So the shoulder pain is coming from a broken neck. Long story. Still sort of in a tailspin and freaked out to exercise (even though current medical team reassures me that there is no current risk with broken neck).

Yesterday:

B - Sandwich w/ 2 sl light bread, toasted, with cream cheese and roast beef.
S - 1/4 cup nuts and dried fruit mix
L - Roast beef sandwich on small sourdough roll, bowl of black bean soup
S - Toasted english muffin w/ light cheese, pizza sauce
D - WW Penne w/ grilled chicken, roasted squash, tomatoes, and red onion, and a pesto sauce made without nuts and with mostly chicken broth instead of oil...basically just basil, garlic, shallot, and a few tbsp of parmesan).
S - NSA Frozen Yogurt w/ sprinkles

E - 60 min cardio

Plan for today:

B - Protein shake
S - WW tortilla, roast beef, lf whipped cream cheese rollup.
L - Tuna melt on bagel thin
S - Greek yogurt w/ berries
D - Long bean and pork stirfry over brown jasmine rice.
S - NSA Ice Cream

E - 70 min cardio, 60 min strength

So, no lifting on UB until after MRI, and I was at doctor during lifting time. Luckily I hardly ate today (stressed about my neck), so at least I wasn't relying on that extra calorie burn.

Wednesday - Day 8 on plan
A little more of a challenge, we are attending a high school graduation in the morning, then meeting for a "celebration lunch" at a seafood restaurant in San Diego. My friend couldn't remember the name today, so I wasn't able to research my healthy option in advance. I am sure it will be just fine, I will get some kind of baked/broiled/grilled fish and veggies.

B - Trader Joe's fat free yogurt with honey, 1/2 package of sliced strawberries

L - mystery lunch, goal is 500 calories, will update later
It was easy. I got a yellowtail sashimi salad with cucumbers, greens and a little avocado. I asked for the dressing on the side. Definitely came in under 500.

S - tangelo (100 calories)

S - grande non fat latte (120 calories)

D - small steak, steamed green beans, corn on the cob (500 calories?)

Amanda, I've been following your broken neck saga on Facebook. Ouch! When you took the xray back to your other doctors (I assume the orthopedic surgeon) what did they say? Are they going to do surgery on it?

Doctor said he was "surprised". And that this was "unexpected". It was actually my primary care doc, ortho appts were 2 weeks out, and he could request the MRI just as easily. So, yeah. I mean, its not like he can apologize (hello, opening for a lawsuit) but he looked SHOCKED.

I keep not eating until 11am or so because stress makes me nauseous. As do painkillers. Can't wait to get an MRI and hopefully get on the road to fixing this...all indications are that either a herniated disc, slipped disc, abnormal neck curvature due to whiplash-like trauma, or (worst case) a broken piece of spine is pressing on the nerves at or near my left brachial plexus, leading to shooting pain down my arm and in my shoulder, and some loss of grip strength.

The broken bone part (in case there are medical nerds out there) is the spinous process on my T1 vertebra. Breaking it is not that dangerous by itself (but that alone explains some of the severe pain after the fall). The problem is, to break that, you have to exert some serious force on the spine, so it generally isn't seen by itself, and is generally associated with other injuries happening at the same time.

ANYWAY...

Today:

B - WW tortilla w/ cream cheese, 1 piece uncured roast beef from TJs (sooo good).
L - Leftover pork and long bean stirfry with black jasmine rice (I am in LOVE with this rice, PS, found it in the bulk bins at Whole Foods and OMG. So delicious).
S - Popcorn
D - Big salad w/ grilled chicken, grilled veggies, a few croutons, a few olives, LF dressing
S - NSA ice cream

E - 80 min cardio

Gosh Amanda.

Actually, this injury used to be seen in isolation as "clay shoveler's fracture."

Definitely no UB lifting!

The MRI may show the extent of the injury, if it's beyond just the spinous process--but a lot of time has passed. The usual treatment used to be immobilization for a set period.

I sure hope you can get some resolution of the pain. And I would think about malpractice... A radiologist should not have missed this, I would think.

Hijack over.

Jay

Friday- day 10 on plan

B - cottage cheese with pineapple (200 calories)

L - Big salad - romaine and roma tomatoes from the farmer's market (just beautiful!), 80 calories of goat cheese, red cabbage, carrot shreddies, grilled chicken, lite basalmic vinaigrette dressing, a few crunchy onions (about 500 calories).

S - tangelo (100 calories)

S - tall non fat latte (100 calories)

D - Update - was at work super late and didn't make it home in time to make dinner. Hit Stir Fresh and stayed on plan. I had about 200 calories of rice and a huge pile of veggies (broccoli, spinach, carrots, onion, mushroom, water chestnut, 4 baby corn) with 10 shrimp. I feel confident that even though I am not 100% sure of the calorie count of the sauces, I was under 500 calories for the whole meal. Very yummy! We will have the beautiful pork chops for dinner tomorrow.

275 calories, 2.25 miles - treadmill
