Default Vacation in Branson

Hi all,

I am just a lurker, but am a LAWL member. My family is going on vacation to Branson, Missouri for 10 days this Friday and was wondering if anyone is from Missouri or has been there and could recommend any fun places to go. My boys are 11 and 14. They have been online and looked at many places, but sometimes it's nice to talk to people who have been there or live there. We've bought tickets to see the Beach Boys, but that's about all we've done in advance. Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you looked at fodors.com. I use that site to plan all my vacations. You do not necessarily have to register. Click on Talk and then on the left side you will see the forum, click on US; fill in the blank, in your case -Branson and there you go. Good luck

Nessa,

Thanks, my MIL went last year and she also mentioned that she thought my boys would like the Titanic.

Lynn...I will check out that site too.

Thank you both for the info.

Hi Lolene,
I live in St. Louis, but am not originally from MO. I have not been to Branson, but I wanted to warn you that it is HOT HOT HOT here. It is very humid also. The reason I am mentioning this is only because my cousins from Wisconsin were here this weekend, and they were melting. They planned entire days of outdoor activities, and it made for some long sweaty days. So, if I were you, I would make sure to plan your days with indoor activities for part of the day, especially the afternoons. Water parks are good also, for the kids. And, it is different here as there are no Great Lakes or the Ocean......it does not cool down much at night. Sometimes it does, but 5:00 p.m. is often the hottest time of the day. When I first moved here 3 years ago, I was in shock because it was still in the mid 80's at 10:00 pm. I lived a few miles from Lake Michigan in Wisconsin, and if there was an east wind, it was very cool and breezy. That is not an option here....LOL.

I have not yet visited Branson, but my Aunt from WI has a time share there, and she goes every year. She loves country music, and goes to as many shows as she can. She loves it there

Have a great time on your vacation!!!

Thanks Nicole,

That's good to know when packing clothes. I am in Upstate New York and we are still wearing jackets or sweaters on some nights. Has been down to 50 at night.

We are staying at a Westgate Resort. We stayed at one in Florida 2 years ago, and it was nice. We are hoping to take in some shows along with some parks of course, so hopefully we will survive. Thanks for the heads up.

We took a road trip there about two years ago because DH and his brother wanted to go golfing. We just drove until all the snow was gone and we wound up in Brandon! We stayed at Stonebridge Resort, which was very nice. The highlight of your trip was taking a tour of the Stone Hill Winery. The tour itself wasn’t anything great, but our tour guide (his name was Liberty) was absolutely hilarious. We’re pretty certain he was drunk while he was giving the tour! We also went to Polly Parton’s Dixie Stampede dinner show. It was good, but if you go there bring silverware because you have to eat with your hands!! Also we enjoyed Dick’s Nickel and Dime store, there was a lot of nostalgic stuff there. My sister-in-law and I joke that we’d like to go back to Branson just to go to Dick’s Nickel and Dime. Other than that, we really weren’t into the country shows and the whole town seemed to shut down about 10 p.m. We were “kid free” for the weekend so we looked hard for a club or bar that didn’t involve sitting through a show but we didn’t have any luck and even some of the shows didn't serve alcohol. There seemed to be a lot for kids to do. Every other block seemed to have a go-cart race or miniature putt-putt on it so the kids should have plenty to choose from!

Dawn.........if you want night life in Missouri..........come to St. Louis. I live in Party Central......LOL. After the regular clubs close.........you can always go to the Casinos......they party all night long
And........there are a ton of wineries here in Sunny St. Louis........some of them are in clusters, so that you can do a winery tour..........I have heard it is a good time.

I live a few hours away from Branson. We go about once a year to go shopping. They have 3 outlet malls. I have also heard good things about the Titanic museum but haven't gone yet. I also have not been to Silver Dollar City, but hear good things about that too. I'm all about the shopping!!!
