I wish I was off Monday too!
Good luck to all the folks getting tests done. Lily - we are also refinancing. Right now we're on a 30-yr fixed at 6.125%, but they're offering us a 30-yr fixed at 4.25% so it should pay for itself in three years (according to DH who did all the calculations). Talk about bundling up from the cold -- it was 14 in our garage this morning. My hands got numb walking from the door to the car! I skipped going to the gym last night because I was afraid of the car breaking down on the way and me freezing to death while waiting for help. :p I wish my gym wasn't half an hour away. I ended up not working out at all last night since I'm still so sore from my previous workouts this week and I only have DVDs at home that are strength-related. I have to say, guys, the temptation to buy a treadmill is mounting. Or a stationary bike. Or something. Thanks to the weather I've only been getting outside to run once a week lately, and my triathlon is coming up in April. DH is dead set against buying any equipment though (except for dumbbells, we have plenty of those). There have been more news stories about our neighbor's son who died. Now they are suspecting that it may have been a hit and run accident, since his injuries were unusually extensive for a slip-and-fall. I don't really want to believe it. As tragic as slipping and falling would have been, hit and run is worse. The only scenarios I can think of would be that either a very nasty person lives in our neighborhood, or it was a drunk driver (in our neighborhood at 6:30am on a weekday?), or it was a teen driver who was too scared to report it. The thing that amazes me though is that despite this tragic death, I still see kids running in the middle of the street. We have sidewalks! Stay on them! Parents, why are you walking your kids to the bus stop in the middle of the street? Don't you want to teach them better than that?? Maybe it's because I grew up in LA, but we didn't have much traffic in our neighborhood and my mom taught me NEVER to walk in the street. |
Jessica - ooo, hit and run would be really bad... I can't imagine a drunk driver at 6:30 am, teenager makes sense but that I sure hope not. One of my in high school actual hit a boy while speeding and not paying attention, he never recovered from it. Died in a car accident when he was 19 - I always wondered if he just shut down after hitting the boy at 17 and stopped caring... I grew up in a small town and I never walk in the street, either. Amazon.com had some great deals earlier this week on stationary bikes, by the way. Don't know if they are still going on or not...

Hey! I got some great news about my health insurance today! I don't want to double-post, so link over here:
http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161764 :cheer2: Jay |
Hey Jay, that's really cool! Nice bonus for all your hard work. :high:
Of course, what you've also done for your health is priceless. :D |
 Morning. It's still in the 40's here this morning. I was able to wear my fleece jacket instead of my down parka! :) Feels much more like winter in Seattle (where I have lived). Our snow is disappearing fast. Yesterday was so overcast and showery and that helped too. My cats were running between the doors to outside this morning begging to go out. I told DH to let them out after it was light. The deck is completely clear of snow now, so they can hang out there and stay dry.
Sheila - my cats are the same. I am definitely second choice if DH is in the house! One is not a lap sitter but the other will be on DH any time he sits or lays down. Scary about your eyes. I hope things go well with the testing. And  to Michele and Bargoo too! About the no-shows, in my book there is not excuse for not calling and saying you're not coming - for whatever reason, car trouble, changed your mind, etc. Oh well, we hired one of the other three and he'll start next week. Jay - good deal on your lower insurance! While I'm covered by my employer, I can appreciate what it means to have your payments lower. The City is considering adding a wellness incentive in our medical policy. I'm hoping that might mean that they'd pay some of my gym membership! Our square dance club is having an ice cream social tonight  I'm off to look up various calorie counts and see if I can manage a 1/2 cup without toppings, unless of course they have fruit. Hmmmm, I should bring some fruit then I'd know what I could eat. Have a great day, all. It's payday for me, so a good thing. :) |

Happy Weekend everyone! I think it's supposed to be a balmy 18 degrees here today. That is going to feel good after -21 yesterday!
Going to work hard at being on plan this weekend. DH is on the healthy eating bandwagon now, so it really makes it much easier for me. phew. Anyone watching football tomorrow? |
We're going to watch Slumdog Millionaire tomorrow, but will Tivo the football games unless they're on later.
Today is golf followed by grocery store and then DD and I will go get pedicures. |
We are DVRing football to watch after DSS goes back to his mom tomorrow night...
It is 36 degrees here now, up from the17 it was this morning... :( DH seems to be coming down with a cold - he woke up yesterday a little out of it, today pretty darn sick feeling. DSS seems to have picked it up this morning, also. That is freaking me out a little with surgery coming up on Thursday... Everybody tells me I'll be totally dependent on him for 24-48 hours after surgery, and he isn't a good sick person in the best of situations... And, I can't have excess amount of Vitamin C between now and the surgery, so I'm nervous about coming down with it myself... It is pushing me very quickly out onto that crazy ledge I get on sometimes. Trying hard to come back down. I'm planning on running this afternoon and hope that will take the edge off a little... |

