  • I agree, that is what keeps us eating correctly, or at least more correctly than before taking Alli. Poor Woman!!! How utterly imbarassing

Ravisa, I know what you mean about your son, mine sounds about the same. He is heavy there is no denying it. I feel bad for him, I want him to see me making better choices but sometimes it doesnt matter, he likes to EAT!!!

My daughters are both average height/weight and eat whatever. I hope my sone comes around when puberty hits. I have seen that already with boys, they will be a little heavy then BAM puberty hits and they are thin and tall! (PRAYS)!
  • Quote: Dcapulet- that was pretty gross, but it's stories like that that will keep me on the straight and narrow!
    Exactly.
  • Question regarding Calorie Limits
Quote: I was thinking about "assplosions" and wanted to share.. although it's yucky.

I was in K-Mart about an hour ago, and went in to use the ladies room. There was a woman in there, furiously washing her hands. I went into the stall, and saw what could have only been a TE, cause i have never seen anything else like it. She looked so embarassed; I wanted to tell her that I had been there before, but she booked out of the ladies room.

That keeps me eating well, cause I wouldn't want that to happen to me!
    Hmmm...
This made me chuckle. I don't know why.
TE...I have it happen a lot less. But, ironically, if you look at my fitday...
I really am not going over on fat (still having calorie issues...ie 1800 goal avg eating 2100 cals) but I will have TE quite often.

I think it is the kind of fat you eat too.
I love peanut butter. I have heard that some qualities of Peanut butter will actually assist your metabolism. But, the kind of fats give me TE for 2 days...
afterwards. But, I will take that and have the Peanut butter occasionally.
I don't do blowouts ever, just the oil in the water of the toilet.

The Alli keeps me honest (for fear) but I wish it would also absorb some of the regular calories too. My body just seems to want 2200 calories per day.
Well, I guess I could do 2000 if I was more disciplined at night.

Anyone else challenged to keep at the calorie level suggested in the Alli Plan...
Mine is 1800 calories and 59 grams of fat...19 per meal.
I usually average 42 grams of fat per day with 2200 calories...Maybe average of 11 to 15 grams of fat per meal.

    That makes three of us!

I left my lunch at home this morning ( by accident because I was in a hurry) so i could get my car to the shop to be worked on today. A coworker was nice enough to bring me lunch. But she brought me the fried chicken plate instead of the baked I picked at it and ate a few bites but left most of it on the plate cause I don't want that to happen to me!
  • Another walk with my son this morning. We were both pouring sweat when we got home. I guess that's good!

Dinner out tonight at a pizza place with my mom (thin), dad (thin), sister-in-law (average), brother (average), and my kids. Not as if pizza isn't complicated enough! I guess I'll hit the salad bar and have a little slice of veggie.

But I'll be good because I don't want the dreaded TE! And tomorrow is WI for me! Yikes, I'm scared!
  • Katallan, I forgot my lunch this morning too, i left in a hurry because hubby said he would drop off my DD to the sitter so I could enjoy a cup of coffee at the cafe with some friends, I havnt been able to do that in over a month! So that was nice, but then at lunch time I had to improvise. I went to the cafe and had a bowl of soup and a turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomatoe, no mayo or mustard or even cheese!!!

Ravisa, I walk a couple times a day, I do not take "breaks" or lunch at work, since I work in an office and usually am the only one here to get the phones during those times...so usually 2-3 times a day I will go for a walk around town, usually 6-8 blocks each way so that is 12-16 blocks per trip. Every little bit helps. I mean I cant walk fast enough to start sweating since I have to go back to work, but at least I am out moving around and not sittin behind my computer all day!
  • First TE...ick!
Well, it finally happened, my first TE. Yuck, ick and then some! Last night I made a beer can chicken on the grill. I thought I did ok...I've been known to eat the skin from the whole chicken before it gets to the table...but last night I had 2 wings and figured I had my crunchy-skin fix. I didn't think to count the extra fat grams in a slice of breast meat. Add to that the fat grams in my fish oil & flax seed oil capsules and you guessed it. I knew I was in trouble when I was getting dressed for work this morning and my stomach was making funny noises. At work every time I felt even the slightest twinge, gas, whatever, I went to the bathroom. I must've gone 3 times an hour. For those who have never seen the orange oil, it's gross!! TMI: thank goodness the toilets at work power flush - at home the oil stuck to the sides of the toilet! DISGUSTING! About all I can say from this experience: thank goodness I didn't have an "assplosion" and I guess it's comforting to know that Alli is working but this is not something I want to experience again anytime soon! I wonder how long this will last? For lunch I had brown rice w/1 tbsp. shredded parmesan and mixed it w/ 1 cup of steamed spinach. I don't know what to do about dinner, I'm sort of afraid to put anyting in my mouth!
  • I didn't get the treatment effects (what clever guy in Alli's marketing department came up with that one?!?!) for a few days but have had the typical ones from time to time when I overdo it. Mostly I've just noticed more of an "urgency" to get to the bathroom but I've been sticking to the plan. I think since Alli works in your digestive track it's going to move everything along a bit faster. Haven't had the dreaded orange oil in about a week. As gross as it is, when I see that I know I'm not doing something right and it does help me to get back on track.

