Ok, you are probably right, but my avatar stats are old (how very sad that I gained)…and I am 37 now……..so let see……..

(204x4.5)+(67x15.88)-(37x5)-161=1958

20% of 1958=392
30% of 1958=587

And, if I understand correctly (after re-reading Tina’s original post…..again), to lose one half pound per week, we subtract 250 per day……or if you want to lose 1 lb per week, we subtract 500 calories per day. I don’t know where I got 1 ˝ pounds from. I guess I should slow down when I am reading.

So, to lose ˝ lb per week at 30% (which I think I fall into), I would need to take in 1958+578-250=2295

At 20%:
1958+392-250=2100

And to lose 1 lb per week at 30%, I would need to take in
1958+578-500=2036 for 1 ˝ lbs 2036-250=1786

At 20%:
1958+392-500=1850 for 1 ˝ lbs 1850-250=1600

Does that seem better? So, maybe when I am looking at my fitday calculations, I should probably shoot for anywhere between 1600 and 1750 calories?

Kim and Barbara……….my math checkers……is that correct?

well, actually, no... I got 1636 for the first number when I did the math, the rest the math looks OK.

I like your calculations better though

Except for you might not lose any weight that way.

So I get 1963 for 20%
2126 for 30%
and to lose a pound it would be between 1463 and 1626
a pound and a half 1213 and and 1376

Which seems about right to me...
The age penalty really bites.... sorry... it doesn't seem so bad when you are young like you, but by 46, that is getting to be a penalty

No, not that I don't add wrong on occasion (although I'm an engineer so have a calculator handy). I just somehow spaced and submitted the thing mid thought. My DH calls me the absent minded professor... Not that I teach college anymore, but I did for a time.. actually taught statistics once...

Anyway, sorry to be the math geek! I still can't figure out how you got the higher numbers.... I guess I better keep up the exercise... I'm sure that with all the house work that you do, you rate at least 30%, just hauling all that laundry around should count for something!

Can you really count housework lol. My gosh I have the cleanest house this side of the Mississippi my family tells me lol. Ok so no self respecting piece of dirt would come into my house. Dirt jumps off peoples feet as the walk it my house and screams as it runs out the door. Or so my uncle says lol. I only use the 30% because I average 52 min of exercise ( walking videos ) a day, that doesn't include the upper body stuff I have started to do and just do what I call general things around the house. I have had to cut out one of the two walking videos for a week because of my knee so I am picking up more upper body workouts. This is great fun.

Shy, for someone your size heavy house cleaning burns about 300 calories an hour. So if you are doing a lot of house work, you might be burning more calories than you think. If you are walking an hour a day and cleaning an hour a day, you are at least moderately active.

Oh,this is good news, Barbara. Some days.....like yesterday......I know I am quite active, as I mudded drywall on the ceiling for 2 hours, did 6 loads of laundry (stairs), put paste wax on my kitchen table and chairs (I always forget how much work buffing it out is......), raked the front yard, and then o;f course general cleaning, or what I like to call pig sty control. Of course, everyday is not like yesterday.......but I spend at least one hour each day doing heavy housecleaing Thank you, Barbara
XOXO

Nicole, That makes me tired just reading it. Of course that is not being sedentary when you are up and moving like that! It is why so many women gain weight when they go back to work, as they didn't realize how much they moved around carting the laundry, cleaning the house, and physically lifting kids around , as I'm sure your youngest couple still like to be carried or otherwise lifted up here and there. Whereas I work sitting here typing and occasionally mouse clicking, and have a service come and clean my house. I might burn a calorie or two and form a few wrinkles glaring at the screen when what I programmed is not showing up correctly (I recently started coding web screens so it frequently didn't do what I thought it should). I think I need botox from frequent glaring.
