9/24/07 New Alli Thread

Here is the new thread, I will post more in a bit, I am SUPER busy but wanted to get it started....

Tammy 09-24-2007 01:04 PM

I copied this from the old thread since I just posted it this morning. Just wanted to update you, and for you to know how much I've missed you guys!!!!

Ladies, I have returned, and I hope I don't have anything else that will take me away! My husband came home late Friday afternoon, and it has been hectic around here. I've tried to nap when he does because I am totally pooed out. Trying to make sure he doesn't overdo things. We took a short walk yesterday, and I mean short! He is on oxygen, and we are hoping he won't have to be on it long. From mid-August until last week one day, he gained almost 50 pounds of fluids. His belly is looking much better. He has lost 10 pounds since he weighed here Sat. morning and when he weighed today. I know our scales are low, but we don't care about the right weight right now for him. We just know he is down 10 pounds. We're monitoring his BP, pulse, and sugar levels pretty close to report to the doctor when we go. We go to the family doctor the end of this week and to 2 specialists next week.

During his 2 weeks in the hospital, I gained 3 pounds. As of this morning, those are gone, and I am back to journaling now that I'm home more. It helps. Alli is my friend again too. lol

I missed chatting with you all. I've skimmed the posts, but I won't try to respond to all of them. You guys talk alot!!!! Just know that I wish you all the best, and we CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Daimere 09-24-2007 01:10 PM

Lol. I know this weekend I was like, I'm going to wait till the new thread starts to post. I make my post and voila y'all start a new thread. That's my luck.

StillTryin 09-24-2007 01:18 PM

OK things have setteled a little.

Tammy-So glad hubby is home again, that is GREAT!!! I am also glad your 3lbs have vacated....wonderful.

I see we have several new people starting to post, WELCOME!!!!!

As for me, still about the same, not gaining but not losing either....I think I am started to adjust to the new dose of the meds, that will help. I had to take my oldest to the hospital yesterday with a TERRIBLE asthma attack. The bad thing is that she DOESNT have asthma...or at least never did!!! She just got released about 30 minutes ago and is now heading to school. I am back at work and trying to catch up on everything. Like I said I see we have some new people posting...that is great. I hope all is going good for everyone!

Brightside 09-24-2007 04:27 PM

Hi Everyone,
I've returned from California! I actually lost a couple of pounds while I was gone - I think it's 'cuz I didn't eat sugar. No desserts at my mom's house or my sister's house. All they had was ice cream which wasn't appealing. I had a piece of cake at the wedding. I didn't take Alli while I was gone, even though I did bring it with me.

I've been working on readjusting to the 3 hour time change. It was an ok trip all in all, but I'm so happy to be home. This was my first trip back to California in 8 years. I can honestly say that I have no desire to move back. For a long time, forever really, I always thought if there was a chance I'd move back but there's just too many people, it's too expensive, the roads are too crowded, there's too much smog. So, like Dorothy, I'll just say there's no place like home! And home is Michigan!

Time to get myself together and start journalling and tomorrow I will eat low-fat and by Wednesday I hope to be taking alli again.

Tammy- I need to go back and read the old thread to hear about your husband. But glad to hear he's back home!!

Taylormomto6 09-25-2007 01:19 AM

Hi Ladies

My name is Cindy and I've been on Alli since September 1st, although I started low fat August 28. I have a bunch of weight to lose and I'm hoping I've found the way to get it done with Alli.

I'm married to a tiny man who never complains about my weight, but he just doesn't understand. Of course, he's a skinny person with a healthy relationship with food:^: I'm 44 and have 6 kids, 3 are grown though. I also am a grandmother of 2 with one more due in November.

I have been on every diet out there, give or take. I've had some temporary success (lost 77 lbs on Atkins once), but I've always ended up back where I started. This time is different. With Alli, I am just changing my regular foods to low/non fat versions, eating more fruits and veggies and carefully watching portions. I incorporate the frozen low fat meals in when I want.

