GARLIC!

We love it around here and Angie uses it a little more freely than me...

in any case we blame ALL unwanted smells in the house on the dogs....

Years ago when I was about 19 or 20, taping drywall in track houses with a friend of mine, I noticed about every 4th house just reeked with a smell I didn't know....after about 5 of these houses I mentioned it to my buddy...

"What in the heck is that smell?...and why is it only in every 4th house or so?"

He just and said "GM that is garlic!"

The son and the dad that were hanging the drywall in the house were VERY Italian, which I didn't know at the time....I finally stood by them one day at the coffee truck....WOW!!

My mom never cooked with it...garlic powder and salt from time to time was all.

Angie taught me "garlic"....and a few other things

DAGMAR I am so sorry you are having such a rough year It always saddens me when those puppies pass on too with one of my goldens having arthritis issues now at 7 I feel so sorry for her...fortunately it is just starting.

Maybe that GARLIC will chase that evil energy away for you!

Be Good Maintainers.....

If I ever get my $&#* together I will join you again

I'm almost afraid to cook with garlic anymore, I've overdone it so many times. It seems to leave a metallic tang in the air that just lingers and lingers.
Of my 3 half-grown cats, two have been to the vet. One more to go. He may have wised up. He was missing this morning.

I'm off to see the plastic surgeon for my consult in a few minutes. I am so nervous. I go back and forth between thinking I am just being vain and I don't need anything done to thinking I am crazy not to do it. I'll check back in later with a report.

Dagmar - I'm sorry you are having such a hard year.

Gary - love the garlic!

Michele - hope the PS visit goes well. Don't feel vain. Do what feels right.

Good day everyone!

I spent my holiday working out, mixed compost into my garden and planted my fall veggies, and relaxed.

Mmm, I adore garlic. I definitely get it from my mom. Luckily my BF loves it too, so we eat it together and then it's ok. He will eat cloves of raw garlic, raw onion too. His onion breath gets really awful sometimes! He says it keeps him alive. In the summertime my mom makes a huge batch of basil pesto with tons of raw garlic. She will cook pasta and eat pesto every day for lunch for days in a row. One day a few years ago my Dad kissed her and told her she smelled funny (not sure what the exact wording was here...but really what man would say that? Dad's usually pretty intuitive). My mom didn't understand, apparently had brushed her teeth and didn't think she had BO or anything. She was really distraught and thought "after more than 20 years of marriage, the magic is gone and our body chemistries don't match anymore". Turns out it was just the garlic oozing out of her pores- apparently she ate a huge amount that week!

Michele, how did your consultation go?

Talking Tgif!!!

Michele IMO feeling and looking our best is not vanity. If getting the surgery will make your life better (in any way, including feeling great looking into a mirror) then go for it!

Gary If everyone who slipped a bit and regained a few lbs. were to drop out of this forum we'd be a pretty empty place! Please keep posting whenever you want.

Megan I envy you being able to harvest veggies all year round. I tried to grow some windowsill stuff last winter but there just isn't enough light up here (Pat will be laughing at me for this one).

I garlic too - use it (cooked though, as raw makes me physically ill) in a lot of things. I used to avoid the cloves due to all the peeling and chopping, but then I discovered the garlic press!

I used up pizza night on Wed. - guess I'll have to cook some "real" food tonite.

I have to work this evening so we'll probably have stir fry. I have discovered a version of the Vietnamese noodle bowl that uses up all our leftovers and bits of stuff from the crispers. And I bought myself a big bottle of fish sauce! (that should go well with the garlic )

Great Friday all!

I just got through reading an article on CNN that basically says in order to lose weight you need to eat less. Yeah, I know that, but my stomach doesn't agree! I'm sitting here with a grumbly tummy...

Sorry your day will be long and boring Megan. I'm rather bored here myself.

So we took Ringo into the vet this morning for his "operation." I don't think he knows what he's in for. Poor baby, I felt so bad when I heard him crying for his breakfast this morning. But DS let him in his closet and he found an old stuffed hippo and spent the next 20 minutes rolling around on the floor with that, so I think he forgot his hunger. I know he forgot it when we got him in the car. That cat simply hates car rides!

Going golfing for the first time this season tomorrow. It'll be 80 degrees and beautiful! I think Sunday we'll go see Unstoppable.

I started feeling sick last night and I'm sick today. I haven't been sick in months and I'm very grumpy about it. I'm glad that I don't have to work today but I have a huge to-do list and doubt I'll get much done. I hope I feel better tomorrow as I do have to work tomorrow morning.

Ringo will do fine. He won't notice what he's missing!

My appointment went well with the plastic surgeon yesterday. He is very nice and personable and his results look great. He was quite conservative in his recommendations. I'm pretty sure I want to do the tummy tuck but I'm leaning against the breast augmentation. I have plenty of time to decide as I'd like to do the surgery in the summer when I'm not working. There would be a lot to coordinate with dh as I'd be pretty helpless for a couple of weeks. And we have to figure out the costs but I would LOVE to do it.

I loooooooove garlic. OMG. I don't think I've ever eaten anything that I thought had too much garlic. Have you guys ever been to The Stinking Rose? It's a garlic restaurant.

Megan, at least it's Friday!

Michele, I'm glad your appointment went well and the doctor seems like a good guy.

Work is alternating between being super busy and super slow. It's kind of hectic. At the moment I'm waiting for someone else to finish something, but then it's going to be go go go again. I'm glad we're finally getting into development on this project because we had way too long of a lull between our last project and this one.

My technique of going into losing mode for a couple weeks, then going back to maintenance for a week, then repeating is working out well so far. I find I just can't handle the extra strict eating for more than about two weeks running, but after a week of more relaxed eating I can go back to it. I saw 135 on the scale today -- last time I saw that number was in 2007 before I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

So glad the PS consult went well, but I'm sorry you're sick. Get better soon!

The Stinking Rose! How funny. I remember driving through central CA a few years back--through Gilroy where they have the garlic festival. They say garlic ice cream is, um, unusual?

Food porn, food porn! I have eaten pumpkin ice cream and Guinness ice cream - both were unique but yummy!

Jessica I've been toying with the idea of doing the same thing you're doing with on/off diet/maintenance. Glad to hear it's working well for you.

I think mine will be in shorter bursts though. I can never seem to get beyond 5 days of restricted eating before I go bwahaha so I think I'll try 5 days diet/4 days maintenance.

Allison Ringo will be quite ok without his "equipment" and you won't be treated to the smell of male cat unrine in your house. Mishi did it once (the night before his neutering) and we were appalled by the stink. Worse than the garlic .

Michele The surgeon sounds good! Hope you're feeling better soon.

Megan Re the noodle bowl - there is no real recipe. I just cut up whatever leftover cooked meat is handy (usually chicken or pork), cut some sweet peppers and whatever veggies I have handy, dice an onion, and stir fry it all with some peanut sauce, grated ginger root, and a couple of shakes of fish sauce.

I boil some thin rice vermicelli, throw them in bowls, and then top them with the stir fry.
