Oh well then. I spelled the word wrong when I tried to look it up. Not a wonder I couldn't find it. Though I probably shouldn't admit that out loud. LOL

Michele - I like steelcut oats better than rolled oats, but I've read that there isn't nearly as much nutritional difference as some try to say between the types and it is just a matter of taste.
Had a glorious birthday dinner last night - my mom took DH and me (our birthdays are 6 days apart) to a wonderful Italian restaurant. They have calamari done three ways - and let me tell you, calamari does not have to be little fried rubber rings! These were sliced lengthwise and grilled ... and beyond divine. I will never eat fried calamari ever again!!
Becky, the first time I had calimari was at The Cheesecake Factory (where I'll never eat at again, except for cheesecake--which is RARE). It did in fact taste like rubber bands. And then we found an actual rubber band in it. Yeah, beyond gross. My FIL ordered calimari at an upscale steakhouse here when we went for mother's day. Beyond glorious! Divine food. I would never have ordered it again after my first experience. Glad you had a great birthday!
I'm getting ready to take one of the cats to the vet for his yearly exam. It always stresses them out so much! I feel bad having to take him.
I will be MIA for most of the next 2 weeks. Dog sit started out really badly - 3 hours at the vet, stitches, necrotic tissue in the wound, infection etc. etc.
I now have a golden retriever with a big cone on his head, 5 stitches behind his ear, taking antibiotics 2X per day, and wearing a little purple and grey sock on his rear paw to prevent excessive banging of the cone when he tries to scratch. He is also the one with the allergies so the head cone is constantly full of drool and I have to keep wiping it out.
He's also confined to the leash for all his walks and he's starting to feel much better and also very irritated at all the stuff I'm doing to him. Poor guy! I'm glad I caught the ear injury when I did as he could have easily developed gangrene if left untreated for much longer.
Pets with long fur have to be groomed and checked several times a week for matts. Period.
Dagmar, yikes! I hope the dog sit is uneventful after this. Your statement about long-haired pets and mats made me squirm a bit: my cat Zack has been getting lots of mats for the past couple of years (he's 12) and he just hates it when I comb him. I know it pulls and I try to be gentle, but some of them are quite stubborn. I've resorted to cutting them out when he won't let me comb him.
Shannon, no veggies in my garden, all flowers. I have a long, narrow yard so I have perennial beds all around the perimeter. I also like annuals so I've got lots of containers on my patio and scattered about the yard. The garden is approaching peak loveliness so I'll take some pics and post a link.
Allison, both you and the dress are lovely. And which kitty is that?
saef, I hope you're feeling better. Being sick when the weather's nice just seems so unfair.
I'm going to visit my favorite dog in the whole world tomorrow, the fabulous Newfie who belongs to one of my ex-bosses. She's very sweet and she loves me (I gave her her first taste of ice cream) so I'll get some much-needed hugs.
Steph, the cat was Ringo. He's almost three--our tuxedo cat. He just needed his yearly physical and one shot, but I got to see the vet that referred Chico to the specialist so I could give her an update on him. Anyway, she said Ringo was such a good cat that he'd be a perfect candidate for gentle dental (cleaning without anesthesia). He has just a little tarter right now, so it can wait. But I'm thinking to myself that this is the cat that hides under the couch and attacks my in-laws (because it is they who bring kittens and cat tents into the house). Good cat? Not in my book, but he was very good at the vet.
Going to go see Star Trek in 3D at the IMAX today and then coming home to make coconut chicken salad with warm honey mustard dressing. Sounds light and yummy.
Michele, rolled oats usually means the ones labeled "old fashioned" in the grocery store. Quick oats are basically kind of like regular oats that have been chopped up into smaller pieces, which makes them cook faster. If you're following a recipe, don't use quick oats unless it specifically calls for them. Old fashioned oats aren't particularly slow to cook -- 5 mins on medium heat in the microwave.
I'm losing track of what day it is since I do the exact same thing every day. The girls are gaining weight and approaching four pounds, at which point they might get to come out of their isolettes and into a regular bassinet. At that point we might get to put them in together, but I'm not sure since Cecilia still has to have respiratory support.