I've done very well I guess because I've not had any TEs:o Boy, fear of TE's will sure keep ya on the low fat band wagon.

Anyway, it's so nice to find you all. I've been looking for a good Alli Forum for weeks. The myalli site is just not suitable.

Hope you all don't mind if I join you!!

Cindy T

Tammy 09-25-2007 05:29 AM

Still, how scary for you and your daughter with the asthma attack! Let us know how things are going. I agree it is nice to see some new people on here!! More support for everyone.

Bright, welcome back!!! I've never been to California. My hubby was stationed there in the Marines, and I'm sure things have changed tremendously since he was there. I couldn't see myself living there. I could see myself living in Michigan though. lol Bob and I talked before he went to the hospital that we should just make a weekend trip up there, but now I don't think we'll be able to.

Cindy, welcome!!!!!! I'm with you on having quite a bit to lose. Don't let my tracker deceive you. I am doing it in 10 pound increments. I know that Alli isn't a miracle cure, but it helps me stay accountable. I started mid-July on Alli, and we took a trip to Florida right after I started which was a lot of eating out of course. I've lost 12 pounds with a recent gain of 3 while my hubby was in the hospital. Ice cream stress eating did me in!! I have lost those 3, so I'm back to 12. I know there are many who have lost more in less time, but I am satisfied. I know that at my age (52), it isn't going to come off as easy. I also know that I don't get in as much exercise as I should. I am trying to change that. I have to agree with you about the myalli site. Too confusing to find where I've posted before. This is soooooooooooooo much better. Glad that you found us!!!

Beck1Beck 09-25-2007 07:38 AM

Morning ALL!!!

Well then, ain't we just the cat's pajamas? (Never really knew what that meant, but Granny used to say it when we'd done something good, heheh)

Glad to see everyone's back up and running.
I struggled this weekend with the first cold of the season, so of course I had to have chicken noodle soup and crackers and pretty much all the so-called comfort foods. Got no exercise at all, unless you count stumbling from the bed to the couch. Generally did everything I know better than to do.

But the good news is, my weigh-in this morning has me holding steady. I was sure I'd added a pound or two, but it looks like I dodged the bullet this time.

Got back on track yesterday, so lets see what happens at next week's weigh-in.

Todays Words To Live By:

"Life is what happens while we are busy making plans."

Taylormomto6 09-25-2007 11:30 AM

Tammy- We all lose at our own pace. If I've learned anything in my diet experience, its that Im not in a hurry. Steady weight loss is my target. Making heathy choices is my target as well. Of course, I'd love to wake up skinny tomorrow, but its just not going to happen:) I also need to make exercise a target. I do manage a mile walk 3-4 days a week, but I also use any excuse I can to not make it 7 days a week, lol. You're doing a great job!!

Beck- sorry you were sick, its difficult to stick to plan when you're not feeling well. Great job getting back on track!!

Today is my official myalli weigh in day, I'm down 2 lbs. this week for a 14 lb. total loss. I'm very happy with that. If I could lose 2 lbs a week, steadily, I'd be thrilled. I'm not sure that will happen in the long term. I'm busy convincing myself that if the weight loss slows (or when it does), I am going to start upping exercise. This takes a lot of convincing for me, so I'm rolling it around in my every day:D

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Cindy T

StillTryin 09-25-2007 12:04 PM

Cindy, welcome and good luck! 2lbs is GREAT!

Beck, the cold and flu season is coming! :( Remember to take your vitamins!!

My daughter is doing better, I did have to cancel her allergist appointment since they have her on so many meds right now, there is no point in trying to see what she is allergic to.

I am doing ok! Nothing spectacular. I have noticed that I am retaining water like CRAZY!!! I feel miserable, but it will pass I am sure.

Bev 09-25-2007 03:27 PM

Hi everyone,

well I have been lurking around the thread for days so I finally decided to post. I really need to get my eatting under control. My weight seems to go up and down. I want to get it down and stay that way.

