Happy Canada Day!!!

I don't know why I'm so hungry! I had an egg sandwich only 2 hours ago. The protein and carbs should hold me longer than that!

We're looking at temps in excess of 114 today. Thank goodness it's supposed to "cool" down this weekend! DD is coming home for the weekend. I hope to hear more about her weekend in Vegas. I still have no idea why she went and who she was with. She might be bringing home a "friend." Again, no idea if this is a BF or just friend (she's known him for 2 years--same major at school).

I came to work this morning expecting a very slow, un-busy day and was so wrong! I spent an hour arranging our employee's next trip to Washington and then other little odd jobs here and there. And to think I brought a cruise brochure to study! Well, I did study it a bit. I just wish someone else would do the planning! I want to go. I just don't want to do the work...and make the decisions. It was so much easier when I went to Italy--my friend made ALL the decisions. All I did was pay her and show up! I think I need a personal assistant to make all my travel decisions (when to go, what places to go to, etc.).

Ok, that's it. I've got to go see what we have in the fridge...

Dagmar - I saw your post in the other thread, think you put it in the wrong week. The tired eye smiley fits you today after 14 days I'm sure! Sorry honey! Enjoy your fireworks, though!

Allison - busy is much better than not... My MIL went on two cruises a few years ago with her cousins, and I remember the hard work those guys put into planning excursions and such. Wowza. Is there a package deal you could buy? Have a good weekend with DD & 'friend'. Vegas? Did they elope? (kidding...)

Sheila - great job with the planning last night!

Jessica - I had read that protein article yesterday, too. Interesting. I feel much better when I have more protein, more alert, etc. I also feel like I run better. Though, it has been suggested by family and medical professionals that I have a slightly higher than normal testosterone level for a woman, I build muscle pretty quickly (not bulky, just visible fast from what most would consider minimal work), have a higher level on blood work, etc. Wonder if that is why? Though, I do have some pretty solid estrogen related hormone jags... Hmm...

Susan - you can have some of our summer... there is too much here. It wears me out getting from my office to the car some days in the heat...

I did great with food Tuesday & Wednesday, did pretty good today. Made a flatbread veggie pizza for lunch, then wasted 175 afternoon snack calories on candy instead of the nice pb&j I had planned. I have actually called off my scheduled light run because I am s-o-r-e from yesterday's exercise, so it is okay. I did some power yoga (is it normal to hit a heart rate of 162 during yoga? overtraining sign again? ) and DH & I are going to wash the cars. Ah, he just got home... away to wash...

Shannon - could you please send some summer this way!! I just saw a woman in Home Depot with a parka and boots on
My outdoor thermometer reads 64F - ugh!!
Summer is short enough already - need some sun before winter rolls round again.

So - i signed up for next year's 1/2 marathon - they sent a survey and offered $10 off registration after completion - so i went for it.
Put an estimated finish time of 2:05....i have a whole year to train.
I would like to eventually do it in under 2hrs...but lets not get crazy here.

I am taking a break from running until Sunday - doing the 30 day shred instead for a change of pace.

Ok - i will sit and wait for you to send that sun/heat Shannon.

Summer here is 114 degrees....I"d love to send you some susan!!!

So my extreme hunger was something different. I ate at apple at 10 AM and was still hungry but ignored it. At noon my tummy was all queasy, but I ate lunch anyway but felt icky the whole time. Two hours later still icky so I went home and had a bunch of Malox and a Sprite (full cal! YIKES). That made me feel better and now I'm fine. Very weird.

Alinell, I hope you are feeling better.

We are in the mid of a heatwave overhere. Temperatures around 33C predicted for today and no rain last week or for the next 2 weeks. I guess this is when I install my watering lines that I have been planning the past years.

Food is bad, exercise little: I'm swimming in my pool almost everyday, and I biked to the next village & back yesterday for DS graduation ceremony. It feels strange to have him grown up all off a sudden, and now DD is in puberty too. There were a lot of comments and mortification from her yesterday...guess we'll all have to go through that.

have a great day all,
Rabbit

I'm bummed today because I've managed to run every day while in Houston but we are getting massive rains from Hurricane Alex. I made it out yesterday before the rains started but it's not looking likely today. Yesterday was my worst day food wise with decadent lunch and dinner and we're eating out tonight as well. I REALLY wanted to get my run in. I'm sitting in my running clothes stubbornly believing the thunder/lightening and torrential downpours may magically stop. Sigh.....

