recidivist - how does one go about checking body fat?

bargoo 02-12-2009 04:44 PM

If you are 140 now you are right in the middle of a healthy weight range for your height. I don't think you need to lose another pound. You look great now. P.S. I would kill to have your upper arms .

Mindi - I want your hair!

I've had a hard time with the maintenance balance myself -kept losing for ten pounds past goal and had to work really hard to stop it. I remember your post about still losing and asking about maintaining on 2000 calories with a small amount of exercise, so I knew you were having a tough time with the balance, too.

I'll post a pic of me in workout clothes later for the same honest opinion - oddly, a coworker just asked me if I was sick and that was why I was losing weight. And I just added 2.5 pounds of artificial boob weight. :)

I have never done the body fat measurements, so I don't really know how to do it, but I'm sure there is a lot of info on the internets.

I personally think you look great. But I would ask YOU, how do YOU think you look? And more importnatly, how do YOU feel? Because your opinion is the one that really counts and really matters.

I get comments all the time. I basically tune them out and do what I think is best for myself. Because no one knows *me*, better them ME.

Mindi - IMO, the only people who have any right to talk about you being "too thin" are you and your doctor. If you're happy, and your doctor is happy, I'd say just that to the naysayers - "Interesting thought. My doctor and I are pretty happy with my weight goals, but I'll consider it".

JayEll 02-12-2009 06:29 PM

What they said! ^^^

You look great. Your weight is incorrect on the left of your posts--I would say at 140, you are just right given your height! If I were at 140, I'd be pleased as punch! (And I'm shorter.)

If you are concerned, I'd say (much as mandalinn has already said) ask your doctor at your next check-up. He or she would have a lot more valid input than any of us.

I think you look great as you are. Maybe you're getting comments because other people aren't used yet to seeing you at this weight?

And as others have said, if your doctor is not worried about it, then it's probably a good sign that things are okay.

This is supposed to be the formula the US Navy uses.

I think you look fine, and eventually, as people update their mental picture of what you're "supposed" to look like in their head, the comments will stop.

MindiV 02-13-2009 08:39 AM

Thanks, y'all!

I think I look ok...I'd rather have more in the boob department, but other than that I'm happy. No ribs or backbone showing (had to check last night!)....

bargoo 02-13-2009 09:24 AM

I don't know why it is, but people just seem to be compelled to make comments to a successful dieter. I try to get to another subject as quickly as possible so I don't have to hear it.

I get the "too thin" stuff too sometimes, which frustrates me. I'm such a pear, my top half is pretty thin (thin face, very prominent collar bones, I can see my ribs when I stretch up), but I still have a belly, hips and big thighs. I have a hard time getting my bottom half to look okay without emaciating my upper half.

I think you look lovely and I am very jealous of your slender hips :)

Mrs Snark 02-13-2009 11:27 AM

In my opinion, you look fabulous. If I saw you on the street I would simply think you are an attractive, fit woman. I would never think "too thin".

Great job, you should be proud of your hard work and enjoy the benefits!

Have you bought new clothes for your new size?

Maybe if your clothes are "hanging" on you, and loose, it could make you appear more skinny.