Taylormomto6 09-25-2007 03:28 PM

Stilltryin- Sometimes its just harder than others. Life gets complicated and the best we can do is hang in there. Just keep hanging on, drink some extra water (it'll take more with it when leaves). Hope you are feeling better soon.

Cindy T

Taylormomto6 09-25-2007 04:08 PM

I know all of us are doing different eating plans, but I have a question....How hard are each of you trying to reach your myalli targets?

They say I'm to strive for 1800 calories per day and 19 grams of fat per meal. When I'm cooking, it doesn't seem to be a problem, but when I'm eating the frozen meals (Smart ones, Healthy Choice) I'm way under. Sometimes I add stuff to it to up the calories and fats, but I'm wondering if it necessary.

Anyway, I'm just interested to know how you all are doing it.

I have read the posts on the myalli site on this issue.

Cindy T

Daimere 09-26-2007 10:14 AM

Do you take alli with every meal? My mom mentions I should need to take it all the time, especially if I'm eating right. But I don't know. I still like how alli can help me control myself.

Taylormomto6 09-26-2007 01:52 PM

I take it with any meal that has over 5 grams of fat. They say it doesn't help if the meal is lower than that.

What I don't understand is....why do they say that at all. It seems to me that they should instead be advising us not to eat meals that low, because it would be far below "their" targets for us.

Who here eats breakfast every day? Do you force it, or does it just come natually to you? I'm just curious because they all say breakfast is very important and I'm trying to get in the habit, but I do have to force it. If I get busy though, sometimes its still 10:00 or 10:30 before I eat. That is still something I need to work on.

Hi Cindy, welcome to the Alli thread - WOW 6 kids and you are so young! I'm 42 with 1 and sometimes that's too much to handle :D

Good job maintaining, Beck. That is really the key to success, not gaining weight back.

I have been averaging 2 - 2.5lbs a week since July on Alli, before that it was 1.50 - 2 a week. So Alli is helping me quite a bit to stay on track.

What's up with the water? are you having lots of sodium? I hate that, my fingers get big and my rings feel tight, but since I have been eating low salt I haven't had the problem.

Hi Bev! welcome to the Alli thread. Have you started Alli? how is it going for you?

Originally Posted by Taylormomto6:

I set my targets lower, I'm in a hurry!!

Hi Daimere, I don't take Alli with breakfast, but I take it with lunch (approx 5 - 7 grams) and dinner (approx 10 - 15 grams)

StillTryin 09-26-2007 04:16 PM

Yeah i dont know what is the water deal....it is annoying..but oh well. I dont think I am getting toooo much sodium, I have been watching it. I think it is the adjustment to the new meds. Who knows, I will get through it.

Shy Moment 09-26-2007 07:33 PM

Taylormom
That is one of the very reasons I haven't started taking the Alli yet, among other reasons. They tell me 1800 calories. I don't count calories but when I do check them to see how close I am. I am never over 1300. Fat they say something like 54 grams a day. I am never over 30.

I try to eat six meals a day. before breakfast and breakfast ( breakfast broken into two meals ) before lunch and lunch ( lunch broken into two meals ) before dinner and dinner ( broken into two meals ) and then some kind of snack. Most of the time before the before dinner meal I am so stuffed I don't know how to get another bite in me.

Daimere 09-26-2007 08:08 PM

I've had to force myself to eat breakfast. I even have to wake up earlier one the days I could sleep in so I can get it in. But I know it's good for me and I'm starting to really enjoy eating breakfast now.

got2gethealthy 09-26-2007 10:01 PM

gosh i have missed you guys ! i kept checking but i couldnt find the new thread! i was worried about you all. :o the dr has me off work until dec 1. then i start looking for a new job. i am hoping to lose at least 10 pounds by then. a few of my friends work at disneyland anaheim and want me to join them. so we shall see..sue

Shy Moment 09-27-2007 10:22 AM

Daimere
I was never a breakfast person no matter what time I got up. I have found I need to eat smaller portions and eat more times a day. Eating breakfast has really helped get the food into me that I need. I still don't eat enough.

dcapulet 09-27-2007 10:31 AM

hey cats and gators!

hope everyone's having a great day/week!

