Liza- Kudos on going veg. I have wanted to do it for a while now for spiritual reasons, but it is so hard to feed a growing family and cook meat for them. I have finally decided that I will just have to wait until they are older.
Nicole- I think that listening to how your daughter felt must have brought you to tears. We always want our kids to be happy. I know that you will be there to help her. I think by helping her with food choices and having healthy snacks available to her, she will do well. I was always the skinny kid growing up and my sister always had weight problems. She always asks my Mom why she didn't help her more. It's funny though because now my sister is skinny and I struggle with my weight. Nicole I know you are an awesome Mom. Just continue to encourage your daughter!
Last night I went for a long walk. It was so nice...especially after the big rain storm. The sun came out along with a beautiful rainbow. We live in a beautiful Country.
Tomorrow I am taking a road trip with my son. We are flying to another city to pick up his first vehicle and we are driving home. Part of me is excited and part of me is so nervous. He is 16 and bought it first vehicle. I am so proud of him!
Katie, I hear ya. That's why I didn't go back to the veggie lifestyle for so many years. My daughter LOVED meat. I still have to buy it for the dog since I cook for him. I try to make sure it is from a range free farm. I cried so much when I saw the videos of the cows at the slaughterhouse last year that were being dragged and prodded. I never wanted to be responsible for the torture of another soul like that again.
Thank you for all of the great replies too! This transition is pretty easy for me. I already eat more veggies than salads and have been getting the bulk of my protein from other sources. I gave up processed foods a long time ago. My concern is making sure my daughter does it right. She's not big on salads like I am. I told her to make sure she grabs a handful of peanuts a few times a day to make sure she's getting her protein. There is a girl who works with me that is vegetarian and has a terrible diet. She never has fresh veggies or fruit except when I bring them in and share with her. If she brings lunch, it's a cup of noodles. She's always mopey, moody and sad until someone gives her something healthy to eat and then she perks up a little. I told Mini Me I would probably wring her little neck if she acts like that and doesn't take care of herself She's been taking the LAWL supplements with me and I'm guiding her in food choices so I don't think there's too much to worry about.
Ok, time to get off of the computer and onto the Wii. I've got some yoga and boxing to do before I go to work. I've been great about it so far this week and last night took the dog for a jaunt up not just one, but three large hills. yay!
Just saying hey! I am about to go do my 30 mins on the treadmill. I have no idea how much or how long I am supposed to be on there. On MOnday I did 30 mins, which was 1.65 miles. I was out of breath and in a sweat by the end. I am sticking wih that for now.
Any Real Housewives fans?? I LOVED the NJ ones.. for obvious reasons! I am about to watch Dance your a$$ off' on Oxygen while I work out.
Nicole - mypyramid.gov has some good guidelines for kids and portion sizes, but sometimes their links don't work, you have to be persistent about trying to get in there... I have a niece that is 10 and overweight, not severely, but enough to make her feel bad. I feel really bad for her because her mom acknowledges that they don't follow the proper diet, but won't do anything about it to help her out. She's always telling me how "skinny" I look and that she's going to go on a diet... I feel bad because I don't know how to respond to her...
Amy - I watched the NJ housewives, but missed the finale last night! I'm going to watch it tonight, I have it recorded.
I FINALLY tried a spin class and LOVED it! It felt so good to work up a good sweat, I was completely drenched by the end!
Well I just got back from the hospital and the good news is that my ankle is not broken, however it's a pretty bad sprain that could take up to a month to heal! UGH! So I'm gonna try to be really good, rest it as much as I can, ice it and follow doctor's orders so hopefully I can at least get back onto the elliptical soon...that seems like a good place to start being fairly low impact
Oh, Kristin, that sucks! Hope you get feeling better soon. If you are into herbs, try getting some Arnica Montana cream to rub on it. It will help to heal faster!
hello all. just finally getting on here. i've been running errands all morning. my sister is off work this whole week, so she helped me out by watching baby X for me, so i didn't have to deal with her being cranky while i was getting things done outside of the house! so that was good.
