I was thinking the same thing as ddc. Maybe you need some workout clothes with more structure and defination! But your second pic with you hair down looks fab!

I so love giving mho.....thanks for asking, MindiV! ;)

1st. You look maaahhhhvelous, dahling.

2nd, I am seriously envious of your upper arms AND your hair. I could not get anything looking close to either of those attributes without some serious intervention.

3rd, and please, please, this is an oversimplification and a generalization from magazines which still tend for the most part to stress women being on the thin side. The rule of thumb that is simple to use as a little point of reference is that you should weight 100#s for the first 5 feet, and then 5#s for each additional inch. Again, I stress, just one generalization. At 5'8.5", that would make your "ideal" weight ~142.5#s. I know that for me, at 5'7.5", when I weighted 138#s, it was pretty ideal. When people told me I was too thin, I took it with a grain of salt because after an 80# loss, it was a pretty big change.

I can so relate to the "big boned" notion. I always thought I was too, and because I carried alot of wt. in my arms and shoulders and kinda straight up and down, people always said that too. After losing the wt. I realized I was medium, perhaps even small boned. Who knew? I don't think it matters much. What counts is health and fitness, and you obviously have that figured out.

Congratulations on great success and best wishes for your continued healthy journey.

Mindy - you look great! Ignore those folk that say otherwise.

I've had similar comments and brush them off saying, "Thanks for your concern. But I'm right where my doctor thinks I should be." That stops the conversation - dead.

If I'm feeling a tad mean (which isn't often), I will then prattle on about how nice it is to find clothing in my size on the sale rack

I think you look fabulous! :cb: :broc: You actually look quite healthy to me; I can't imagine that people think you look sick. Your arms look great--toned and strong, not sickly at all.

I don't think I've ever had anyone tell me that I'm too thin, but I've heard people say it about others. Personally, IMHO, it seems to me that the people that make these "too thin" comments are often people that are overweight themselves. I think it's a way of trying to reassure themselves that they aren't as overweight as they fear.

Another thing you might tell people when they make comments like this is that you right in the middle of what is considered a healthy BMI for your height.

Mindi~I think you look great! We're basically the same height (I'm 5'8") and I REALLY feel good at about 140 and it is (was) easy for me to maintain that (I stayed for a couple of years and really need to get back there). At one point I was down to 128 and everyone then said I was too skinny (and I couldn't maintain it at all).

You look slim, but it looks like that it just your body type.

You don't look like those celebrities with bobble heads that are starving themselves.

you look normal and healthy and slim.

How do you feel? Do you eat healthfully? Do you eat enough? I think those are more important things to consider than what size you are.

People are healthy at different sizes, some larger and some smaller. I have been both too heavy and too thin, and I knew when I was too thin that I was not eating enough or taking care of myself. Listen to YOURSELF and your body; don't go by what anyone else says. :)

I feel like I eat TOO much, bluebird....but I'm holding steady so I think it's ok... :)

You look marvelous. I wouldn't lose any more than that. I get the same thing.

fiberlover 02-18-2009 11:19 AM

I think you look good. Your hips are very slender, and you are tall - so you have a 'willowy' appearance, which is probably what people are commenting on in the wrong way.
I wouldn't lose any more weight, though.

rileyozzy 02-18-2009 11:38 AM

I think that people feel that it is socially acceptable to comment on your weight if you are pregnant or if you have lost a considerable amount of weight. It drives me crazy.
