I often do the "if I don't log it it doesn't count" magic, particularly if I'm watching TV and eating a whole bag of snacks.

The best (and funniest) instance of this I've ever heard came from comedian Dom Deluise. He travelled a great deal and had rationalized himself into almost believing that whatever he consumed in the air "didn't count" because he wasn't on the ground. He revealed this on a talk show after losing a bunch of weight.

I think I will rebag my TV snacks in 100 calorie portions in baggies with accurate calorie counts written on them.

And I love "bite it- write it"!

Yesterday I cracked down on calorie creep. I measured and recorded every 1/4 cup of milk in coffee, the breading on my chicken, an extra slice of fat free cheese, etc. Nothing was over 25cal or so, but it all added up to 140 calories. 140 calories that otherwise would NOT have been recorded. Seeing those numbers and being honest with myself makes me reevaluate the value of the little extras. I'd much rather have 140 calories of "real" food than little extra bites and additions throughout the day. That's a whole extra snack.

I'm glad I'm stopping the calorie creep habit, I don't feel guilty because I know everything is accounted for

Good job on not only being honest and aware of the calorie creep, but also tackling it!

I still count every calorie; especially if I'm having a treat or food I don't normally eat. It really helps me stay in control and only eat one portion.

Awesome. This is how you do it! Stay out of the isle of denial. That is why *I* need to weigh and record daily, forever.

You have a very good and important point!

But, if I may also make a suggestion? After you record the "extras " for a few days , do you notice its consistently around the 150 cal mark? If so, and you continue losing (you look fabulous, btw)
why not factor that into your calories for the day? As in, if you were sticking to 1400 cals for the day, you would bump your target to 1550. That way you stay accountable AND you still get to enjoy the milk and honey

Ok, sorry just read your second posting. If you'd consciously rather have a snack thats great. But if your dab of honey transforms your "meh" oatmeal into "omg" oatmeal than its worthwhile, kwim? Sometimes on paper it
doesnt seem like a good calorie value, but if it makes a big difference to YOU then it matters.
For example , I can drink a skinny latte and be happy as a clam (skim milk)
but with a "regular" coffee, I need at least cereal cream (I think its called half and half in the states). It makes a huge difference for me. Some people may think those 40 calories are a waste, or a bad value. But going from a barely drinkable to a superior cup is so worth it
JMO, anyhow

I kinda do that,
I was so obsessed with meausring and counting foods! It really was so stressful on me!
I measured out 3/4 cup cereal, and 1/3 cup soy milk for my cereal, when I cute some bread off the loaf, I always outline the bread with the knife to divide it into 8 slices, I measured peanut butter, fruit, veggies, etc.

I'm tryin gto quit though, and am doing pretty well,
It's really not good mentally, well, not for me anyway, and now I add more milk to my cereal, I eat more, and add more. I even had a buttered enlglish muffin yesterday with breakfast!! Which is HUGE!

As long as the scale doesn't go upl, I'm okay with it...If it does, then I need to fix it. I typically don't eat junk food though, usually my snacks are fruit or veggies or nuts
