  • Hello EVERYONE!

Quote: Hello - I'm not new to 3fc or to IE, but haven't posted in AGES. .......... At my last checkup, I was down 46 pounds since last thanksgiving. Painlessly. .......... I eat whatever I'm hungry for - the only restrictions I place on myself are because of a few food allergies. for the most part, I don't usually think about how much fat or calories something has, but how it tastes and if I really love it. If I don't really love it, I don't eat it.
Welcome BACK to 3F Jerie (and to our group)! What a great success story too! Congrats to you! I think I'm finally getting settled into the eating philosophy you described above. I had a hard time getting past the good food/bad food attitude but that has now faded away. I've had a light bulb moment today, too. More on that in a minute ...

Quote: Hey I just turned 60 April 7th.
Carol, Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you!

I started my second week of working out with Richard Simmons today and interestingly, something dawned on me ... Because I'm not relying on what I eat or don't eat or even how much I eat to make a difference in my weight, but rather I am now focusing on getting some much needed exercise to tackle the fat, when (and if) I reach my goal range I will not have to do a thing with my eating. IE is FINALLY becoming natural to me! I am finding that I am getting more in tune with my body and what it needs. For instance, if I haven't had veggies in a little while I find myself gravitating towards them, etc. Instead of standing in front of the pantry or fridge and wondering "what can I eat next" I now stand in front of the pantry or fridge and wonder "what am I really hungry for." The other day I looked and looked for something that sounded good to eat (I was hungry, too) and nothing appealed to me, not a PB&J sandwich, not a cookie, not chips, not fruit, not veggies, not candy, not crackers ... but after a while of thinking about what would taste really good right now I finally decided on a BLT sandwich. Didn't settle for whatever was handy and could be gulped down quickly. I honored my hunger and exactly what it was I found desirable. Food sure does taste so much better when you eat what you love! And eat it without guilt, might I add! I just love IE, it's what we were meant to do!

Starting an exercise routine has helped me see food in a different light, like I said earlier, I'm not relying on the food to magically mold me into the shape I want to be. I'm treating food as what it is meant to do ... NOURISH MY BODY in an enjoyable, guilt-free way. Do I dare say ... food no longer has a hold on me!

    Have a great day y'all!
  • I know what you mean, Blue, by not knowing for sure what you are hungry for. But I thought your post was very inspiring. And isn't that something about Jerie? She is quite the inspiration to us. I found that since I've had this bad cold my taste isn't working quite right. I think it is getting better and sure hope so.
  • oops Don't know how this happened. Sorry. computer is doing crazy things.
  • Hi Everybody,

Blue - You are doing great with the exercise. And it is quite an accomplishment that IE is working for you so wonderfully.

carolr - Hope the cold is gettting better. I still experience those times when I have no idea what I want to eat. I wonder if that means I don't need anything.

Jeri - Boy I am getting some of those "character lines" as well. Had the saggy stuff for far too long.

I believe the cognitive therapy skills are going to be very helpful with my eating plan. Today is Day 2 and I have to say that I felt so energized.

    Y'all have a good evening.
  • It's a beautiful day here in WI after several days of rain. This is my favorite weather.....about 65 degrees......since we don't have central air. Every year we talk about it but never do it. ha! I went to McDonalds and got my now usual happy meal. I used to get a big and tasty meal but can't eat that much anymore. Or maybe it is just that I have learned that stuffed isn't a good feeling.
  • Just a quick hi. I've been reading Susan Albers new workbook, Eat, Drink and Be Mindful. It occurs to me after looking at the Gurze website that I probably do have an eating disorder. Yech. Anyway, I'm glad this board is here. I read a few posts and I'm happy to see a few of us are in the same age group. I turned 55 on Wednesday, 4/22. Maybe at this point I realize I'll never be young, hot, or slim again--so I need to work on accepting myself! -Lily
  • Hi Lily. I think you can still lose weight. I am 60 and in the last 5 yr. I have lost 40lb. Just be careful you only eat when you are hungry and stop when satisfied. I was at Walmart yesterday and when I was checking out I noticed my old favorite, Woman's World with it's latest diet. It made me smile. After all these years I don't need them anymore.

What excellent progress, Carol! Keep up the good work!

And happy birthday to you too , Lily!

After a solid week of aerobic workouts, I'm finding that I still need to cut back on my snacks. I was introduced to these awesome potato chips that Target has - maple-BBQ kettle chips - and I've been eating them like there's no tomorrow. (And the cinnamon-sugar tortilla chips they make.) Needless to say despite all the hard work I've done lately the scale was up this morning! UGH! Time to really pay attention to my portions. True, I haven't been waiting for true hunger when snacking either, so it's even easier to just keep munching away all the while packing on the calories (and pounds). *sigh* Somebody wire my mouth shut! LOL!

    Well, Have a great one!
  • I still have a problem with waking in the night hungry. I don't eat then and I can't figure out why this happens. Sometimes it helps to have just a little something right before bed. Any suggestions?
  • Hi everybody,

A quick one to check in and say I'm still here working my plan trying to incorporate what I'm learning from the Beck book and with IE. I am getting back into exercise again. Over did it yesterday so doing minimum today and Sat and then start off Monday with 30 min a day 6 days a week.

Lily - Welcome. I am learning to mindful eat as well. And Happy Birthday.

carolr and Blue and everyone else -

Y'all have a great week end.
  • Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to introduce myself and say Hi to all the other intuitive eaters out there. My name is Sara, I'm a 20 year old University student and I've been calorie counting for almost a year now on and off and before that I had done many other fad diets. I lost the majority of my weight before I started analyzing everything so much and before I started defining foods as good and bad...not as "yummy" and "ick" as they had been previously defined.

Even though I am losing on calorie counting thinking about food has become to much of my life, and the emotional "failure" feeling of eating above or below a calorie limit is a horrible feeling that really does not modivate me to continue. I was watching youtube videos the other day and there was this girl who was talking about the Paul McKenna plan and way of thinking and how her eating habits have changed and what not and so I went and picked up the book along with some food that normally I would run away from but that I love (bread. yogurt that isn't non-fat. the list goes on.)

I'm doing my weigh in tomorrow morning and then here's to eating what I want when I'm actually hungry (which is another thing about calorie counting that I can't handle, I'm constantly having to eat when I don't want to get the calories in as to not go below anything). Does anyone here have any tips that aren't in the book to help the first few weeks of adjustment go easier?
  • Be patient. It takes time for you body to adjust to a nondieting lifestyle
  • Hello Non dieters!

Last week, I had finally found my IE book and reading it and was similar to Overcoming Overeating by Jane H. I love to eat ,especially sweets. IE and OO book is my lifesaver..kept rereading it in case of fall into the dieting trap.

Since March 09, am down 22 Lbs. I enjoy walking with my cd player and my walks is 30 min daily.Weekends, I rest, depending how my knee hurts.

I put all my diet books in storage(garage) and won't ever buy a diet books again.. I'm in my 40s and being my own boss and fitness guru..My body will tell me on my natural weight will be.

Will post on a weekly basis to give support and sharing. I won't give up on the scale just yet. Am just weigh in on a monthly basis.

Talk with you soon..Have a good week!
  • Great work, Liliann.
  • Nothing much new here. Just checking in to see if anyone is around.
