Good grief!!! It's predicted to be 90 degrees F. today for the Boston Marathon. First time runners are advised to sit out the run - the officials don't want to haul off dehydrated/exhausted newbies.
That's just skipping spring too fast. We need time to smell the blossoming trees.
Bill I think the weather is on 'roids. We are having a similar anomaly up here - 24 C today - shorts weather! Spring comes back tomorrow.
I am back at my house after an interesting but exhausting dog sit. I am down 1 lb from last week and will take it. Though I miraculously kinda expected to be back under red line after being OP for 3 days out of 7. I think I have to change the ratio considerably.
Excuse any typos as DH did something to my computer and i have to type on his weird ergonomic keyboard.
My busy time continues for another 2 days and then I get to try to catch my breath a bit. I'm really hoping my back problems (3 now) will resolve soon and I can get back to lifting weights. I can see a loss of muscle tone after 2 weeks of no lifting and it ain't pretty .
I am off to a lawyer after work to delve into the mysteries of capital gains, principal residence, etc. Hope I can stay awake and process what she says.
It's supposed to hit 88 degrees here. I'm too warm already, sitting here in a fleece jacket over my sweaty gym clothes just before I jump into the shower. Usually I'm shivering in the chilly house.
It's wet outside from yesterday's rain and all the birds are rioting. I've opened the atrium doors to the deck and the cat is sunning himself on the corner of the oriental rug. And unfortunately, I need to ignore all this & focus on the laptop screen, and I've got a heckuva lot of work descending upon me, including a 23-page report on IT in Brazil compiled by a bunch of analysts whose English will need some smoothing-out and rephrasing work before it can be presentable to CEOs and CIOs. (I just spent the weekend on a very similar 23-page report on IT in Russia and resent that I can't get my Saturday and Sunday back.)
Good morning everyone. It is very warm in Ohio again!! I miss spring!!
I jacked my calories up to 1800 and hope to stabilize my weight- I know many of you don't want to hear it as you are having trouble maintaining. I feel like i have to stuff myself now to keep my weight from falling. Anyhow enough said.
Saef you are into some pretty heavy duty stuff there!!
Dagmar hope your back is better.
Warm here, too, after a weekend storm. There is snow on the mountain tops, but we'll be looking at around 80 today.
I'm golfing Friday with my in-laws! But then, DH gets to golf with them both Saturday and Sunday. Sigh. But I'll be entertaining my friend and DD those days.
My weigh-in from my weekend away resulted in a 2 pound gain, but I'm certain I'll get that off before the end of the week. I just need to concentrate on no alcohol until the weekend.
I have such a busy week! Today is grocery shopping after work. Tuesday I'll need to get the guest room ready for my friend. Wednesday I take the dog into a specialist to see why his elbow keeps swelling. Thursday I need to do laundry and Friday I golf in the morning and my DD and my BFF arrive for the weekend that evening. I wish I didn't have to work today.
I'm grouchy that I posted a long post yesterday and it disappeared so I'm starting over with the new week.
Brief synopsis-- we had dd's fundraising dinner/concert Saturday night. It went great but so much work and stress! Couple that with my lack of resolve with desserts and I went from 117 last Thursday to 123 yesterday! I *thought* I was good yesterday but I had one small dessert and some of the leftover food and today is 124. Not good. All of the dessert came to school with me and is in the break room. I predict it will be gone before 10 am. I brought two giant trays of brownies, cheesecakes, etc. Now I just need to refocus and stay away from the food leftovers. I truly had a bad sugar hangover Saturday night/ Sunday morning. Not pleasant!!
Hot hot hot day. I'm working a double today but the second shift is catering running food and beer to the "VIP" box seats for a Bruce Springsteen concert, so I'll be moving around and wincing at the mediocre music (not a big BOSS fan.)
Weekend was active and gluttonous, with a big mountain hike followed by big ice cream and big chicken wings (but only one beer, which is rare for me). My parents commented I looked slimmer when I visited home and their scale confirmed I am lighter than I have been since I got back from Japan, so that's nice.
