Great articles, carol!!
I liked the one about the dog (the link on the last post). That's exactly how i ate on my last pregnancy, and really it was for the baby (who turned out to be 10 lbs 1 oz)-- he was a hungry lil' guy (and still is).
I graze all day, just enough to satisfy my current hunger. It's probably easier for me since I'm a SAHM and can prepare whatever I want when I want it. I've realized, though that the kinds of foods we eat CAN have an influence on what we crave. I've been drinking a green smoothie for breakfast every morning (ex: banana, pineapple, ice and spinach), and find myself craving greens throughout the day instead of chocolate or cookies.
Regarding the article about the dog, I have witnessed this first hand. My dog was put on a 2x-a-day low protein diet by the vet due to a problem she was having with the liver. She is totally obsessive about her food, always eager to gobble up anything and everything she can find. If it gets dropped on the floor, don't reach down to get it, you will most likely get bit (and she has bitten)! The majority of her life she had been allowed to graze. We would fill up her bowl when it was empty and she would eat as much as she wanted and was done, leaving food in the bowl. Until reading this article, I never realized this was feast or famine behavior she's been exhibiting since being on the diet. But it makes sense. It is amazing the amounts of food this dog can eat! (yeah, she gets scraps now, who can resist a beggin' pup?)
Well, I just hit the wrong key and lost my reply. Bummer. It went something like this........I just figured out another way I can know if I overate.....I'm tired and draggy. I felt so good yesterday and ate modest portions. It didn't seem like I ate that much less but the grazing thing is where I get in trouble. The trouble with the tired thing is that it usually hits AFTER you have over done it. And sometimes when there is work to be done and I don't feel like tackling it, food seems more fun. ha!
