thanks for the info on the puking cats!

Glad to know I'm not the only one! I'd be willing to cook food for the cats if I could guarantee they'd all eat it. They're all so different! Louie, who needs to gain weight, rarely eats the dry stuff I put out. He's all for the canned. Ringo, who has had bladder issues, isn't supposed to eat dry, but he rarely eats the canned (I'm not too worried any more as I finally figured out how to make him drink more water). Culley is the least of my problems, being formerly feral, he'll eat anything we put out (but prefers Friskies over the "better" brands so I mix a little Friskies with two grain-free brands and he's happy).

Luna looks very cool as Dog of the Day!!

Saef, good luck with your checkup.

We have 7 cats and two of them puke now and then. Pepper, a big obese guy, eats too fast. Jasper, I don't know why but it's not that often.

I am swamped at work and also trying to get ready for my 3 day weekend in Death Valley. I'll be driving over tomorrow night (5 hour drive), camping out of my big truck, day hiking Friday and doing an overnight backpack Saturday/Sunday. I am pretty stressed because I'll be leaving from work tomorrow night and don't want to forget anything. I have to have absolutely everything packed tonight and I don't even know what food I'm taking.

Luna is adorable!! I couldn't help but look at the Doberman rescue after you mentioned it. Of my two dobermans I've owned, one came from a breeder and died suddenly at age 7 of a heart attack. The other was a rescue-- she came to us skinny, with heart worms (which we treated) and with BB's in her. She was the best dog ever but unfortunately died around age 7 as well from osteosarcoma (after we amputated her leg). I'll keep my eye on the rescue doggies-- I need one that is good with a small dog and also cats which could be tricky to find.

Saef-- good luck! Please keep us posted!

My day started off crappy when a parent came into the library at 7:50 and proceeded to yell at me. I wasn't prepared for that!! Then a parent brought me an unexpected latte-- I usually don't deviate from my planned meals, but I sure drank that up.... I don't know why people feel the need to try to bully others-- I feel sorry for his son!

I want to pet Luna. She'd feel so sleek, and her ears would feel so soft.

At last, three months after the accident, my doctor has cleared me for "partial weight-bearing as tolerated." At physical therapy, the crew was happy for me. They put me on a recumbent bike, and afterward, I got to put the foot of the injured leg on a squishy rubber dome-line thing and practice pressing down on it. They say to hang onto my walker and practice shifting my weight back and forth from foot to foot. Also to try "walking" with the walker rather than hopping.

And I got cleared to start work on Monday, if I want to. I think I want to. I'm going to have to guard my physical therapy time carefully, though.

Good news, saef!

Why on earth would a parent yell at you Michele? My goodness!

Luna is so cute!

Update on my office assistant. She called late last week and sounded like her old self (whereas for the past three or four months she didn't sound good, didn't make good choices, etc.). She says she's done with PT, has an appointment with her specialist and then with her GP later who should clear her to come back to work. She says she feels much better, has been eating and has gained back most, if not all, of what she lost. She also apologised saying she should have listened to DH and me when we told her to go to the ER that it was not right to not eat for so long (4-6 weeks or more if I remember correctly). The lack of food caused her to collapse and that is why her sister took her to the ER (or perhaps she called an ambulance, IDK).

saef, wonderful news!!! That squishy domelike object sounds like a BOSU ball. They are great for working on balance and, obviously, rehab and PT. Take it easy if you decide to go to work--make it just part of a day?

alinnell, I'm glad to hear that your employee hasn't died. I do hope her health has improved and she can do her job.

Great and exciting news, Saef!

The parent yelled at me because I told him the library wasn't open for checkouts before school. He said he wants to come with his son to help him choose books. I tried to explain that his son comes every week with his class, and that I can't just be open for over 1,000 kids before school. Kids aren't supposed to be on campus before school starts anyway. I suggested they look at the library catalog from home if he wants to give his son some input. I also said I'm not necessarily in the library before school-- when they came this morning I was delivering a book to a class. He yelled, "so you leave the library unattended!?" Ugh. I also suggested the public library if he really wants to assist. There is a beautiful public library about a mile away. I sent the boy's teacher an email mentioning the altercation and copied our admin. The teacher later spoke to me about what a nightmare the dad is. I feel sorry for his son. He's in third grade. Can't he choose his own books!?