A high of 74 degrees forecast for Northern Caliornia.
Michele, I have found when I eat those cookies or Danish, they are just never as good as they look, then I am mad at myself for wasting calories on them.

That is usually the case with me, but dd made them all from scratch. She is an amazing baker. Once I start, I can't stop. So, I can't start....
Hi folks! The weather was beautiful here this weekend aside from being super windy. I went for my run today and nearly got blown off the pavement. Yesterday's bike ride was luckily before the wind picked up too much but was still a bit of an adventure.
We got our dog sitter lined up finally. We met her Saturday and Carter loved her, and she was very professional and has good reviews on Angie's List, so we are going to fork over the extra $13/day more than our old sitter charged for her to take care of Carter. I realized that the price we're paying for dog sitting is comparable to hotel prices for our trip. Although I'm not sure I can get much of a hotel in London for $78/night.
Four travel things I need advice on, in case anyone here has suggestions:
1) Is Air Canada a good airline? What about Lufthansa?
2) Is an hour in Toronto long enough for an international layover?
3) Better to leave Indy at 3pm and arrive in London at 7:30am the next day, or leave Indy at 6:30am and arrive in London at 9pm? I'm trying to take into consideration extra time off work vs. time at destination, jet lag, etc.
4) Any suggestions for where to get a budget hotel in London?
I have flown Air canada but only from San Francisco to Montreal, had no problems in that short of a trip compared to yours. My DIL cousin lives in England , she reccomends British Airways and she and her husband fly a lot to US as well as other countries.
Jessica~we flew Air Canada from LAX to Vancouver a few years ago. It was a really nice flight--new plane and quite nice. We were disappointed on our return as it was thru Alaska Airlines--old, crowded, kind of dirty.
Lufthansa is an amazing airline but I think they work in conjunction with an American company (don't remember which one) and you are not necessarily guaranteed to be flying ON a Lufthansa owned plane. On Lufthansa, before you eat, they bring you a warm, hot rolled towel to wash up. All the drinks are free, too.
I've done both a redeye and a regular flight TO Europe. Because of the huge time change, I think the redeye is a bit better--you arrive with a full day to go over there which is usually enough to wear you out for a good first night's sleep.
As for the layover, I have no idea. That might warrant a call into a travel agent just to ask.
It's been such a long time since I've been to London, I have no idea where or how to search for a budget hotel. I know they exist, but be careful to notice whether you share a bathroom or not (they have a lot of old hotels where basically you get a room and the shared bathrooms are down the hall).
Up at 4:15 AM, to go to the gym, and then, succumbing to the blackest despair and not going, and sitting down to the laptop to work instead, to drink more coffee and to feel really, really bad.
Today's problem: An antique dealer in North Carolina is traveling north, delivering customers' purchases in Pennsylvania, New York area & New England. She plans to deliver a very beautiful chest of drawers to my apartment. Which was supposed to be finished. But which is, of course, unfinished, the drywall not even smoothed or the trim put in, as far as I know. She wants to deliver it next Tuesday. Next Tuesday, I'll be in Lancaster, PA, picking up a different piece of furniture. I have a nonrefundable hotel reservation there. What do I do? There is no one in my apartment complex who can take in a large expensive formally finished piece of furniture on my behalf and hang onto it for six weeks ... or however long it will take for my apartment to be habitable, which we still don't know yet.
And the usual issues at work. I have to run a meeting at 11 AM & hand out assignments. I've got five documents to review & tell the authors how to fix them. I've got two expedited documents to get out that devoured my day yesterday. And that 23-page report on IT in Brazil still hanging over me. The English on this one is particularly bad -- it has to be rewritten sentence by sentence.
I am not seeing much good in life just now. Just continual problem-solving.
saef, every day it is getting closer for your apartment to be finished and it is going to be beautiful with all the loving care and thought you are giving to furnish it. For your chest of drawers is there a storage unit nearby that would let her in ?
