15 minutes Stairmaster, aerobic intervals, resistance at six
60 minutes back and biceps routine
45 minutes arc trainer, hill intervals, resistance at nine
This morning my car door was frozen & I had to pour a mug of warm water on it to wrench it open. Of course there was window scraping as well, and a careful drive down the street, in which just one lane was plowed. But by the time I got back from the gym, the roads were down to wet pavement.
45 minute spin class, with some bikes empty as people sleep in on the President's Day holiday. This gym has a lot of teachers working out at the same time as I show up for my workout. I hear their talk in the locker room about various state requirements and upcoming holidays & etc. None of them were present this morning.
This is one of the few U.S. holidays that my company observes. Our last one was New Year's Day & the next one won't be until Memorial Day. So I'm hoping to luxuriate in a paid-for day that I didn't have to take off my hard-earned vacation tally.
No workout today. I feel incredibly guilty, but I'm trying to remind myself that, once, I vowed to take at least one day off each month. Let it be today. But let this not be the start of backsliding. (This was how I regained over 100 pounds, several decades ago.)

No guilt Saef. You will workout tomorrow. I didn't work out today either, but I plan on it tomorrow. We will both check in tomorrow.
After I decided I wouldn't go back out last night, I rallied again, and ended up heading to the gym, though ended my workout at 9 PM to come home & head for bed. It was a shorter workout than I usually do on upper body days:
Tuesday, Feb. 21:
15 minutes Stairmaster stepper, resistance at seven, which is easy now until toward the end
60 minutes shoulders, biceps & triceps routine
Usually I do cardio afterward, but I knew I needed to take myself to bed. I was working out alongside some boys who were maybe 12 or 14. Something like that. Thinking I could be their mother.
Wednesday, Feb. 22:
45 minute spin class with an male instructor filling in for our absent instructor, who has some serious car trouble. This guy was fond of jumps and riding standing up. Unfortunately I rode on one of those bikes whose pedals stick or skip, or whatever you want to call it, which are really unpleasant when one is in position two or position three. (A new person grabbed my usual bike.)
In other news, I'm now capable of doing a fairly decent shoulder stand during my stretches afterward. I graduated from the "legs on the wall" position to a full shoulder stand. It feels weirdly good along on the tense, tightened-up muscles along the nape of my neck.
15 minutes on Stairmaster stepper, aerobic intervals, resistance at eight, for warmup
60 minutes shoulders and triceps, with bench presses and pushups
45 minutes recumbent bike, resistance at eight, with about 30 minutes of this in one-minute intervals, which certainly woke me up out of my usual peddling stupor.
45 minute spin class, with bald-headed Alan, he of the sinewy leg muscles, who plays Bobby Darin's "Beyond the Sea" during the cool-down at the end of class.
This was one of those mornings where I looked at all the weather reports before heading out into the falling snow. And this time was rewarded for being intrepid, as the snow stopped falling even as I drove over the country roads toward the gym.
Saturday, Feb. 25:
15 minutes Stairmaster stepper, not quite working
30 minutes recumbent bike, very creaky
The extended-stay Marriott had, as usual, a tiny exercise room with outdated & worn-out equipment, and it was all I could do to make myself stay there for 45 minutes of subpar cardio.
Sunday, Feb. 26:
15 minutes Stairmaster, warmup
60 minutes shoulders and back
45 minutes arc trainer, hill intervals, resistance at nine
After my two hour & 20 minute drive, I went out to my usual gym, though this was really an act of will, as I wanted to lie around and recuperate. (What is it about driving that is so tiring, even though one is seated the whole time?)
Monday, Feb. 27:
45 minute spin class, the usual tough Monday with tabatas and heavy resistance, and me wondering if I'd make it through. The talk was all about a half-marathon run on Saturday during a snowstorm. The runners in spin class who'd done it said it was like running through sand.
