    Carol,

It may have something to do with your browser settings. What browser are you using?

Well, yesterday I got weighed at the gym for the first time since I came down with bronchitis. The lady was so astonished she had to weigh me twice. In two weeks I have lost 19 pounds.

She also accidentally showed me my weight. (For those who don't know, I let the gym people weigh me but they aren't supposed to tell me the weight.) I'm now at 210 so that makes about 75 pounds total lost in 6 months.

It will be nice to get under 200. I haven't been there for a really long time.
  • Fidder, Are you just not eating? How did you lose 19lb in 2 weeks? I had a bad virus a couple of weeks ago but to my surprise it went away in week for which I was very thankful. Usually, with prednisone , stuff just hangs on. Last year I was really sick with something like that for a month and finally went to the dr. He gave me an antibiotic and said if I didn't get better in 2 weeks he would send me back to Mayo. I got better. ha! Obi, I gave my WATP DVds to a girl on another site. I feel the same way. I also got plantar facitis from doing it in bare feet. After a few months my foot finally healed. Fiddler, the yellow highlighting started when I searched the words intuitive eating. I don't know what browser means. The bronchities diet....ha, ha. Actually, Fiddler, the only time I have lost a lot of weight is when I was sick.
  • Congratulations, Fiddler on your weight loss! Bronchitis has got to be one of the more unpleasant ways to do that, but you must be intuitively eating, since it sounds like you weren't eating much when you were sick. I really believe that our bodies naturally shun food when we are sick, as animals will. Carol, yes, I would like to get rid of those highlighted words also.

Now this doesn't have anything to do with the IE subject but can I vent?? I have been reading quite a bit about dieting and various subsets thereof lately. I have a question: why are adults using more and more baby talk words about food? It started out innocently enough..... but seriously where will it end?? No, I don't want a yummy veggie sammie or ommie (yes, I actually saw "ommie") that is yum yum for the tum tum. Sheesh!
    Ok, I go bye-bye now.
  • Jo, I haven't run across that one yet. ha! Fiddler, my browser is Microsoft Internet Explorer, I think. But it's always been the same and the highlighting isn't always there.
  • Ok, I think I have found one way to not get the highlights. This is a test. I searched for posts by myself, rather than Intuitive Eating. If those two words, Intuitive Eating, do not highlight in this post, then that is one way that will work. But, as another option, does anyone know how you subscribe to a particular forum so you don't have to search for it each time?

    jo
  • But how do you get rid of the highlighting? I just put a short cut on the page we are on so don't search for IE anymore.

Part of the time I had the bronchitis I was too weak to get out of bed much, so no, I wasn't eating much. And I had a fever for several days and was coughing a lot (still am), so lots of calorie expenditure there. Plus it coincided with the TOM that I tend to lose the most weight anyway. Then when I finally did start eating, the only thing that sounded good was spicy stuff, so mostly what I was eating was veggies and meat loaded up with garlic and LOTS of chile peppers. Chiles help boost metabolism, so more calorie expenditure there.
  • congratulations!
I have been lurking on this board all week and would like to congratulate you Fiddler! I hope you are feeling better soon, so you can celebrate your loss (in a non-food way, of course...)

I lost weight 10+ years ago through IE, at the time it was called E.A.T. (eating awareness training) and worked like a charm for me - for years! Turning 40, getting married and quitting smoking (almost 1 year) have put me up about 40 lbs.

While looking for what diet to try, I somehow happened on the IE concept and decided to give it a try. I can't believe how I have not been hungry the last two days as I have put the old methods to work. Hubby just has to understand that I will no longer be eating when I am not hungry. PERIOD.

I did go to the Overfed Head site and register for the "Dump your Diet" program and sent him an old diet book, so I can access his program free for 60 days.

Anyway- just wanted to say hi and let you all know I am along for this ride with you!

    Teresa
  • Great to have you here, Teresa!
  • Hi Teresa! Welcome; I am pretty new here too. I'm kind of doing a hybrid of the intuitive thing plus whole foods/vegetarian - actually those foods are intuitive for me.

Carol, what I meant was that instead of searching for Intuitive Eating I searched for my own posts and that got me to the right place. I think whatever words you use to search get highlighted. When you made your shortcut do those words still come up highlighted?
  • Has your Grocery Shopping Changed.
So last night I did my big shopping (you know the one where the cart of overloaded and your receipt be could used as a notepad)

Anyway, whenever possible I bough things without preservatives. There is a nice organic section at the stop and shop near me and I got some organic lean cruisine type meals for lunch at work. I also got regular lean cuisine which had a no preservatives label and the ingredients seem to have none of those ingredients I couldn't pronounce.

I am going to attempt to cook 2 good meals while he is here and the recipe I am using calls for things like kosher salt and generally a healthy meal.

So in the past I kinda just check prices and if I am low carbing, I check for that, but other than that I just bought whatever.

The other thing....you ever notice that crappy food tends to be cheaper?
  • Good for you, Obi!

I would agree that crappy foods are cheaper if you are buying ready-made entrees and stuff like that, but if you actually cook stuff from scratch I think it is cheaper than even the crappy foods.

When I stopped eating that kind of stuff I stopped having food cravings, and that alone made it worth it for me.
  • Yes, the words seem to be always highlighted, even when I restart the computer. I'll figure it out one of these days. This morning I ate about half my normal breakfast and was full......no idea why.
  • Yay, Obi!
The crappy stuff is almost always cheaper. To me quality is more important than quantity. I'll gladly pay more and get less but better food.
  • Ok I think this should work for getting rid of the highlighted words. Go to your User CP and under Subscribed Threads click on Edit Folders. Then you enter Intuitive Eating #3 and save it. Then you are subscribed to the thread. Then when you log on you can get to it from Quick Links/Subscribed Threads.