oh and the best thing ever...i slept for 11hrs last night! i went to bed around 7pm last night and woke up at 6am! DH took care of baby X the whole time. it was something i really needed. my mind/body was about to go completely crazy. so i feel much much better today than i have in awhile.
there were quite a few storms in SD and NE yesterday. one of the tornadoes in NE was very very close to my parents and brothers that live there, but thankfully, they weren't affected by the storms or tornadoes. there was alot of damage in other areas though. and the part of SD that we live in could have some bad storms hit tonight, hopefully not though! we'll see.
anyways..that's about it for me. baby X is watching a baby einstein dvd and getting restless, so i gotta go.
Thanks Katie, I would be interested but I live in a very small town and it is very hard to find any sort of product like that...I doubt the drugstore would have it...
Jillian- adorable as always!! THe facial expressions are priceless! She's a character!!
Kristin- sorry to hear about your ankle! Rest up so it doesn't get worse!!
I just got back from spending the day with DH. We had to go to Richmond for his interview, thentook our time coming back stopping in Charlottesville for lunch and shopping! Anytime I am near a TJMaxx, I HAVEto stop! My favorite store!!
Well, today was going to be an off day exercising day for me (no treadmill) but a friend called up to play tennis. I will NEVER say no to tennis!!! I will do some laps to start first too, to get more of a workout in!
It's funny, I was SOOO good and OP yesterday. TOday on the trip we had to pick somewhere to eat and it was KILLING me! I didn't want it to set me back. I am nowhere near my water for the day as I have been in the car and dont want to stop... oh well! I was better than I thought. We ended up at Chili's. I brought over half of my dinner home!
Well, off to eat something... and get ready for tennis!!!
Jillian.........your baby is sooo cute. You know, I had three of out five that were high maintainance infants. It gets really exhausting. Luckily, right around the time they started moving around, they lightened up.....around 4 months if I remember right. Hang in there girl.......and so happy for you that you got such a nice rest
XOXO
Nicole, My DD was also a chunky 11 year old. If yours is interested in dance or cheer or something active, sign her up. My DD started doing cheer and all that exercise slimmed her down for several years (until she needed foot surgery and had to quit). I recall about that age my mom signed my sister and I up for scottish dancing and all that jumping drove her crazy but we both slimmed down. I think you are right to focus mostly on eating healthy food. Maybe encourage her to give up junk food and sweets for the summer? Try to have a lot less of that in the house. No one is going to be harmed by a healthier diet.
Kristin, bummer about the ankle. You really have to rest it, but the good news is that the sprain is likely to heal faster than a stress fracture which I was worried you had. The elliptical does seem like a good first thing to try when you are free of pain again.
Julie, I love spin class! I do however own a gel seat to put on the bike that I bought on Amazon for 14$ and I recommend that a lot. I don't care that almost no one else in the class uses one....
Amy, Have a good tennis game. Be sure to drink lots of water while you are playing tennis, as it is probably pretty warm there in Virginia.
Jillian, what a sweet baby you have. Great that you got some sleep, as I imagine everything seems better today. They say lack of sleep can make us gain or retain weight also as it ups your stress hormones, so you just may be sleeping yourself thinner. Between that and getting back to exercise I imagine you'll be feeling really good.
Its been crazy busy at work lately. I was out of work and asked for more and must have asked too many people, since they all found something for me to do... Oh well, I'd rather be over busy than have nothing to do. I just can't stand that, and I have billable hours goals, so now I should be able to make them, as long as I can keep working to get the stuff done.
Gonna do Thursday weigh ins for a bit I think...might keep me more honest on weekends...knowing weigh in is closer....so since starting WW point counting on Friday...down 1.4 lbs...should be more I think but I am trying to remember I had a small loss the first time I did WW in the first week..then 5 lbs the next so we will see what happens...at least it is a loss! Been standing still for awhile...funny thing is this time that whole 1.4 was lost on the weekend and I just haven't budged since Monday even though I ate the flex points on the weekend...go figure...