StillTryin 09-27-2007 11:20 AM

well my week is going "okay". Nothing major happening. I had a good day yesterday and I am aiming for another. At this point I am taking things ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!!

ThinGirl in FatBody 09-27-2007 11:24 AM

I've been sitting day dreaming about food all morning, somebody please slap some sense into me... :(

I keep picturing toasted bagels with melting butter AND cream cheese and potato chips and dip. What the heck is wrong with me today? :dizzy::dizzy::dizzy:

Beck1Beck 09-27-2007 01:38 PM

Welcome to Beckie's World

Hey, all!!

Daimere: I eat breakfast, (Special K with almonds and 2% milk). I don't take a pill with breakfast (not enough fat) but do take one with lunch and dinner, no matter what we're having.
Thin: Thanks for the pat on the back.
Got2: Make sure you don't let weight loss interfere with whatever the Doctor's got you out of work for. They always told me that healing requires the right vitamins and proteins.
Thin: Try picturing those greasy bagels superglued to your butt.
Still: I know how you feel--when I start holding water, I'm absolutely miserable. I never understood how drinking more water could help me to loose more water. Oh well, welcome to Beckie's world.

Keep on Keeping On:

Here's some more of my favorite WORDS TO LIVE BY:

got2gethealthy 09-27-2007 01:52 PM

beck i loved the picture in my mind of bagels stuck on the butt. mine goes to my hips:D i eat breakfast too. most days just yoghurt and toast, sometimes eggs and veggies. i still have not hit the high calorie goal of 1800 or the fat grms of 19 per meal. i take alli anyway 3 times a day. i am having a high stress day today, and crawling out of my skin with nerves. hid the high cal junk my husband eats and going for a walk..:(

Shy Moment 09-27-2007 02:48 PM

Thin
Now a toasted bagel is only 1 gram of fat ( I eat the mini ones ) and a Tbs of cream cheese ( the whipped kind ) is only 3 grams of fat. Nothing wrong with that. Nice breakfast along with a banana, small glass 4 oz of orange juice and a bowl of grape nuts 1/2 cup cereal with 1/2 cup 2% milk:) That is about what I eat for the before breakfast and breakfast meal. That is two of my six meals a day.

Pre Breakfast
Bagel ( 1 mini ) Fat = 1 Calories = 130
Cream Cheese ( Whipped Kind ) Fat = 3 Calories = 30
Orange Juice 4 oz Fat = 0 Calories = 55

Total Fat Pre Breakfast = 4
Total Calories Pre Breakfast = 215

Breakfast
Grape Nuts Cereal 1/2 Cup Fat = 1 Calories = 200
Banana Fat = 1/2 Calories = 100
1/2 Cup 2% Milk Fat = 2 1/2 Calories = 65

Total Fat Breakfast = 4
Total Calories Breakfast = 365

Total Morning Meals
Fat = 8
Calories = 580

That is if I get all the food eaten I am suppose to eat by 10 am lol.

Taylormomto6 09-27-2007 03:26 PM

I eat the mini bagels too. I eat them with a meal to add some calories and fat (I just had a Healthy Choice Steamers Basil Chicken, very good, that was very low in both, added a mini bagel with onion flavored cream cheese).

I eat them for a snack with FF or Light Stawberry flavored cream cheese. I have 5 kinds of cream cheese in fridge, lol, some reg, some light, some FF depending on my needs:dizzy: I think its a great way to get closer to the targets.

Now if I could just find whole wheat bagels, I'd feel a lil better about them.

Cindy T

Shy Moment 09-27-2007 03:31 PM

Cindy
Don't know if you have a Giant Eagle around you. They sell the whole wheat bagels. I don't like the fat free or low fat cream cheeses but I have found the whipped is way lower in fat than the regular and tastes better than the low fat or fat free. I should get adventurous and try some of the other flavors. Have never tried any but the regular cream cheese.

