Thumbs up Saturday - on the road

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Did gym at the upscale health club across the street from my hotel; CREDIT moi. Since my Ballys gym is bare bones, it was a pleasure to be greeted by a bright young thing handing me a towel. And the paneled lockers in the "members" carpeted locker room looked spiffy as did the sign that said that if they found a lock on a locker that wasn't by an annual member it would be cut off and the contents donated to charity. All the dumbbells were in their proper places in the racks and the bar bell weights were all ordered onto pegs with numbers on them. Felt I was working out with stock brokers and lawyers.

Breakfast was OP by ignoring the make-your-own-waffles, eggs and sausages, and mountains of sweet rolls. I had a bowl of cereal with banana and a low-fat yogurt. CREDIT moi, since I'm capable of losing it in front of that much FREE food.

Lunch was leisurely at a country club and I was stellar on plan; ignored the rolls and butter, chose crab cakes as my entree, and had one bite of the (automatically served) cheese cake dessert and left the remainder. CREDIT moi for eating on plan, especially for leaving food. I had even stored an apple in my car for a morning snack on the drive to the cemetery so I didn't arrive at lunch starved. Separate CREDIT moi for that.

Then I blew it during the long evening where food was available for hours and hours. I did well at first, but as the evening wore on I ate too many shrimp which seemed to give me permission to then fell into the desserts. Oh Well. I did manage to turn down the offer to take a whole sour cream sponge cake home with me. I'll take a CREDIT moi for coming to my senses for that at least.

I face the hotel breakfast buffet again this morning but am not worried since I conquered it yesterday. I have a sandwich made for the five hour drive home as well as a giant bag of baby carrots, an apple, and a granola bar. I'll do fine. Thanks for listening, guys; it helps me to report here.

Robin (RobinW) - Kudos for being recovered back to "OK" with plans to get back to the gym even.

Sending virtual "calgone" to your DH even thought it escapes me why water softener is going to help with the blue screen of death. Whatever, LOL.

Anne (wndranne) - Kudos for yet another amazing bike ride - two hours is one fine workout. Would have to think that your brain would be clear of all muddled thoughts after that sort of cleansing.

Thanks for the link; that was a good morning chuckle. LOL that "A S S" gets censored by the automatic purity software, which means the Bible would get censored which should rankle some first amendment folks as well as some religious folks. On another board posters routinely used carp to bypass the censored word; it came to have the same feeling as the original. But I do need to be grateful because the censor forced me to learn to spell shiitake mushrooms because the correct spelling doesn't come out ****take, LOL.

ChinaMaine - Sending my warmest supportive thoughts for dealing with your MIL's cancer. Yay for her for beating the doctor's predictions and for doing it with "excellent quality of life." Would seem like she might be the source of your DH's resilience in the face of difficulties.

Congrats on the new low. Kudos for getting there with the fatigue level elevated. I love Tabbouleh but have never made it; how did yours come out?

Margaret (Nuxmaga) - Kudos for enjoying your Anniversary celebration while remaining attentive to what you were eating.

And thanks for making me look up "dreck" on wiki even though the meaning was clear from the sound. But it wasn't a lot of work since I had it open to look up calgon anyway, LOL.

WI: Still steady
Pain: 1/3/7

Credits: packing lunch, counting calories, having less beer and ice cream than I thought I wanted at movie night.

Endoscopy showed esophagitis, which doesn't say much to me... she's inflamed, but why?

Hospital was crazy yesterday. I think they're planning to release her Monday, so there were calls about her take-home prescriptions and equipment, transplant and diabetes care classes (some of her medications cause high blood sugar, so she'll be getting insulin injections for a while until they taper those off).

She's going to need 24-hour live-in assistance, but between her sister, her daughter, and her two best friends, I think we have her covered. We're going to work out a calendar so that everybody can feel a bit of freedom and get days of rest, while Mom is well cared for. Hospital staff was impressed.

Robin: I think that one of the greatest practical benefits to being partnered is that one can safely wig out while the other stays calm and takes responsibility. It never fails that when I'm having a panic attack, B is in control and vice versa. Good that your DH has you, and you him.

Margaret: I'm glad you had a wonderful time on your anniversary dinner, and that you were in such great control of your eating too!

Anne: Glad you're checking in even on busy days, personals or no. Thanks for the link (and the tip to make it work).

ChinaMaine: for all the OPness and enjoying the sunrise.

Bill: for ignoring veritable MOUNTAINS of free food!