    Good luck, everyone!

    Ann
  • If you are up to some math, here's a formula to figure out how many calories per day it takes to maintain your weight. Let's say you are 30 years old, a couch potato, 65 inches tall and weigh 200 pounds. The formula goes like so:

    couch potato - enter 1
low activity (30-90 min per day brisk activity) - enter 1.14
active (1.5-3.5 hours a day brisk activity)- enter 1.27
very active (more than 3.5 hours a day brisk activity) - enter 1.45
    A) Activity Level 1
    B) Height in inches x 16.78 = 1090.7
    C) Weightt x 4.95 = 990
    D) Age x 7.31 = 219.3
    E) B + C = 2080.7
    F) A x E = 2080.7
    G) 387 - D = 167.7
    H) G + F = 2248.4calories to maintain current weight

Using the number of calories needed to maintain your current weight you can then figure out better how much you need to cut back to lose weight. I figured out that I needed about 2200 if I wanted to maintain my weight so I cut it back to 1800 per day. I think if you eat 500 calories per day less, you can lose 1 pound a week. At least that's what my research said. That's about how it has worked for me.

    A) Activity Level 1
    B) Height in inches 68 x 16.78 = 1141.04
    C) Weightt260 x 4.95 = 1287
    D) Age 36 x 7.31 = 263.16
    E) B + C = 2428.04
    F) A x E = 2429.04
    G) 387 - D = 124
    H) G + F = 2553.04calories to maintain current weight

    2553.04 - 500 + 2000 calories for 1 lb per week

1800 calorie goal with Alli = 753 cal deficit
x by 7 is 5271 calories per week
divide by 3500 for calories in lb

1800 cals per day is 1.5 lbs per week
2000 cals per week for 1 lb loss per week
If I add 500 calories of activity per day on average...
    another pound to either total.
    Plus,
You could take your total fat calories per week and
minus 25% and see how much of a pound was the
Oil in the Toi Toi... Yuck! LOL

    I love numbers too...
Either way, I don't know that my body works like
    a calculator...That is why I don't own a scale.
I just keep looking in the mirror for the changes
and borrowing the brookstone scale at the mall!

I like that example for figuring the calories though.
It is good for maintenance phase...or going on
    a trip phase too!
    Thanks for sharing.
I am posting it to my blog too.
  • This is too early to be doing all of that math!! BUT, I did it. To maintain what I weigh, I need 2306.22 calories. I've been trying to do 1800 which should be giving me a loss, right? I started the lowfat stuff before I started Alli, and I lost 4 pounds right away. water weight I'm sure. Since starting Alli, I"ve gained 2 pounds of that 4. I've been getting in my walking almost everyday, but I guess I really need to start logging my foods somewhere to see what I'm really doing instead of depending on my own calculations. It's TOM soon, so I'm sure that is part of not losing right now.

We just returned from a whirlwind trip to visit my husband's brother who lives in Florida. The brother is very ill, so we thought we should go visit while we could. A week of eating out probably didn't help any either. I tried to make good choices, but you know how that goes. I did take the Alli with me, and took it when I remembered. lol

I haven't had any nasty TE, which is a good thing. I've enjoyed reading the posts on all of your successes!! I hope that I'll be able to post some too someday soon!!!

NRyker - do you think eating more protein would keep you satisfied longer?

Bobbijean- I did my calculation too...I need to eat between 1600-1700 to lose weight. Thanks for sharing!

I really took it easy on food last night...I made some whole grain spaghetti with lean ground turkey in a low-fat marinara sauce. It was yummy, satisfying and low fat! I also steamed some swiss chard and poured on some soy sauce (a friend recommended it). I've been trying to add some "leafy greens" to my eating and I find that mustard greens, collards, etc. all have a bitter taste. The red swiss chard was yummy and even my kids liked it (I think all they tasted was the soy sauce)!
  • good morning cats and gators!

I actually got myself up at 6:30 and went to the gym today! That's a first time in a LOOOOONG time for me.

Also, last night, I ate 1 slice of pizza. Another first. Usually, it's 2, especially when I buy two. Last night, there were two, but I only ate one! For a COA like me, that's huge!!

I hope everyone has a great day, and that the weather doesn't get too hot! 96 today in the Big Apple today!
  • So I'm beginning to think that Alli just doesnt work on me. It doesnt matter what I eat I NEVER get TEs. Now my whole excitement over this pill was that it kept me on the straight and narrow so that I wouldnt get TEs. But I dont get them...EVER! I've tested it WAY too many times. I pay no consequences for my actions, so I'm not getting that little boost of willpower and therefore cant justify continueing to pay for the pills. I was thinking of trying to take 2 at a time rather than the 1...but thats double the cost...if it worked, if I had got TEs and had to pay consequenses if I stray it would be worth it though. Very frustrating, I wish it even just worked mentally!
  • That is a neat calculation. I need to eat 2075 calories per day to maintain and say 1500 per day to lose....cool!