Jay Ell, that's wonderful news about the health insurance! And great news that your "real" age is younger by a decade!
Jessica, that's so sad about the neighbor boy. I can't even begin to understand what the parents are going through. I think buying a treadmill or bike for those frigid days when you don't want to go to the gym (or it's dangerous to travel) is a great idea if you've got the cash and the room. The room for a treadmill would be my challenge. Pat, good luck at the ice cream social. Bringing your own fruit sounds like a good idea. Hopefully you'll be dancing, too, so you can burn off any ice cream you might eat. Lots of drugs, a lavendar-scented eye pillow and my DH holding my foot made the dreaded MRI bearable. The call at 6:00 pm saying I needed to go to the ER to get a huge dose of steroids was not as bearable. We were there until 10:00 pm. And, after getting stuck twice, I have a big IV thing in my arm because I have to go back tonight and Sunday night. On the plus side, I think they're working because the vision in my eye is coming back. So I guess that's worth hanging out in the ER. You know the thing I was worried about with the steroids--gaining weight. The doc said that because it's not over a prolonged period of time, I shouldn't have that issue. Whew! Monday I was scheduled to see my movement disorders neurologist anyway so I'll see if she can figure out whether or not I have MS--that's still up in the air, but I really don't think I do. And I'm staying away from looking at symptoms on the internet. :-) That won't do much good. Spending the weekend just nesting, I think. My son, his GF, and my DGD were coming for dinner, but I have to go spend hours in the ER in the evening so hopefully they'll come for lunch. I've gotta spend some quality grandma time with my little sweetpea. I probably posted this before, but I love this photo of my DGD on Christmas Eve. |
Shelia - She is just gorgeous! Sorry about the ER visit last night... hope you visit Monday goes well. I agree on staying away from symptoms on the internet - no need to work yourself up over the 'maybe this, maybe that' that you would find...

Shannon,
Breathe and relax........take a run........take a bubble bath......light some scented candles. You sound just like me. I would totally be like you are right now. Take good care of yourself and you shouldn't catch it and dh will be better by then-- so you are fine... Do you have any local friends or family that can come by if you need or want a little more support? I was happy with my WI this morning. I had been creeping up a bit the last few weeks but I was back down this morning at Weight Watchers. I was good about journaling and I got plenty of exercise in. I need to change my profile weight as I seem to be consistently at 125 rather than 126 these days. I wonder if I should also change my goal (135) as I don't think I would still be happy there. Of course we are never happy. I am a school librarian and I sit in a rocking chair to read to the kids. I had been noticing that my back bone was hurting when I was reading and I looked at my back last night-- it is positively bony with each bone sticking out. The front of me still has a pooch! UGH! Why can't the body just be proportional. I am also still debating placement of my tattoo. I was going to get one with dd when she turned 18 but I have to wait until the doctor clears me (she got hers and will go with me at her spring break if I am cleared). I was thinking of putting it on my back but now I am thinking it looks too bony.... hmmmm.... I originally had wanted it on my hip but I have ugly stretch marks and loose skin there. Decisions, decisions. I had my medical test yesterday (Cat Scan of the abdomen to check liver, kidneys, etc.) and I am also trying to stay positive and not read anything on the internet until I hear back from the doctor. I made the mistake of looking at my orders and looking up what she is trying to rule out-- good lord..... My dh has been out of the country again and returns tonight. Maybe we can actually get down our Christmas decorations tomorrow. I just feel tired, sleepy and worn out today. Hopefully I will get motivated later. I had my Weight Watchers training to be a receptionist but there haven't been any openings yet and I feel like I'm forgetting my training. I got a call to fill-in for a meeting tomorrow so I am excited. Hope everyone's weekends (long weekend for those of us who have Monday off-- me and dd but not dh) are productive, happy, healthy, and OP. |
Sheila, I'm glad your eye is getting better. Sorry about the steroids though, but I agree with the Dr., there shouldn't be much if any temporary weight gain since you won't be on them for a prolonged time.
I made it to the gym yesterday. My workout was frustrating because I felt very weak and had to force myself through it. This morning I awoke with a raving sinus/upper resp. junk and figure this is why I was so weak yesterday. If this continues, I'll go see my Dr. on Monday (if possible). I'm a little irritated at DH. He went to the Dr. on Thursday for a rash all over his back and stomach. He asked the Dr. for Levitra! Duh, he doesn't need it and now he won't leave me alone! Oh, he did get diagnosed with eczema and got some cream for his rash. (to top it all off our insurance doesn't cover Levitra and it costs $15.00 per Pill). Shane, I talked to my son last night and it reminded me of you. I wish we lived closer to you. He needs a good , single lady (without kids) that can keep a job. LOL, I think you'd be perfect. (His current GF is turning out to be a loser and I'm on the lookout for a new GF for him, LOL). So look me up if you ever come to Oklahoma, LOL. Jessica, I wish I knew which lender would give a flat fixed rate of 4.25%, the best quote I got was 4.50%. Our credit scores were both great Now. Maybe I should do some more checking! I did learn last night that my son leaves Baghdad, Iraq on March 9th. He then goes to Kuwait for 1 week. Then flies to a base in Mississippi for 1 week, then gets back to Harrison , Arkansas where he'll be for approximately 5 days to check in all his equipment. This should put him back home around April 1st. Basically the whole family will be there upon his return and we'll have a huge family get-together in his honor. It has warmed all the way up to 34 degrees here. DH went to play golf! |