I would like to have all the restaurants put nutrition info on their menus too. It would raise awareness of the general populous, most of which seems to be in denial. Nonetheless, my biggest gripe with restaurant chains is when they don't publish the info anywhere, even on the web. I stopped eating at Olive Garden, because even when I was actively pursuing nutrition info, they had no means of getting it.

You know, it's mind boggling that we have so much food floating around here, while people are still starving in places!

Talking Why can't every day be Saturday??

Today was a really lovely day. DH and I got out of China and went touristing. We started at the Desert of Maine. Yes there’s a 90+ acre expanse of glacial silt that’s advertised as a desert. It’s the result of our glacial past, poor farming practices, and inventive marketing techniques. All in all, an odd/interesting way to spend an hour or so. Beforehand we ate the picnic lunch we packed, sandwiches, tabbouleh, sugar snap peas and oranges. Tasty, fun and relaxing.
Then we drove down towards Portland to walk around Mackworth Island. It’s a small island in Casco Bay with a nice perimeter trail. It was also fun and relaxing, although not tasty. As we walked my DH mentioned that there was a horrifying abuse story about the School for the Deaf located on the Island (now closed). I looked it up on google when we got home, and he was right. It’s so hard to believe that such a quiet, beautiful place could have been so misused.
WI-up 0.25 lbs. Forgot to read my cards, but did make a plan. Food – op, Exercise – op. Fatigue 2.3 (1=Felt Great, 5=Extreme Fatigue).
Bill Credit for skipping so much of the freely available food! Excellent driving food prepared – to me driving is a situation when eating is a minefield… I'm bored, so I want to graze constantly. Every McD's sign calls out to me ("come on, a *small* fry won't hurt you; not just this once" grrr)

The Tabbouleh is good. I have an online subscription to Cooking Light and got the recipe there. It was rated 5 stars by 30+ readers so I was expecting a stellar recipe. To me it lacks a certain something, so every time I make it I tweak the ingredients a bit to make it better. It’s getting pretty good, and I think I’m on the verge of having a recipe I’m really happy with. I will say that I make it with Quinoa, rather than Bulgar. Quinoa is gluten-free (unlike bulgar) and I like it’s lightness a bit better anyway. Even better, it is the grain with the highest proportion of protein. If you ever make Tabbouleh, consider giving Quinoa a try at the same time.

Tera Oh man – your pain level is so high. Credit for being op (or less than planned!) when you might have felt entitled to have more. I’m glad Mom is going home Monday and kudos to you and your entire family for being so prepared. It sounds like to come from a long line of organized and compassionate people. Credit for good genes!

....and being partnered with the right person. This little incident showed me more than I can ever express about my husband. He's perfect for me

Bill~ you dont remember the calgon commercials? (or are you pulling my leg?) Let me offer some Big Honkin' Kudos for eating sanely in the presence of all that free delicious sounding food! Talk about food porn!

ChinaMaine~ sounds like you had a lovely day! My cousin went to a school for the deaf about 10 hours away from our home town. She has since moved back there...and when I got older I always wondered if she was "ok" there. Even as a kid. Its been nice to see her and her friends on facebook talking very fondly about their school. Breaks your heart to hear about how other humans can treat children

~~

Everyone is over on the other page....so Im just going to offer a

I havent updated my blog since the middle of May, and I was thinking this weekend might be a good time to do that. That's the plan for that. I'll also be getting some cooking done, even if its just getting alot of chicken cooked

Everything still isnt great (plan wise) But Im getting there. I always find it takes me a few days to kind of ween myself off all the stuff I wasnt suppose to be doing.

I stopped in today without hubby to see my new step-grandbaby. I wanted to bring the many new rufflie outfits I picked up. But I didnt want to intrude, and I didnt want to overstay my welcome. I got a very nice "Your more than welcome anytime Robin, so please sit" This from the stepson who had the hardest time when I came into the picture. It was wonderful!! Took everything in me to NOT cry!

I'll check in tomorrow....have a wonderful evening everyone!

Thumbs up have a good trip billblueeyes!

Hi Coaches

i'm still rushing around from here to there and not posting much but my food is calming down and my activity level is going up and today I saw a lady at least my size if not larger on a bike with thin wheels participating in some cycling race. I know this cause she was wearing a number. I was sitting on the bus going to the school when I saw her. She was the only larger person I saw but I SAW HER and I wish I knew who she was cause I'd thank her. If she can do that I can do that.
hello?

I was also at the local used stuff store this evening and picked up some low carb recipes books, a book all about bean recipes and the Thin For Life book recommended here several time and another book about "not dieting". Can't remember the title. I grabbed it cause they had a buy 4 get one free deal. I figure I can't lose. These things all help to get me motivated.