Beck
Since there is only 1 gram of fat in a bagel. You don't have to worry about grease or fat or much of anything. It is a nice addition to the daily intake.

debalina 09-28-2007 04:23 PM

Still going strong!

Got on the scale today and I lost another 3 pounds! That totals 17 pounds lost since I started taking alli. I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but for a few weeks I was staying at 220 and 219. I was getting really frustrated because I've been watching what I eat and exercising 5 times a week. But all my hard work is paying off!

I know muscle weighs more than fat and I really wasn't worried because I went down a pants size. :carrot: I'm donating my size 18-20's next week!!!

I'm heading up to NJ this weekend to see the family. I plan on moving back the end of February. It's time to leave NC and head home. Since I separated from my husband, I really have no reason to be here. Plus jobs are really bad here. Too many plants are closing.

Well, everyone have a nice weekend!!!

Shy Moment 09-28-2007 05:27 PM

deb
Congrats on the weight loss. Hope you have a nice weekend.

Tammy 09-28-2007 08:09 PM

Beck, I'm like you and trying to get back on track. It isn't easy, is it?

Cindy, I agree about a steady weight loss. I want it faster though! LOL 14 total is great!! I'm the same with 1800 cal, and the 19 fat. I come close to those except for breakfast I rarely hit 5 fat grams. I do eat breakfast everyday though.

Welcome Bev!!

Debaline, 17 total is wonderful!

I just bought some Thomas's mini-bagels at Wal Mart. They are strawberry, and they are delicious. I don't put anything on them at all.

My weigh in was yesterday, and I have now lost 13.

Now I am going to whine a bit. Just don't hit me. I honestly think that I was getting more rest when hubby was in the hospital. Since he's home, I still have laundry to do of course, but now there is more. I am cooking, and when I was here by myself, I was just grabbing things. My chiro talked today about how tight my middle back was today and it hasn't been at all. She feels like it's stress. We sat and talked a little bit about everything that's going on, and of course, I cried.

Tomorrow I'm taking the dog to the doggy hotel, hubby will be at home, and I'm going to see out son at college for family weekend. I'll go to the football game, and then he and I will get together afterwards for dinner. One of hubby's friends is planning to come and spend part of that time with him so I don't have to feel like I have to rush back. Hubby is capable of doing more than he was, BUT I don't want him getting totally worn out more than he is.

I feel really guilty because there were a few times that I almost wished he was still at the hospital! I know things will keep getting better, and it will be easier when he isn't on the oxygen. Thanks for letting me vent a little ladies!

I hope you all have a great Alli weekend!

Shy Moment 09-28-2007 08:11 PM

That is one of the things we are here for, to rant. We all understand. The worry has finaly caught up with you. It effects the body. You need some relax time. Yes, sometimes when they are home it is more work than when they aren't lol.

I know you are worried about him, don't want him to do to much. Please, take care of yourself. You are no good to him if you are all worn out and not feeling well.

Congrats on the weight loss.

Great work!! keep it up!

I totally understand your vent, looking after your hubby is a lot of work, sometimes it's hard enough to look after ourselves! It's going to get better soon. :)

You guys would have been so proud of me today. I had to leave work early to take my daughter to the doctors. After her appointment we stopped by the mall to get a few things, I hadn't eaten since breakfast and I thought about going into a restaurant for lunch, I was so close to going in - but at the last moment (and at the door) decided nope, we're going home. I had my regular healthy meal of grilled chicken, veggies and brown rice. Then I did an hour of cardio..

Tonight we had a party to go to, there was TONS of food, spring rolls, deep fried lobster, roti, wraps, meatballs, rack of lamb, lasagna, tarts, cakes, squares.... and I had.......

a tea with sweetener, a water & a coffee with sweetener

... not one morsel of food passed my lips :carrot:

It was pretty tough, everywhere I looked people were eating, a couple of times the room was just spinning, I swear everyone was chewing! I kept thinking about my trip, and the clothes I want to buy before I go and the formal nights where I want to look really nice. That kept me from devouring the cheesecake.