YAY!!!! That is so cool! Yesterday I used her picture in my class, but I didn't check on here until this morning. I sort of wondered if it was you because you had posted about a rescue doberman for Michelle and I remembered you were in CA. But then I thought, no, it couldn't be.
I'm so excited!!! My students have submitted pics and never made it. I haven't submitted my dogs before for some reason!

Saef -- Yay! That's great news! Definitely guard your PT time when you are back at work. As busy as your job is it will be good to get back. As a teacher, and having summers off, after a few days back it's like you never left!

Lots of good news on here this morning! I didn't have time to check last night and shouldn't be doing it now, but wanted to check in real quick! lol

Saef, hooray for some good news! Very glad to hear that it's confirmed that you are healing and can move to the next stage.

For all you folks dealing with animal puke, one of the strongest points in favor of bunnies as pets is that they have no mechanisms for doing that. Rabbits don't and CAN'T.

Work's a goofy mess of pending re-org. I could write a long post about the breathtaking stupidity and mismanagement - it's funny how everything that's taught in business schools just sort of falls apart when multiple strong personalities with penchants for empire-building have the opportunity to exert influence. OK, so that was a long sentence. It would appear that the shrouds of secrecy come off next Tuesday.

It's just eight degrees outside today, and my mother already had to bundle up & go outside to move her minivan from its parking space, accommodating one of the large, unwieldy trucks that are visiting the complex as part of the ongoing work on the flood wall. I've got a physical therapy session to look forward to today.

I listened to two hours' worth of recorded "kickoff" meetings yesterday and have another hours' worth to go at some point. Also talked with my manager for quite some time. The big shock is that she wants to leave for another position.

Now in the regular course of things, I'd be a candidate to take over her job. But I have been out of the loop for three months straight, and also am incapacitated in that I can't show up in person at the main office, which is critical at a moment like this, when one would wish to be perceived as a strong presence and a potential leader of a department. So I am at a considerable disadvantage, if not completely counted out.

I'll try not to think of that today and just focus on exercising the leg and watching the next recorded meeting.

Stay safe, Saef-- be careful out there!
Are you going back to work soon? Monday? Going to try full-time with time off for PT? Or more part-time?

We are expecting torrential downpours starting today for a few days. We had zero rain in January, tons of rain in December--I know we need it but it is such a pain getting Dewey to potty in the rain!

My hubby made me cry this morning. When he is away and missing me, he will sometimes send messages by email so as not to wake me up. I woke up to the sweetest email this morning where he talked about loving me through the years-- from our first meeting, to our early years, to the births of our daughters, etc. We've been married for 27 1/2 years-- I feel so incredibly fortunate. I know our marriage is strong because we've made it that way, but I still feel blessed. My parents had a god-awful marriage so I never had a good example to go by-- I just knew I wanted to do it differently. I'll have to hold onto my good thoughts when his PITA family comes next week to visit. They are already being so difficult-- his brother in Hong Kong anyway. They are being so vague about their plans-- where they will be, how they will get there-- um-- hello? Do you need us to pick you up? I kinda think they want to see family, but they more want their own vacation and probably won't want to see us much, which is fine with me. We'll see....

I got my fitbit yesterday and am trying to figure it out today. I'm planning on wearing it and my old device (jawbone upband) for just a few days to compare statistics.

Off to work-- I have a book fair meeting this morning-- ugh-- again already?! And we are starting a HUGE Read-a-thon next Monday. Very excited about that. We have always excelled in the district as the top school (5 years since its inception) but this year the "foundation" is no longer sponsoring it so it was up to each school whether or not to hold one. I'm going full steam ahead and hoping ours will be bigger and better-- but... that means it is all on me-- the planning, the execution, the aftermath... etc.

And I'm trying to organize an author event for Chinese New Year too-- we have 4 Chinese Immersion classes at my school-- so I better get to work!
