Thank you, Heather. That was the first non-combative response I've had.

I didn't have much opportunity to get into what type of fasting I'd be doing, but was going to talk it over with others who'd had some sort of successful, reasonable routine going. I guess I'll just work through it on my own. I DO appreciate your kindness though, Heather!

Hey Jer,

I don't think people meant to be combative. Members just become concerned when others seem to be doing something that they feel is unusual or potentially harmful. Most 3FC members have had some direct experience of ways to lose and not to lose weight--so it's just sharing of ideas.

I'm familiar with the information on calorie restriction and intermittent fasting. Formal scientific studies, mostly in rodents, do show a correlation between calorie restriction and longevity. Basically, though, what it comes down to is that if you eat less, you'll live longer. This isn't a big surprise to some of us! The intermittent fasting studies are interesting, but I don't see any formal studies on people yet...

I think this approach is a scary thing for folks to contemplate because it sounds like anorexia--and depending on how long you plan to do it, the results could be similar in terms of developing nutrition imbalance. You haven't gotten around to telling more about your plan--so I'll just say, be sure you get enough vitamins and other nutrients. You don't want to lose muscle mass or other non-fat tissue. In fact, maybe it would be a good idea to talk with your doctor about it, if you haven't already, just to get a real medical opinion. None of us here are qualified to give medical advice, of course.

Cheers!
Jay