And billblueeyes I wanted to make sure I wished you a grand holiday adventure with fantastic sightings of rare and unusual species!!
OH! Speaking of which, bring your camera for sure. Get this: today when I went to school I didn't bring my camera. This isn't the norm. And what did I do? I set type, wooden type, an archaic art form I actually have 4 years of work experience in. Me and Shirley from my grad class were making a sign for our display windows. okay archaic art form done. I walk out to cross the street to get to the first book arts show here in town celebrating said same archaic art form (a coincidence only) including letterpress artists and book binders and papermakers and calligraphers, all of which I do and have done, and while waiting to cross the street I see a cop on a bike and then about 60 cyclists, most totally nude except for bike helmets, chanting "More A S S less Gas". They were protesting petroleum. I think because I draw naked people they didn't even phase me. And, again, I noticed most were fit and not fat. I could not believe I had no camera! The looks on the spectators were priceless. And so once they passed, I caught the bus and when I got off I saw a bride in a GIANT poofy dress, (we're talking 80's Dynasty style here), on the steps of a building downtown and watching the poofy bride was a man in a blue palm-treed Hawaiian shirt with a giant white cockatoo on the back of his neck and watching the cockatoo were two girls, one taking the other's picture surreptitiously to ensure they got the cockatoo and owner in it. I was DYING to have had my camera to catch the bride, the bird, the man and the tourists!

So, BBE, take your camera and keep it handy.
Oh, and have fun. Lots of it.

to everyone

Coaches/Buddies I think I need to work on getting some more fruit and veggies in, but other than that I was on plan. Today was a rest day. Lots of kid chasing. I kinda maxed out on that for a while this afternoon and had to give myself a time out. A little sleep helped and I got in a quick nap.

Tomorrow is a 2 hr bike ride. I'm guessing I'll be tired again.

ChinaMaine Love your Friday lake report!

Glad you had a fun Saturday too.

Bill I'm impressed by how well you did yesterday, and that you gave yourself credit for good, even in the face of not perfect. That's huge!

Have a very happy vacation! We'll miss you around here. I do have the July thread start on my Google calendar, ready to ping me, so we should be all set when you get back!

Tera Sounds like you had a reasonably good day in this tough time.

I hear you on the abundance of food. Last I checked the US produces 3900 calories per person per day. No wonder we're all fat.

Robin Sounds like your DH is a keeper, eh? Big smiles on the interaction with your stepson. And looking forward to your new blog post showing up on my blog roll.

onebyone Looking forward to seeing you out there with a number on your bicycle. And perhaps more duds than the riding protest, LOL! What a day to forget your camera.

Hello, All. Todays weight: steady. That 229 is making me wait. I hope for good things in the morning.

Things have been going well plan wise. I've been working everyday, so I'm a bit tired. I've been 100% on plan through it all. I'm happy about that. I do feel like I'm getting some control over food. I hate to say that out loud. It is true, however.

Credit me for being on-plan, not eating free food, ONLY eating what is on my daily plan.

Anne - You've really been riding. That's great. Way to stay on-plan. I hope to get my new bike next Saturday. I can't wait!

Onebyone - Don't let your weight stand in your way of bike riding if that's what you want to do. I used to ride 30 miles a day at 276 lbs. The bike survived and so did I. As soon as I get my bike, I will be working back up to that and more at 230 lbs. Life's too short to put off what you enjoy.

Robin - I'm glad you're doing better. It sounds like you had quite the frightening experience. It sounds like you've been able to find a way to use it for good. Credit.

ChinaMaine - Sounds like you had a nice day. There's nothing better than a eating outside on a pretty day. It is a shame how one human can be so inhuman to another.

Tera - I hope your mother is doing well. She's a lucky woman to have so many friends and family around her that care so much about her. I'm glad you've all worked it out so everyone can have a break now and them. I help take care of my father, he has serious memory loss, and sometimes you just need to get away and relax. All best.

Bill - It sounds to me like you did pretty well during a stressful weekend. Give yourself credit for that. I hope you have a great vacation.

Opening night went well. At least the show got a good review. Hopefully, that will lead to more ticket sales.

All best,

Beth

Thumbs up Sunday - Let the Vacation Begin

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Did splendid at the hotel breakfast bar; CREDIT moi. Had their granola. They were out of bananas so I drove to the nearby mini-market and got some, LOL. And then did a marvelous thing. I craved their make-it-yourself waffle that my kids were eating, so I made myself one, ate one quarter of it because that's what I need to enjoy it, and abandoned the rest. Amazing, tossing out food is soooooooo rare for me. Special CREDIT moi.