Tomorrow night I have a dinner at my husband's club, I talked to the food & beverage manager today, they are doing a special low fat/no salt dinner for me and a fruit plate for dessert. I am trying so hard to do as well as I can, only 7 1/2 weeks until our trip. The closer I get to this trip, the stronger I am becoming - I don't think I've ever wanted it as bad as I do now - I'm doing everything in my power to make use of this time to achieve my Nov 19 goal. (150)

Shy Moment 09-29-2007 08:17 AM

Thin
You talked about how it seemed everywhere you looked someone was eating lol. You know something I have noticed. There are food places everywhere. I never noticed that before lol. I never was one to eat out much, would rather know food came from my clean kitchen. Still, I never noticed how many places there are to eat outside of the home. Even in my little town we have a MC Donald's and a subway, 2 pizza/chicken shops and you can get food at the gas stations. Yuck, no wonder it is so hard for some people to make good food choices.

Will Alli be my friend?

Hello Ladies! I have a question about Alli. I have struggled with losing weight, and have yo yo dieted for so many years to the point where my body is soooo reluctant to lose any weight. I weigh 134 lbs (down from 164) and I really just want to get these last ten or so pounds off. Although the chart on the back of Alli said that I wasn't in the required weight range to take it, I bought it anyway. My main question is why do they not recommend Alli for someone who wants to lose ten pounds? Do they expect you to stop taking Alli once you hit the lowest minimum weight in your height range? I don't get it, I don't want to hurt myself, but I'd much rather take something like this than that other stuff that makes me jittery. Anyone else in here taking the product that is under the weight recommended?

bobbigene 09-29-2007 10:56 AM

Good morning all - I am officially on vacation for the next two weeks! Yahoo! Have lots of stuff planned that should help me stay on track - at least in the exercise department. Surely trimming hedges, climbing up ladders and the like should count as exercise. Hope everyone is doing well!

StillTryin 09-29-2007 11:50 AM

Well it is nice to see that several new people have joined us here. And that several "oldies"(just kidding ladies) are doing so very well.

I am just kinda "here" still. Not much new. I am at work today until noon and then I have to go shopping with my kids a little. (Thats always a blast)

Well I am happy everyone is checking in and moving right along! Keep up the good work. I am sorry I am absent more lately. I have been crazy busy! As some of you know I am in the market for a new job. I am in Sales right now but I am an Elementary School Teacher by trade. I had applied at a few places and came VERY, VERY close to being offered a VERY good job. But that didnt happen. So I have been looking (quietly). Well I posted my resume on a couple of Job boards (monster, career builder) and last week I got a call from the HR man at a MAJOR international Finance company. He said he found my resume and wanted to know if I would be interested in a position with the company. I said I would be interested in learning MORE about the position and the company. So he forwarded my resume to the local manager and she contacted me to schedule and interview...could be interesting! Then this morning when I got to work I got an email from a (fairly close) school district asking if I would be still interested in a teaching position, as they have one available now. So I emailed them back saying I would be. And now I just found out that a "city" (government) job is going to be available here soon, the gal just gave her 2 weeks notice (out of the blue)...so I will be checking into that one too.

Boy I hope with all this action, something comes of it!!!! Wish me luck!

Hi all.

I am Jenn. Been a member here (one who comes and goes frequently) for a while. I was first on South Beach. Then Weight Watchers. Then Fat Smash. I originally lost 40 pounds with diet and exercise. Then I lost another 20. I've gained 45 back.

I am unhappy and need to do something about it. This week, I started eating lower calorie/smaller portion/low fat diet. I start Alli itself on Monday.

I am about 2.5 weeks away from turning 30. I don't want to be 31 and at this weight. I hope to lose 60 pounds in a year but more importantly, eat well again and exercise. I am dealing with an unsuccessful foot surgery so I am slowly getting back into the swing of things.

Thanks for letting me vent a bit and intro myself!