I go back home Sunday morning. Back to reality.

Shannon, I will take your summer. The high is 69 today. I mentioned to DH as I started a fire in the wood stove that we have never had a fire in July. This weather is insane.

Dagmar, I too saw your post in the other thread. I’m sorry you’re stuck an extra day. I hope your clients come home today. That was a LONG dogsit.

Allison, I was wondering the elope idea as well. Perhaps you should bring your Italy friend with on your cruise and let her plan it. I hope you feel better. If you want cooler, head north a bit. Sznn, Sheila and I will be glad to share our cold summer.

Sheila, I don’t even find Bambi a nuisance. I make sure I buy plants Bambi isn’t supposed to like then put fences around them. I love watching them. They’re so adorable and graceful I can watch them all day. And I thought of you this morning not pouring past your ¾ c. mark for the wine when I was making my mocha. I so much wanted to make it bigger. But since you were stellar, I wanted to be as well.

Sznn, great job signing up for the ½ marathon again. I bet you knock your under 2 hours off it’s rocker. I’m betting on a 1:57 time for you.

Rabbit, eeks when the children grow up. It certainly changes life’s perspectives.

Michele, picturing you sitting in your running attire waiting for the hurricane to give you a break. I hope you get your reprieve.

This week has been yucky health wise. I’ve known for about a month my asthma was not “in control”. It wasn’t horrible but not good. I went to see my dr. on Tuesday and I’m breathing fine. Pulse ox at 99%. I’m explaining that it is when I do HIIT exercise that I’m having so much problem and am sucking my rescue inhaler at least daily. So we go for a walk down the hallway with the pulse ox thingie. It drops like a lead balloon. I guess I was proved correct. So he changed my Advair prescription. Then I mentioned my shoulder (the one I went to PT for a month). I told him the hard pain was gone as long as I didn’t use my arm above shoulder level. He re-examines it and has now referred me to an ortho surgeon. He believes the bicep tendon is catching on a bone spur. He did say the surgery to smooth it out was simple. But… yuck! And now I have a cold and sore throat. Luckily I think the contagious part is past because DD and DGS are visiting for a long weekend. So many plans and so little energy. I have a five day weekend and that is good.

A question for my fellow chickies… I skipped my elliptical workout yesterday. I came home from work yesterday and took a nap instead. I’d walked 1.5 hilly miles with the doggies in the morning and knew a day off was ok. Today I’ve done the walk again. When you’re not feeling well, do you all knock off the high intensity exercise? I’m just not good at it. I feel guilty for yesterday and the thought of skipping the HIIT treadmill workout seems wrong. BTW, none of the cold is in my chest where I know hard exercise is a no-no. What do all you do?

Marie~my MIL had that shoulder surgery last year and it was really simple. Just one or two tiny insertion points, she was in a sling for a couple of weeks and did PT but she said it was a breeze compared to the other shoulder that they said was a minor thing and turned out to be a rotator cuff repair. She said the pain from that surgery was worse than the original pain. Good luck, I'm sure it'll go fine for you.

And yes, when I'm not feeling well I do take time off from working out and you shouldn't feel too guilty about it. It's your body's way of saying it needs to heal.

So yesterday I went home early, took some Maalox and drank a sprite and felt just fine within an hour or so (after burping a bit). I have no idea what caused it. I never really felt sick, I just felt "off."

So DD is home and no, she didn't elope! She just went to Vegas with 3 of her guy friends and watched them gamble. She's not old enough to gamble but she is old enough that they didn't kick her out of the casinos. She didn't bring her friend and she hasn't said much more about it (although on her blog she mentioned something about sending a love letter to someone...).

My Italy friend is already planning something for me, DH, herself and her BF as soon as he arrives back in the states. He's been living in Australia for some time, working for Microsoft, but is being transferred back to Redmon WA, so she's planning a get-together so we can meet him (although we all went to college together and I kind of remember him). I don't think her finances are such that she could afford a cruise right now, so I'll be on my own to plan it...or not.

Happy Friday everyone! Have a fun and safe holiday weekend.

Happy Canada Day to the Canadians and Happy 4th of July (in advance) to the Americans!

