Wow. I have been in major gym withdrawal without realizing it. Worked out today with my headphones and on and totally rocked it. I wanted to go longer but it is my lunch break after all.
I'm thinking I might go ahead with my plan to buy a road bike even though I have the tailbone issue. If I get a bike with a less upright posture, I think my tailbone ought to be fine. My current bike is very upright and there is no way to not be upright since it has straight handlebars.
March 14:
- 18 mins total stationary bike at >=90rpm, somewhere around 4.5 miles
- core strength:
- hip circles on swiss ball 45 sec each direction
- marches swiss ball 1 min
- kicks swiss ball 1 min
- alternate arm/leg supermans swiss ball about 2 min
- 2x10 swiss ball crunches
- 2x10 swiss ball jackknifes
- 20 each side bicycles
- 5 min stretching
60 minutes arc trainer, hill intervals, resistance at 9
60 minutes circuit training class, which alternates cardio stations with weights and body weight exercises and Pilates moves
March 14: 60 minutes body pump class (was supposed to be boot camp but there was a sub and he did a body pump class-- was still good but different and I am so exhausted that I don't think I got a great workout)
15:06 rowing on the Concept 2 for 2,858 meters at 2:37 for 500 meters at 40 s/m, for a projected total of 5,711, which is not bad considering my butt is still tender where I rubbed it raw two days ago
60 minutes weights
45 minute spin class in the evening, a killer class. The woman just to my right, 20 years younger than me, made me push myself harder. I found out after class that she's a spin instructor, and was taking the class to see how our regular instructor cues various moves, so she can sub for another instructor on Sunday morning. Well, that explains it. And gives me some perspective on how hard I drive myself sometimes.
March 15:
- 3 min warmup stationary bike
- inchworms to warm up
- 3x10 push-ups using the smith machine at notch 6
- 3x10s hangs from pullup bar
- 2x10 lat pull downs, first set 70# second 65#
- an additional 15-20 mins or so of dancing around with a pair of 2# dumbbells and a swiss ball doing various things
- stretching
an additional 15-20 mins or so of dancing around with a pair of 2# dumbbells and a swiss ball doing various things
Some music for your next dancing around:
"Yeah, I'm sorry can't afford a Ferrari
But that don't mean I can't get you there.
Guess he's an Xbox and I'm more an Attari
But the way you play your game ain't fair.
I pity the fool who falls in love with you ...."
March 14: 60 minutes body pump class (was supposed to be boot camp but there was a sub and he did a body pump class-- was still good but different and I am so exhausted that I don't think I got a great workout)
Totals: 13 days
793 minutes
So...tired....just trying to get even minimal exercise in each day as I figure that is better than nothing....
LOL Saef, that would be a good workout song. I was rocking out to La Bouche ("Sweet Dreams"), Justin Timberlake ("Sexyback"), Shakira ("Hips Don't Lie"), Sting ("Desert Rose"), and some old school MC Hammer. Yup, that's right, I was doing crunches singing along to "Can't Touch This."

(I can't stop playing it myself on my iPod at the gym.)
I have never heard this song before today - love it. Thanks saef!
And Jessica, the older MC Hammer albums are a big part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. Love them, and often dance around the garage to them as well. Without parachute pants though, I'm not quite that cool. Yet.

My other favorite old school dorky rap songs are Snow's "Informer" and Vanilla Ice's "Ninja Rap" (from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II). Go ninja go ninja go! Go ninja go ninja go!
Here's something you might enjoy:
March 16:
stationary bike intervals:
- 5 min warmup level 5
- alternating 1 min hard (level 10) 2 min easy (level 4), all >=90rpm for 13 min
- 5 min cooldown
stretching
I love that. In fact, I almost love that enough to make it my avatar here.
Thursday, 17 March:
47 minutes on the arc trainer, intervals, resistance at 9
60 minute Pilates class
Utterly wiped out tonight. Worked all day on two fast-breaking pieces that published by 4 PM. Suddenly it's a big emergency to write about Japan & how it's going to affect the industry.
This means I had no time for the big report due Monday. There goes my weekend.
Shannon, so glad you like Cee Lo Green. You may recognize his wonderful voice. He sang lead in Gnarls Barkley's massive hit, "Crazy," which came out just a few years back. ("Maybe I'm crazy ... Possibly ....") There is a censored version of this song also doing well on the charts, called "Forget You." But I think it loses its bite when it's bleeped. And I love that video very much.
Birchie, just for you: Vintage "U Can't Touch This." No one has ever made better use of a stolen riff. (Yes, including Jay Z.) If you can dance through this whole thing & keep up with all the moves it includes, you will done a fairly decent cardio interval.
Thank you very much, saef. I just you people. You are from a different planet and I am an anthropologist. Thanks for letting me sit in.
No exercise or moving for days. I am paralysed (1) with the difficulty of finding data where there, actually, are none and (2) with the desire for things to improve for my uncle when it, actually, might not be possible. A walk, at least, would help. I must do that.
