YOAD August Exercise Challenge!

Any chance YOAD people would want to revive the exercise challenge thread? I see it's been idle awhile.

Iwanawurkit 07-29-2008 09:14 PM

Sounds like a good idea! Count me in and what do we want to set as a challenge?

karen0117 07-30-2008 01:42 PM

I don't know, I've never done this before. Any ideas would be welcome.

Karen

BfL_Cat 07-30-2008 05:23 PM

How about minutes or miles of some sort of activity? You set a goal for the week, or month, and then report in on your progress?

Also, I was thinking we should start a new thread for this - January to August is a bit of a gap - I'll take care of merging these posts into it.

YOAD August Exercise Challenge!

Here's the new thread!

Iwanawurkit 07-30-2008 10:14 PM

Okay, well....I am going to set my goal for at least 30 mins of walking everyday without fail. That is what the docs are suggesting in the book. Of course I will still do my weight training and some other classes through the week but will not go to bed until I have walked at least 30 mins a day. I believe it is do able. :cheer2: :club: :cheer2:

karen0117 07-30-2008 11:20 PM

Thanks for doing this Cindy, I'm excited!

Karen

karen0117 07-30-2008 11:24 PM

I am going to go with both goals, walking 30 minutes a day, strength training 3 times a week.

BfL_Cat 08-01-2008 01:12 PM

Ok gals, it's August - good luck to us all - get out there and hit that pavement!
Cindy

karen0117 08-02-2008 12:28 PM

August 1: since I didn't get up at 4 in the morning (about the only time to walk during this incredible heat), I did the 2 mile Walk Away the Pounds video, which takes 30 minutes.

Karen

Blue Serenity 08-04-2008 11:14 AM

Well, 3 days are gone but I'll still join in. I would also like to shoot for 30 minutes of walking a day.

How does this work? Do we report weekly or just keep checking in each day? TIA

BfL_Cat 08-04-2008 10:08 PM

Ok, today I did my planned workout - my BFL upper body workout. Boy am I going to be sore tomorrow! I was at the gym for an hour. I think what I'll do is add up what my total minutes at the gym this month should be, and then compare my running total against that.

60 minutes in today!
Cindy

Blue Serenity 08-04-2008 10:25 PM

Checking in ... did 40+ min walk today :carrot:

Iwanawurkit 08-05-2008 07:38 AM

Missed walking yesterday....too hot. Definitely on for tonight though. My oldest DS is in the process of moving out so I should be free for the treadmill tonight because of the heat outside....already seeing the weight move today...down 3 pounds since Saturday morning.

karen0117 08-05-2008 05:59 PM

Here are my last 3 days:

Saturday 2nd: You Workout, Walk Away the Pounds 1 mile video (20 minutes), fifteen extra minutes walking

Sunday 3rd: 30 minutes of walking videos

Monday 4th: Finally got up early enough to do a 30 minute walk outside. Today it will be back ti indoors.

Blue Serenity 08-05-2008 11:56 PM

30 min on the treadmill tonite

Iwanawurkit 08-06-2008 07:30 AM

Did 45 mins of walking today and tonight I will do the YMCA for strength training. Whew.....it's hard to get back into the habit. Why oh why did I stop? Oh, gas prices....that is why and the heat? Sounds like excuses to me....what do you all say?

ledom 08-06-2008 09:07 AM

I got back into my basement gym - I have a bench and barbells - yesterday and today. I haven't done strength training in far too long. It feels so good and I know what my body has been missing. Maybe that will help me get back on track with food. I have been utterly horrible.

My house guests of almost 6 weeks will be leaving this weekend. I think that will help me get back into a more healthy routine. Their remodeling job turned out so cute by the way.

BfL_Cat 08-06-2008 12:13 PM

45 minutes at the gym this morning!

No exercise yesterday - I literally too exhausted from Monday's weight workout! I guess being 5 years older this time, as well as several pounds heavier, means I'll have to give myself more time to adjust to the new routine.

Today was a lower body workout - I went easy on the weight so I can build some strength back in my quads to protect my knees before start really working them.

Yay - Ledom's here!

Blue Serenity 08-06-2008 11:04 PM

did about 40+ min walk outdoors tonite :carrot:

karen0117 08-06-2008 11:20 PM

Yesterday: did YOU workout, 1 mile walking video plus about 15 extra minutes of walking.

This morning it was actually overcast and 77 degrees so I got on the road early and did a nice 30 minute walk. I used the Kathy Smith powerbelt I bought a few years ago to help me maintain form. According to my pedometer I'm walking about 20 percent faster than I did when I began 9 1/2 weeks ago.

Karen

Iwanawurkit 08-07-2008 06:27 AM

Only did 30 mins of walking this morning. Much cooler than yesterday and had to wear my reflective bans so they could see me walk. LOL!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

BfL_Cat 08-07-2008 08:50 AM

Another 45 minutes at the gym this morning - today was cardio day, so it was a brisk walk on the treadmill, with an incline most of the time.

My gym is much less crowded on Tuesdays and Thursdays - I need to figure out how to take advantage of that with my workouts - yesterday it was much too hectic to do my lower body workout effectively. I did it, but I was jumping around to different machines as they were available, instead of getting the one I wanted when I wanted it.
Cindy

Blue Serenity 08-08-2008 12:01 AM

Cindy

karen0117 08-09-2008 08:54 AM

Yesterday: 30 minute walk outside (managed to get going early in the morning, afternoon: YOU workout. For those of you who've done the workout you know the invisible chair: did 1:14, longest time yet.

BfL_Cat 08-09-2008 10:50 AM

Karen - good job on the invisible chair!

I'm pretty proud of myself today - it's Saturday and I got out and did a 45 minute walk, including some hills!

Tomorrow's a day off for me!

BfL_Cat 08-12-2008 12:49 PM

Come on Kim, join us!

I got both my LBWO and cardio in today - didn't get up to do anything yesterday, so had to do double duty today!
Cindy

karen0117 08-13-2008 01:17 AM

Did 30 minutes of walking this morning, had to put off YOU workout because forr the first time since I've been on the program my old knee problem flared up, will have to do Wed Fri Sun to get it in this week.

Blue Serenity 08-13-2008 12:06 PM

Hope your knee gets better soon, Karen.

You can do it iwanawurkit! Hang in there!

I didn't get my walk in yesterday but got some yard work in (raking and weed pulling). Guess that counts a little for exercise (i have a very small yard). Hope to do better today!

BfL_Cat 08-13-2008 12:22 PM

Checking in - did a great upper body workout today - lifted until my arms were noodles! Also got in 15 minutes of walking before leaving the gym.