I had an all-day meeting today. Luckily my boss who was running the meeting is leaving for the holiday weekend and was like, it's 4:00, I have a long drive, meeting over, go home. So, I'm still at work at the moment but once I'm done checking 3fc I'll be off.

Allison, how is your stomach doing today?

Marie, I take it easy when I'm not feeling well for sure. I think that exercising when you're not well delays your recovery time.

This weekend will be busy -- DH has a race tomorrow morning, I have two long (90-120 min) workouts scheduled, and of course it's the 4th. At least we get Monday off! I need to go to the park my upcoming triathlon is at to check out the hills and swim in the reservoir but I can't decide whether to go Saturday afternoon, when I'm scheduled for a brick of 1 hr bike + 30 min run and just add on my 30 min swim, or Sunday when I'm scheduled for 90 min bike and add on the 30 min swim. I can do the swim either day. Saturday is more convenient, but I don't know if I really want to do a triathlon two weeks before my official triathlon! Then Sunday is the 4th, the reservoir swimming doesn't open until noon, etc. etc. Oh well, I'll figure something out.

Jessica - sounds like today would work better for the swim. I wouldn't want to be trying to hassle with it in the 4th. So, I'm bummed - my city does a women's sprint tri every year that I swore last year I was going to do this year. Well, I totally forgot about it and it is in 3 weeks. Maybe next year...

Allison - glad there was no eloping!

Marie - I tend to continue the hard exercise even when I'm sick, which I know has contributed to my recent string of workout/ bottom out burnout/ workout/ burnout cycles. I have to get myself into a pattern if learning when to slow down. Take a break if you are sick, keep the exercise lighter than normal. You'll be happier in the long run.

Michele - I would totally do the same thing and try to wait out the storm. Though if it is hurricane storming it might take a while. Good job running while you have been gone!

Rabbit - graduation and puberty together.... Fun. My DSS has recently learned "hello..." in that sarcastic tone ("hello, I already did that before" for example) and rolling his eyes. We are looking at loads if fun with that...

Susan - congrats in signin up for the race gain! I did the same thing - greatly discounted rate the week after the race. This way I'm already committed and can't talk myself out of it.

I am totally not ready for my 10k tomorrow. I'm up in weight, haven't trained enough, haven't had enough carbs this week. It is going to be U-G-L-Y but I am going to go anyway. I figure it isn't meant to be a great PR or anything anyway with 50,000 runners...

Marie-- sorry you are experiencing so many health issues. I hope they are resolved quickly.

Shannon-- good luck on your run!

We go back home tomorrow. The weather is better today so I did run today. I'll be very curious as to what my weight is when I get home. I haven't weighed myself in 2 weeks-- haven't done that (or not done that!) in years!! Ideally I won't be up (ha) but I'm just hoping I'm not up more than a few pounds. My clothes seem to be fitting more or less so I'm hoping that's a good sign.

A cloudy rainy day here, and supposed to be that way for several more days. Guess I'll be working out indoors!

We don't usually do anything for the 4th anyway. It's too light here (still over 19 hours of daylight) for fireworks, we don't want to face the traffic on the roads (it's prime salmon fishing season; plus tons of tourists in RVs ), so at most we get togethre with friends for a BBQ. I think we're going to ANchorage tonight for a square dance.

I've been better about exercising this week - helps that I have a new routine - and I can feel it. This is a good thing!

Marie - hope you fell better soon - BTW there is a rumour that summer might show up next week in this next of the woods

Shannon - good luck on your run tomorrow - have fun!!
I should have reregistered for the 1/2 @ the expo...but i wanted to see how it went first.
That was they only time they offered a discount - then the price shot up, that is why i took advantage of the $10 off.

I went for a 1hr hike - straight up, yesterday, and did the 30 day shred this am.
Thinking of going for a 10k tomorrow AM - there you go Shannon, you can pretend i am right there running with you.

Susan - I actually registered for the full marathon for next year... The registration opened at 5am the Tuesday after the race and I was able to register for the full at less than half of what I paid for the half last year. When I inevitably decide to change back to the half it will cost me $10 more dollars which will still be only half what I paid last year. Hey, thanks for the 10k support in the morning! I'll picture you right there so I feel like I know someone in that crowd!

Michele - safe travel tomorrow! The roads will be messy...

Pat - glad you like the new exercise routine!

Happy fourth everyone!