Thanks one and all for your kind well wishes for my vacation. Already I can feel the thought that since it's a special occasion food planning isn't required. It certainly is required - with ample room for extras of unusual foods - but planning is required. Thinking of you guys here with the efforts you make to stay on course will help me do the same.

maryblu - Waving back; LOL at WWBD?

onebyone - Yep, people can ride bikes without being self conscious about their size.

Love your sightings on your day without your camera. Charged my camera's battery to max last night and have it ready to pack.

Robin (RobinW) - Yay for appreciating your DH; Yay for your DH being there for you.

And Kudos to your stepson for moving forward in life; a good sign for a new papa.

umm ... no, I've never heard a Calgon commercial. Could be because I'm a rather light TV person, but maybe they were Canadian only?

Anne (wndranne) - Yay for an adult time out from the kids; like that idea.

Tera (twilit tera) - Kudos for eating less than "I thought I wanted." Love that recognition of thought I wanted.

Sounds like your organizational skills are in high gear for your mother's recovery plan. Good news that you are already considering care giver burn out while you can take steps to prevent it.

ChinaMaine - Kudos for OP with food and exercise right through the fatigue.

And Kudos for the upbeat touristing with DH. You made me google the desert of Maine which showed a camel and I had a hearty laugh; I was expecting a desert moose maybe?

Delighted by your phrase "out of China and went touristing." If your touring took you to the country China, you'd never mention it publicly on the Internet to avoid tweaking that part of a government that uses webbots to scoop up everything and keep tabs. You'd just drop hints assuming that webbots aren't subtle.

Will try your Quinoa in Tabbouleh - sounds yummy.

Beth (Greenville Beth) - Kudos for 100% on plan through the busy times. Yay for positive reviews from your opening night - hope that sells a bunch of tickets.

Hi All -- I posted on this thread some time ago inquiring about the Beck books. I have finally purchased the first one, but am going out of town for a few weeks so am not "officially" joining this thread until I get back.

But .... I just want to say to Bill BlueEyes -- I LOVE, absolutely love the cards and tips you quote from the book in your posts. I read these tips whenever you post and I can see they do help. So THANK YOU. CJ

Pain: 1/3/4

Stayed home yesterday, but it was far from uneventful. We signed the lease and got the keys to our new apartment! This is going to be a very interesting week, between Mom's release from the hospital and our move!

There's a possibility she'll be sent home today, and if not today, tomorrow!

Lots of rest and rubbing, and less than a full schedule of PT, and my pain levels seem to be back down. Going to the hospital today.

ChinaMaine: I'm happy for your wonderful trip! for OP food and exercise!

Robin: What a wonderful moment, knowing you're accepted as family by your stepson. I can relate, being on the other side of that dynamic... it took years for me to accept my stepdad, but eventually, he really did become family to me, in my heart as well as on paper.

onebyone: for finding books and motivation from people you see.

Every summer solstice, Seattle, Washington has an arts parade, which for over ten years now has included a large number of unauthorized nude cyclists in body paint.

Anne: Kid chasing is great exercise!

Beth: Always express your accompllishments out loud. Frequently. Reinforce to your subconscious that this really is happening. You really are getting control!

Thank you for the kind thoughts for my mom. She is a remarkable woman. The amount of love and committment she has from us is a reflection of the sort of person she is.

Bill: Well, if you see this, it will be after you've returned from your vacation. Hope it's been lovely and you had a nice Independence Day.

Wink Sunday Report

Today was kind of a low activity day. It rained outside all day long, and I didn’t talk myself into my usual 1 mile walk. Oh well… I did do the first 30 mins of my workout though, so credit! I craved something special for breakfast, so I made French toast with carmelized bananas and blueberries (I think carmelized in the right word – kind of like bananas foster without the booze). Since I had a day inside, I wanted to do something adventurous for dinner as well… We had grilled sausage, onions and peppers for dinner last night. I’ve been wanting to make a rice-crust quiche ever since I had it at the café in Niagara-on-the-Lake. So, I made a quiche with sausage, onions, peppers, Italian and Feta cheeses, and a brown rice crust. It was quite good (if I do say so myself!)
Although I exercised less than normal, I was much hungrier than normal in the afternoon. I had a slice of toast with peanut butter, instead of saying ‘hunger is not an emergency’. Oh well… After that I took a nap for about an hour.
WI-down 0.75 lbs. (new low) Forgot to read my cards again, but did made a plan. Fatigue 2.7 (1=Felt Great, 5=Extreme Fatigue).
I'm too tired for personals tonight -- I'm off to bed. I'll catch up with all of you tomorrow!
